Junying Wei*, Gang Li, Chenrui Zhang, Wenwen Chang, Jidai Wang

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 199-214, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041793 - 30 November 2023

Abstract To study the complex internal flow field variation and output characteristics of a variable base radius scroll expander, this paper uses dynamic mesh techniques and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods to perform transient numerical simulations of a variable base radius scroll expander. Analysis of the flow field in the working cavity of a variable base radius scroll expander at different spindle angles and the effect of different profiles, speeds and pressures on the output characteristics of the scroll expander. The results of the study show that due to the periodic blocking of the inlet by… More >

NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF NONLUBRICATED AIR SCROLL EXPANDER DERIVED FROM A REFRIGERANT SCROLL COMPRESSOR

    Aparna Kottapallia , Ramakrishna Konijetib,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-11, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.11

Abstract Scroll technology is widely used in refrigerators as compressors. This research paper presents the performance of a scroll-type expander derived from a scroll compressor. The research is carried out at low pressures. The effect of mechanical load on performance has been evaluated using compressed air as a working fluid. Two stages of the evaluation process are carried out in this research. In the first stage, the scroll expander model is numerically simulated using the CFD approach to predict the factors influencing the scroll expander performance. In the later stage, an experiment is carried out on… More >

Improvement and Experimental Study of Scroll Expander for Organic Rankine Cycle

    Lei Li1,2,3,*, Leren Tao2,3, Yanan Gou1, Shan Zhang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.4, pp. 225-235, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010892 - 31 July 2020

Abstract The scroll expander used in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is improved, and its performance is analyzed experimentally. The modified profile and inlet hole of the scroll expander are enhanced, and the performance of the scroll expander before and after the improvement is analyzed. The results show that when the inlet pressure exceeds 0.7 MPa, the waist-shaped hole with a larger area is preferable. The scroll expander with a waist-shaped hole has a larger output power and wider optimal pressure range, and when the inlet pressure is 1.6 MPa, the maximum output power increases by More >
