    Shu Dai1,*, Bert Sweetman2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09687

Abstract Short-term wind process is normally assumed to be a Gaussian distribution, such as TurbSim, the widely used 3D wind field tool. Nowadays, newest researches indicate that non-Gaussian wind model is believed to be more accurate according to the field observation data. A new numerical method is proposed to generate non-Gaussian wind filed using translation process theory and spectral representation method. This study presents a comprehensive investigation on power production and blades fatigue damage of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) to the non-Gaussian wind field. The comparisons of Gaussian and non-Gaussian simulation results indicate that the non-Gaussian wind fields will cost… More >

    Hang Meng1,*, Jiaxing Wu1, Guangxing Wu1, Kai Long1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09685

Abstract Wind energy is one of the most promising renewable energies in the world. To generate more electricity, the wind turbines are getting larger and larger in recent decades [1]. With the wind turbine size growing, the length of the blade is getting slender. The large deflections of slender wind turbine blade will inevitably lead to geometric nonlinearities [2], e.g. nonlinear coupling between torsion and deflection, which complicates the governing equations of motion. To simplify the solution of the nonlinear equations, in the current research, a novel finite-difference method was proposed to solve the nonlinear equations of static beam model for… More >

Ana María Peco Chacón, Isaac Segovia Ramírez, Fausto Pedro García Márquez*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 2595-2608, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.037277

Abstract Maintenance operations have a critical influence on power generation by wind turbines (WT). Advanced algorithms must analyze large volume of data from condition monitoring systems (CMS) to determine the actual working conditions and avoid false alarms. This paper proposes different support vector machine (SVM) algorithms for the prediction and detection of false alarms. K-Fold cross-validation (CV) is applied to evaluate the classification reliability of these algorithms. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) data from an operating WT are applied to test the proposed approach. The results from the quadratic SVM showed an accuracy rate of 98.6%. Misclassifications from the confusion… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2661-2679, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.028059

Abstract Numerical simulations are conducted to improve the energy acquisition efficiency of H-type vertical axis wind turbines through the optimization of the related blade airfoil aerodynamic performance. The Bézier curve is initially used to fit the curve profile of a NACA2412 airfoil, and the moving asymptote algorithm is then exploited to optimize the design of the considered H-type vertical-axis wind-turbine blade airfoil for a certain attack angle. The results show that the maximum lift coefficient of the optimized airfoil is 8.33% higher than that of the original airfoil. The maximum lift-to-drag ratio of the optimized airfoil exceeds the maximum lift-to-drag ratio… More > Graphic Abstract

    Caifeng Wen1,2, Qiang Wang1,*, Yang Cao1, Liru Zhang1,2, Wenxin Wang3, Boxin Zhang1, Qian Du1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.7, pp. 1603-1619, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027074

Abstract To solve the problems of large losses and low productivity of permanent magnet synchronous generators used in wind power systems, the field-circuit coupling method is used to accurately solve the electromagnetic field and temperature field of the generator. The loss distribution of the motor is accurately obtained by considering the influence of external circuit characteristics on its internal physical field. By mapping the losses to the corresponding part of the three-dimensional finite element model of the motor, the temperature field is solved, and the global temperature distribution of the generator, considering the influence of end windings, is obtained. By changing… More >

Yuhan Liu, Yuqiao Zheng*, Zhuang Ma, Cang Wu

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.5, pp. 1223-1237, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.026329

Abstract An operating condition recognition approach of wind turbine spindle is proposed based on supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) normal data drive. Firstly, the SCADA raw data of wind turbine under full working conditions are cleaned and feature extracted. Then the spindle speed is employed as the output parameter, and the single and combined normal behavior model of the wind turbine spindle is constructed sequentially with the pre-processed data, with the evaluation indexes selected as the optimal model. Finally, calculating the spindle operation status index according to the sliding window principle, ascertaining the threshold value for identifying the abnormal spindle… More >

    Jin Wang1, Zhen Liu1,*, Ying Wang1, Caifeng Wen2,3, Jianwen Wang2,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.5, pp. 1149-1162, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025209

Abstract Analyzing the strain signal of wind turbine blade is the key to studying the load of wind turbine blade, so as to ensure the safe and stable operation of wind turbine in natural environment. The strain signal of the wind turbine blade under continuous crosswind state has typical non-stationary and unsteady characteristics. The strain signal contains a lot of noise, which makes the analysis error. Therefore, it is very important to denoise and extract features of measured signals before signal analysis. In this paper, the joint algorithm of ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and wavelet transform (WT) is used for… More >

    Ling Yuan1, Zhenggang Liu2,*, Li Li3, Ming Lin1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1129-1141, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.023538

Abstract The blades of large-scale wind turbines can obviously deform during operation, and such a deformation can affect the wind turbine’s output power to a certain extent. In order to shed some light on this phenomenon, for which limited information is available in the literature, a bidirectional fluid-structure interaction (FSI) numerical model is employed in this work. In particular, a 5 MW large-scale wind turbine designed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of the United States is considered as a testbed. The research results show that blades’ deformation can increase the wind turbine’s output power by 135 kW at rated working conditions.… More > Graphic Abstract
