Maximum Correntropy Criterion-Based UKF for Loosely Coupling INS and UWB in Indoor Localization

Yan Wang*, You Lu, Yuqing Zhou, Zhijian Zhao

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.3, pp. 2673-2703, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.046743

Abstract Indoor positioning is a key technology in today’s intelligent environments, and it plays a crucial role in many application areas. This paper proposed an unscented Kalman filter (UKF) based on the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) instead of the minimum mean square error criterion (MMSE). This innovative approach is applied to the loose coupling of the Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB). By introducing the maximum correntropy criterion, the MCCUKF algorithm dynamically adjusts the covariance matrices of the system noise and the measurement noise, thus enhancing its adaptability to diverse environmental localization requirements. Particularly in the presence of non-Gaussian noise,… More >

    Hang Yang1,2,3,*, Xunbo Li1, Witold Pedrycz2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 3039-3058, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.040412

Abstract Fire rescue challenges and solutions have evolved from straightforward plane rescue to encompass 3D space due to the rise of high-rise city buildings. Hence, this study facilitates a system with quick and simplified on-site launching and generates real-time location data, enabling fire rescuers to arrive at the intended spot faster and correctly for effective and precise rescue. Auto-positioning with step-by-step instructions is proposed when launching the locating system, while no extra measuring instrument like Total Station (TS) is needed. Real-time location tracking is provided via a 3D space real-time locating system (RTLS) constructed using Ultra-wide Bandwidth technology (UWB), which requires… More >

    Mahmoud A. Abdelghany1,4, Mohamed Fathy Abo Sree2, Arpan Desai3, Ahmed A. Ibrahim4,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.2, pp. 1999-2015, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.023643

Abstract A 4-port multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna exhibiting low mutual coupling and UWB performance is developed. The octagonal-shaped four-antenna elements are connected with a 50 Ω microstrip feed line that is arranged rotationally to achieve the orthogonal polarization for improving the MIMO system performance. The antenna has a wideband impedance bandwidth of 7.5 GHz with S11 < −10 dB from (103.44%) 3.5–11 GHz and inter-element isolation higher than 20 dB. Antenna validation is carried out by verifying the simulated and measured results after fabricating the antenna. The results in the form of omnidirectional radiation patterns, peak gain (≥4 dBi), and Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) (≤0.01) are extracted to validate… More > Graphic Abstract

    Muhammad Awais1, Shahid Bashir1, Awais Khan1,2, Muhammad Asif2, Nasim Ullah3,*, Hend I. Alkhammash4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 669-681, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.033939

Abstract This paper presents a compact Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna with WLAN band notch for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) applications. The antenna is designed on 0.8 mm thick low-cost FR-4 substrate having a compact size of 22 mm × 30 mm. The proposed antenna comprises of two monopole patches on the top layer of substrate while having a shared ground on its bottom layer. The mutual coupling between adjacent patches has been reduced by using a novel stub with shared ground structure. The stub consists of complementary rectangular slots that disturb the surface current direction and thus result in reducing mutual… More >

Relative-Position Estimation Based on Loosely Coupled UWB–IMU Fusion for Wearable IoT Devices

    A. S. M. Sharifuzzaman Sagar1, Taein Kim1, Soyoung Park1, Hee Seh Lee2, Hyung Seok Kim1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1941-1961, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035360

Abstract Relative positioning is one of the important techniques in collaborative robotics, autonomous vehicles, and virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) applications. Recently, ultra-wideband (UWB) has been utilized to calculate relative position as it does not require a line of sight compared to a camera to calculate the range between two objects with centimeter-level accuracy. However, the single UWB range measurement cannot provide the relative position and attitude of any device in three dimensions (3D) because of lacking bearing information. In this paper, we have proposed a UWB-IMU fusion-based relative position system to provide accurate relative position and attitude between wearable Internet of Things… More >

Zero-Index Metamaterial Superstrates UWB Antenna for Microwave Imaging Detection

Mohd Aminudin Jamlos1,*, Nur Amirah Othman1, Wan Azani Mustafa2, Mohd Faizal Jamlos3, Mohamad Nur Khairul Hafizi Rohani2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 277-292, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032840

Abstract Metamaterials (MTM) can enhance the properties of microwaves and also exceed some limitations of devices used in technical practice. Note that the antenna is the element for realizing a microwave imaging (MWI) system since it is where signal transmission and absorption occur. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna superstrates with MTM elements to ensure the signal transmitted from the antenna reaches the tumor and is absorbed by the same antenna. The lack of conventional head imaging techniques, for instance, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT)-scan, has been demonstrated in the paper focusing on the point of failure of these techniques for… More >

    Qingdong Wu1, Chenxi Li2, Tao Shen2, Yuan Xu2,3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.3, pp. 1761-1772, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020545

Abstract To provide stable and accurate position information of control points in a complex coastal environment, an adaptive iterated extended Kalman filter (AIEKF) for fixed-point positioning integrating global navigation satellite system, inertial navigation system, and ultra wide band (UWB) is proposed. In this method, the switched global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and UWB measurement are used as the measurement of the proposed filter. For the data fusion filter, the expectation-maximization (EM) based IEKF is used as the forward filter, then, the Rauch-Tung-Striebel smoother for IEKF filter’s result smoothing. Tests illustrate that the proposed AIEKF is able to provide an accurate estimation. More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 6169-6180, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026343

Abstract This paper presents the design of wideband and high gain Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) loaded antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless applications requiring high-gain. The antenna consists of a monopole and an FSS reflector. This modified antenna shows 50% miniaturization compared to a primary rectangular monopole, having a wide impedance bandwidth of 3.6–11.8 GHz. Afterward, an FSS is constructed by the combination of circular and square ring structures. The FSS array consisting of 8 × 8-unit cells are integrated with the antenna as… More >
