    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.8, pp. 1803-1810, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029516

Abstract Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies. Early diagnosis is the key to effective treatment of CRC. Since microRNAs (miRNAs) can be used as biomarkers of CRC, the objective of this work was to examine the effect of miR-520f-3p, which targets YAP1 (Yes-associated protein 1), on the ability of CRC cells to proliferate, invade, migrate, and undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Methods: A miR-520f-3p mimic was used to overexpress miR-520f-3p in HT29 cells. To establish the tumor-bearing mouse model, transfected HT29 cells were subcutaneously implanted into BALB/c-nu nude mice, and YAP1 and miR-520f-3p levels were determined using… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The Henon map forms one of the most-studied two-dimensional discrete-time dynamical systems that exhibits chaotic behavior. The Henon map takes a point in the plane and maps it to a new point . In this paper, a chaotic pulse generator based on the chaotic Henon map is proposed. It consists of a Henon map function subcircuit to realize the Henon map and another subcircuit to perform the iterative operation. The Henon map subcircuit comprises operational amplifiers, multipliers, delay elements and resistors, whereas, the iterative subcircuit is implemented with a simple design that comprises of an edge forming circuit followed by… More >

USAMA SHARIF AHMAD, KARTHIK SARAVANAN, HONG WAN*

    Oncology Research, Vol.29, No.6, pp. 377-391, 2021, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.026085

Abstract The Yes-associated protein (YAP) is a downstream effector of the Hippo pathway and acts as a key transcription co-factor to regulate cell migration, proliferation, and survival. The Hippo pathway is evolutionarily conserved and controls tissue growth and organ size. Dysregulation and heterogeneity of this pathway are found in cancers, including oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), leading to overexpression of YAP and its regulated proliferation machinery. The activity of YAP is associated with its nuclear expression and is negatively regulated by the Hippo kinase-mediated phosphorylation resulting in an induction of its cytoplasmic translocation. This review focuses on the role of YAP… More >

Neuro-Based Higher Order Sliding Mode Control for Perturbed Nonlinear Systems

    Ahmed M. Elmogy1,2,*, Wael M. Elawady2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 385-400, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032349

Abstract One of the great concerns when tackling nonlinear systems is how to design a robust controller that is able to deal with uncertainty. Many researchers have been working on developing such type of controllers. One of the most efficient techniques employed to develop such controllers is sliding mode control (SMC). However, the low order SMC suffers from chattering problem which harm the actuators of the control system and thus unsuitable to be used in many practical applications. In this paper, the drawbacks of low order traditional sliding mode control (FOTSMC) are resolved by presenting a novel adaptive radial basis function… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 33-39, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.023567

Abstract Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) is a downstream effector of the Hippo signaling pathway, and it is involved in tumorigenesis, tissue repair, growth, and development. In this review, the biological roles and the mechanisms of YAP1 in mediating stem cell fate decisions are discussed, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. In general, YAP1 promotes the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. It inhibits apoptosis by binding to the transcription factors, e.g., transcriptional enhanced associate domain (TEAD), Smad, runt-related transcription factor 1/2, p73, p63, and Erb84, to maintain tissue homeostasis. The translocalization of YAP1… More >
