miR-133a-3p Targets SUMO-Specific Protease 1 to Inhibit Cell Proliferation and Cell Cycle Progress in Colorectal Cancer

Guo-Qiang Zhou*, Fu Han*, Zhi-Liang Shi*, Liang Yu*, Xue-Feng Li*, Cheng Yu*, Cheng-Long Shen*, Dai-Wei Wan, Xin-Guo Zhu, Rui Li, Song-Bing He

    Oncology Research, Vol.26, No.5, pp. 795-800, 2018, DOI:10.3727/096504017X15004613574679

Abstract Dysregulation of SUMO-specific protease 1 (SENP1) expression has been reported in several kinds of cancer, including human colorectal and prostate cancers, proposing SENP1 as an oncogene with a critical role in cancer progression. miR-133a-3p has been reported as a tumor suppressor in several malignant neoplasias. However, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying its role in colorectal cancer remain largely unknown. The aim of this work was to investigate the relationship between miR-133a-3p and SENP1 in colorectal cancer cells. We found that miR-133a-3p expression was downregulated in colorectal cancer tissues. In silico analyses indicated that SENP1 is More >

Multi-Objective Optimization of Traffic Signal Timing at Typical Junctions Based on Genetic Algorithms

    Zeyu Zhang1, Han Zhu1, Wei Zhang1, Zhiming Cai2,*, Linkai Zhu2, Zefeng Li2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 1901-1917, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.039395

Abstract With the rapid development of urban road traffic and the increasing number of vehicles, how to alleviate traffic congestion is one of the hot issues that need to be urgently addressed in building smart cities. Therefore, in this paper, a nonlinear multi-objective optimization model of urban intersection signal timing based on a Genetic Algorithm was constructed. Specifically, a typical urban intersection was selected as the research object, and drivers’ acceleration habits were taken into account. What’s more, the shortest average delay time, the least average number of stops, and the maximum capacity of the intersection… More >

Rice E3 Ligase-Like Protein OsPIAL1 Positively Regulated the Drought Stress Response but Negatively Regulated the Salt Stress Response

    Sang Ik Song*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.7, pp. 2017-2034, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.027469

Abstract Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) E3 ligases that facilitate the conjugation of SUMO proteins to target substrates contain an SP-RING domain which is like the RING domain found in ubiquitin E3 ligases. In this study, we isolated and characterized the Oryza sativa protein inhibitor of activated STAT like1 (OsPIAL1) containing SP-RING domains, as the rice homolog of Arabidopsis PIALs. OsPIAL1 interacts with OsSUMO proteins but does not interact with rice SUMO-conjugating enzymes (OsSCEs). An analysis of transgenic rice plant shows that OsPIAL1 is involved in SUMO conjugation to SCEs but not in SUMO conjugation to substrates. In addition,… More >

Ubiquitin-like posttranslational modifications in NAFLD progression and treatment

    FUJI YANG1, YAN HUANG1, YOUWEN TAN2,*, YONGMIN YAN1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 389-400, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.015899

Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a long-lasting condition that affects the liver, destroying its function. Liver injury can cause steatosis and inflammation, and further activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) often leads to the development of nonalcoholic liver fibrosis. The patient with NAFLD is at risk of developing advanced liver disease and complications, such as liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and portal hypertension. Although our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of NAFLD has greatly improved in recent years, treatment remains limited. Analysis and characterization of protein posttranslational modifications (PTMs) could improve our More >
