A Study on the Performances of Solar Air Collectors Having a Hemispherical Dimple on the Absorber Plate

    Shuilian Li1, Fan Zeng1, Xinli Wei2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.5, pp. 939-955, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.043614 - 07 June 2024

Abstract In order to increase the efficiency of solar air collectors, a new variant with a protrusion is proposed in this study, and its performances are analyzed from two points of view, namely, in terms of optics and thermodynamics aspects. By comparing and analyzing the light paths of the protrusion and the dimple, it can be concluded that when sunlight shines on the dimple, it is reflected and absorbed multiple times, whereas for the sunlight shining on the protrusion, there is no secondary reflection or absorption of light. When the lighting area and the properties of… More >

Numerical Investigation Thermal Performance of Solar Air Heater Using Different Angle V-Grooved of Corrugated Absorber Plate

Ayad S. Abedalh*, Sohaib Hassan Mohammed

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 227-243, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041777 - 30 November 2023

Abstract Solar energy, a renewable resource, can be harnessed instead of fossil fuels to generate power and heat. One effective method for converting solar energy into heat is through a solar air heating (SAH) system. The theoretical investigation focused on the thermal performance of various V-groove angles on a corrugated absorber plate. The researchers maintained the exterior dimensions and constraints of the absorber plate while increasing its surface area by using a corrugated absorber surface. For the simulation, three different V-groove angles were employed: 45°, 30°, and 15°. The temperature and air flow rate into the… More > Graphic Abstract

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.1

Abstract The aim of this work is to numerically investigate the effect of mounting winglet vortex generators on different positions in rectangular-duct-type air heaters. The two investigated positions were the absorber plate and the insulation plate, opposite to the absorber plate. Four shapes of winglet vortex generator, i.e. perforated rectangular winglet vortex generators (P-RWVG), rectangular winglet vortex generators (RWVG), perforated trapezoidal winglet vortex generators (P-TWVG) and trapezoidal winglet vortex generators (TWVG), were used. Results showed that heat-transfer capability would be better if the winglet vortex generators were mounted on the opposite insulation plate in the cases More >
