Qiang Lu, Zhe Liu, Zhuo Li, Jia Chen, Zhi Liao, Wan-rui Wu, Yuan-wei Li

    Oncology Research, Vol.24, No.5, pp. 305-313, 2016, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14666990347437

Abstract Tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a)-induced protein 8-like 2 (TNFAIP8L2, TIPE2) is involved in the invasion and metastasis of human tumors. However, the functional role of TIPE2 in prostate cancer remains unclear. In the present study, we explored the role of TIPE2 in prostate cancer and cancer progression including the molecular mechanism that drives TIPE2-mediated oncogenesis. Our results showed that TIPE2 was lowly expressed in human prostate cancer tissues and cell lines. In addition, restored TIPE2 obviously inhibits proliferation in prostate cancer cells. TIPE2 overexpression also suppresses the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and migration/invasion in prostate cancer More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 233-238, 2016, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14648701447977

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is associated with high recurrence rates of metastasis and death. miR-509 has been reported to be a tumor suppressor in many cancers, but its effect in TNBC has not yet been identified. In this article, we explored the effects of miR-509 on the malignant phenotype of TNBC cells, including proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. We transiently transfected TNBC cells, Hs578T, with miR-509 mimic. Upon transfection, the expression of miR-509 was upregulated about 50-fold compared with cells transfected with scramble mimic. Overexpression of miR-509 inhibited cell proliferation, induced cell apoptosis, and suppressed More >

Abstract Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have a number of side effects. However, some medicinal herbs have anti-inflammatory properties with few side effects. This study aimed to determine the effect of the aqueous extract of Gongronema latifolium (AEGL) leaves on the level of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in rabbits. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to determine the effect of the AEGL on the activities of pro-inflammatory cytokine (TNFα), and regulatory cytokine (TGF-β) in rabbits. Also, a colorimetric method was performed to evaluate the levels of AST and More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 769-783, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.016636

Abstract Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) immunotherapy has recently shown promising approach. However, some TNBC patients presented with resistance. One of the reasons was attributed to the excessive release of cytokines at the tumor microenvironment (TME) such as Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10). Fine regulation of these cytokines’ levels via non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) might alleviate the immune quiescent nature of TME at TNBC tumors. However, the extrapolation of ncRNAs as therapeutic tools is highly challenging. Therefore, disentanglement the nature for the isolation of natural compounds that could modulate the ncRNAs and their respective… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 1005-1012, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014581

Abstract Background and Objective: LTB4 has been shown to be involved in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) pathogenesis. The effect of Dioscin(Dio) on the LTB4 pathway of RA have not been reported yet. This study aimed at further exploring whether Dioscin’s effects on TNF-α induced collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) connected with the LTB4 and its receptor pathway. Materials & Methods: In this experiment, control group, TNF-α group, and different concentrations of Dioscin groups were established. Cell viability was evaluated using MTT assay. The levels of LTB4 in the samples of above groups were measured using ELISA.… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.4, pp. 631-638, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.010596

Abstract Periodontitis, as a chronic inflammatory disease, remains unsolved, and the pathogenesis of this disease has not been fully elucidated. In this study, the effect of miR-4262 was investigated in tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) induced human periodontal stem cells (hPDLSCs) for the first time. The gene expression involved in this study was determined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the expressions of relevant proteins were determined by western blot analysis, and the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and MCP-1 were estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) assay. The luciferase reporter assay was performed for verification of the target More >

Short Communication: Agmatine inhibits hypoxia-induced TNF-α release from cultured retinal ganglion cells

SAMIN HONG, KYOUNGSOO PARK, CHAN YUN KIM, GONG JE SEONG

    BIOCELL, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 201-205, 2008, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2008.32.201

Abstract The effect of hypoxia on the release of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in transformed rat retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and the effect of agmatine on the hypoxia-induced production of TNF-α in RGCs were evaluated. RGCs were cultured under hypoxic conditions with 5% oxygen, with or without 100 μM agmatine. The expression levels of TNF-α and its receptor-1 (TNF-R1) were investigated by Western blot analysis. After 6 hours of hypoxia, we noted an increase in TNF-α production in RGCs. Agmatine significantly reduced TNF-α level after 12 hours of hypoxic treatment. The expression of TNF-R1 was not More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.38, No.1, pp. 1-6, 2014, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2014.38.001

Abstract Artesunate, an antimalarial drug, has been shown to inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators in various disease conditions. The present study was carried out to evaluate the anti-edematogenic effect of artesunate in the rat paw edema model. Inflammation was induced in the hind paw of rat by sub-plantar injection of 0.1 mL of 0.5% carrageenan and the paw volume was measured up to a fixed mark just before the injection and then after 3 h. The difference in two volumes gave a measure of edema formation. At 3h the level of TNF-α, PGE2 and myeloperoxidase More >
