Abstract Several unique characteristics of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as distributed deployment and limited storage, make it challenging for standard centralized access control systems to enable access control in today’s large-scale IoT ecosystem. To solve these challenges, this study presents an IoT access control system called Ether-IoT based on the Ethereum Blockchain (BC) infrastructure with Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC). Access Contract (AC), Cache Contract (CC), Device Contract (DC), and Policy Contract (PC) are the four central smart contracts (SCs) that are included in the proposed system. CC offers a way to save user characteristics in a local cache system… More >

    Eric Yocam1, Ahmad Alomari2, Amjad Gawanmeh3,*, Wathiq Mansoor3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.2, pp. 3091-3110, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032826

Abstract A person’s privacy has become a growing concern, given the nature of an expansive reliance on real-time video activities with video capture, stream, and storage. This paper presents an innovative system design based on a privacy-preserving model. The proposed system design is implemented by employing an enhanced capability that overcomes today’s single parameter-based access control protection mechanism for digital privacy preservation. The enhanced capability combines multiple access control parameters: facial expression, resource, environment, location, and time. The proposed system design demonstrated that a person’s facial expressions combined with a set of access control rules can achieve a person’s privacy-preserving preferences.… More >

Abstract IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi networks are prone to many denial of service (DoS) attacks due to vulnerabilities at the media access control (MAC) layer of the 802.11 protocol. Due to the data transmission nature of the wireless local area network (WLAN) through radio waves, its communication is exposed to the possibility of being attacked by illegitimate users. Moreover, the security design of the wireless structure is vulnerable to versatile attacks. For example, the attacker can imitate genuine features, rendering classification-based methods inaccurate in differentiating between real and false messages. Although many security standards have been proposed over the last decades to… More >

Full Duplex Media Access Control Protocol for Multihop Network Computing

    J. Avila Selvi Therase1,*, S. Allwin1, A. Ahilan2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 297-309, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.023515

Abstract Intelligent communication technologies beyond the network are proposed by using a new full-duplex protocol. The Media Access Control (MAC) is a data interaction network protocol, which outperforms the IEEE 802.15.4e. This research discusses the planning and execution of full-duplex (FD) pipeline MAC protocol for multihop wireless networks (MWN). The design uses a combination of Radio frequency and baseband methods to realize full-duplexing with smallest impact on cross layer functions. The execution and trial results specify that Pipeline Media Access Control (PiMAC) protocol considerably develops network implementation in terms of transmission protocol (TP) and transmission delay. The advantage of using FD-MAC… More >

Hybrid Cloud Security by Revocable KUNodes-Storage with Identity-Based Encryption

    S. Saravanakumar1,*, S. Chitra2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 985-996, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.019508

Abstract Cloud storage is a service involving cloud service providers providing storage space to customers. Cloud storage services have numerous advantages, including convenience, high computation, and capacity, thereby attracting users to outsource data in the cloud. However, users outsource data directly via cloud stage services that are unsafe when outsourcing data is sensitive for users. Therefore, cipher text-policy attribute-based encryption is a promising cryptographic solution in a cloud environment, and can be drawn up for access control by data owners (DO) to define access policy. Unfortunately, an outsourced architecture applied with attribute-based encryption introduces numerous challenges, including revocation. This issue is… More >

    Chao Li1, Fan Li1,2, Cheng Huang3, Lihua Yin1,*, Tianjie Luo1,2, Bin Wang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 4967-4982, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023496

Abstract Delegation mechanism in Internet of Things (IoT) allows users to share some of their permissions with others. Cloud-based delegation solutions require that only the user who has registered in the cloud can be delegated permissions. It is not convenient when a permission is delegated to a large number of temporarily users. Therefore, some works like CapBAC delegate permissions locally in an offline way. However, this is difficult to revoke and modify the offline delegated permissions. In this work, we propose a traceable capability-based access control approach (TCAC) that can revoke and modify permissions by tracking the trajectories of permissions delegation.… More >
