TIANYUN HAN#, ZHONG LI#, LUONING ZHANG, LINSHEN XIE*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.11, pp. 1625-1638, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.055029 - 07 November 2024

Abstract Objective: The study aimed to explore the protective mechanism of Ganoderic acid A (GAA) in renal fibrosis and to verify that GAA can ameliorate renal fibrosis by regulating the Niemann-pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) gene. Methods: Transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-β1) was used to treat Human Kidney-2 (HK-2) cells to establish a renal fibrosis model. The differentially expressed genes in the control (CTRL) group, TGF-β1 group, and TGF-β1 + GAA group were screened via transcriptome sequencing technology and verified by qPCR and Western blot experiments. The NPC1L1 gene overexpression plasmid was constructed. The expression levels of N-cad, E-cad,… More >

Abstract Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous, recurring cancer characterized by a high rate of metastasis, poor prognosis, and lack of efficient therapies. KBU2046, a small molecule inhibitor, can inhibit cell motility in malignant tumors, including breast cancer. However, the specific targets and the corresponding mechanism of its function remain unclear. Methods: In this study, we employed (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H tetrazolium) (MTS) assay and transwell assay to investigate the impact of KBU2046 on the proliferation and migration of TNBC cells in vitro. RNA-Seq was used to explore the targets of KBU2046 that inhibit the motility of TNBC.… More > Graphic Abstract

TGAIN: Geospatial Data Recovery Algorithm Based on GAIN-LSTM

    Lechan Yang1,*, Li Li2, Shouming Ma3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.81, No.1, pp. 1471-1489, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.056379 - 15 October 2024

Abstract Accurate geospatial data are essential for geographic information systems (GIS), environmental monitoring, and urban planning. The deep integration of the open Internet and geographic information technology has led to increasing challenges in the integrity and security of spatial data. In this paper, we consider abnormal spatial data as missing data and focus on abnormal spatial data recovery. Existing geospatial data recovery methods require complete datasets for training, resulting in time-consuming data recovery and lack of generalization. To address these issues, we propose a GAIN-LSTM-based geospatial data recovery method (TGAIN), which consists of two main works:… More >

BTG2 interference ameliorates high glucose-caused oxidative stress, cell apoptosis, and lipid deposition in HK-2 cells

    WENJUAN ZHU1, ZHENGZHENG JU2, FAN CUI2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.9, pp. 1379-1388, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.052205 - 04 September 2024

Abstract Objective: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a deleterious microangiopathy of diabetes, constituting a critical determinant of fatality in diabetic patients. This work is purposed to disclose the effects and modulatory mechanism of BTG anti-proliferation factor 2 (BTG2) during the pathological process of DN. Methods: BTG2 expression in kidney tissues of diabetic mice and high glucose (HG)-exposed human proximal tubular cell line HK-2 was assessed with Western blot and RT-qPCR. The diabetic mice model was constructed by streptozotocin injection and confirmed by the blood glucose level beyond 16.7 mmol/L. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining and measurement of… More >

Rehabilitation of Semi-Arid Grasslands through the Perennialization of Lots by Implementing Perennial Forage Exotic Grass

Delfina Arancio Sidoti1,2, Juan Manuel Zeberio1,3,*, Guadalupe Peter1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.8, pp. 2115-2125, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.053483 - 30 August 2024

Abstract Argentina is the country with the highest proportion of arid and semi-arid ecosystems in Latin America. In the rangelands of Southwestern Buenos Aires (Patagones Department), there is a clear advancement of the agricultural frontier to the detriment of the native forest in this region. Due to rainfall variation and seed acquisition, Thinopyrum ponticum is cultivated as a forage perennial crop in this region. Our objective was to evaluate the performance of T. ponticum as a facilitating crop for the medium-term rehabilitation of natural grasslands in semi-arid areas. The working hypotheses were that: 1) native perennial grass cover… More >

An Attention-Based Approach to Enhance the Detection and Classification of Android Malware

    Abdallah Ghourabi*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.2, pp. 2743-2760, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.053163 - 15 August 2024

Abstract The dominance of Android in the global mobile market and the open development characteristics of this platform have resulted in a significant increase in malware. These malicious applications have become a serious concern to the security of Android systems. To address this problem, researchers have proposed several machine-learning models to detect and classify Android malware based on analyzing features extracted from Android samples. However, most existing studies have focused on the classification task and overlooked the feature selection process, which is crucial to reduce the training time and maintain or improve the classification results. Abstract COVID-19 pandemic restrictions limited all social activities to curtail the spread of the virus. The foremost and most prime sector among those affected were schools, colleges, and universities. The education system of entire nations had shifted to online education during this time. Many shortcomings of Learning Management Systems (LMSs) were detected to support education in an online mode that spawned the research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) based tools that are being developed by the research community to improve the effectiveness of LMSs. This paper presents a detailed survey of the different enhancements to LMSs, which… More >

    Naif Al Mudawi*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.3, pp. 4945-4962, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048967 - 20 June 2024

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurological condition that progresses over time. People start to have trouble speaking, writing, walking, or performing other basic skills as dopamine-generating neurons in some brain regions are injured or die. The patient’s symptoms become more severe due to the worsening of their signs over time. In this study, we applied state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to diagnose Parkinson’s disease and identify related risk factors. The research worked on the publicly available dataset on PD, and the dataset consists of a set of significant characteristics of PD. We aim to apply… More >

Abstract The chemical composition and thermal properties of natural fibers are the most critical variables that determine the overall properties of the fibers and influence their processing and use in different sustainable applications, such as their conversion into bioenergy and biocomposites. Their thermal and mechanical properties can be estimated by evaluating the content of cellulose, lignin, and other extractives in the fibers. In this research work, the chemical composition and thermal properties of three fibers, namely bagasse, kenaf bast fibers, and cotton stalks, were evaluated to assess their potential utilization in producing biocomposites and bioenergy materials.… More >
