    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.6, pp. 867-875, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030411

Abstract Invasion and metastasis are important hallmarks of breast cancer and are the leading cause of patient mortality. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive type of breast cancer characterized by a poor prognosis and a lack of effective targeted therapies. The present study investigated the inhibitory effect of a novel FTY720 derivative on the invasive phenotype of TNBC cells. Here, we showed that a novel compound with an isoxazole ring, 4-(3-Decylisoxazol-5-yl)-1-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)butan-2-aminium chloride (CM2-II-173), significantly inhibited invasiveness of MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells. Expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and invasiveness of MCF10A normal breast cells induced by sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) were reduced by CM2-II-173… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.6, pp. 887-897, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030184

Abstract Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is among the most prevalent causes of cancer-related death in patients worldwide. Resistance to immunotherapy and chemotherapy results in worse survival outcomes in ESCC. It is urgent to explore the underlying molecular mechanism of immune evasion and chemoresistance in ESCC. Here, we conducted RNA-sequencing analysis in ten ESCC tissues from cisplatin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy patients. We found that DMRTA1 was extremely upregulated in the non-pathologic complete response (non-pCR) group. The proliferation rate of esophageal squamous carcinoma cells was markedly decreased after knockdown of DMRTA1 expression, which could increase cisplatin sensitivity in ESCC. Additionally, suppression of DMRTA1… More >

    KE JIA1, FU-QING TAN2, SHUANG-LI HAO1,*, WAN-XI YANG1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.11, pp. 2399-2413, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.022015

Abstract The SRY-related high mobility group (HMG) box (SOX) transcription factors participate in many physiological processes of animal growth, development, and reproduction and are related to spermatogenesis in many species. However, the relationship between SOX and spermatogenesis in Eriocheir sinensis is rarely reported. Here, we studied the role of Es-SOX8 in the spermatogenesis of E. sinensis and its possible regulation mechanism. Immunofluorescence results demonstrated Es-SOX8 signal in both cytoplasm and nucleus of spermatogonia, spermatocytes as well as spermatids, but not in mature spermatozoa. Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed a significant increase in the number of spermatozoa with abnormal nuclear morphology   … More >

Shihui Liu, Xiuxiu Li, Sujing Zhuang

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 165-171, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15193506006164

Abstract miR-30c has been acknowledged as a tumor suppressor in various human cancers, such as ovarian cancer, gastric cancer, and prostate cancer. However, the role of miR-30c in glioblastoma (GBM) needs to be investigated. In our study, we found that the expression of miR-30c was significantly downregulated in GBM tissues and cell lines. We found that overexpression of miR-30c inhibited cellular proliferation of GBM cells in vitro and in vivo. More GBM cells were arrested in the G0 phase after miR-30c overexpression. Moreover, we showed that miR-30c overexpression suppressed the migration and invasion of GBM cells. Mechanistically, we found that SOX9… More >

miR-363-3p Inhibits Osteosarcoma Cell Proliferation and Invasion via Targeting SOX4

Kejun Wang*1, Lin Yan*1, Fen Lu

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 157-163, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15190861873459

Abstract miR-363-3p has been shown to suppress tumor growth and metastasis in various human cancers. However, the function of miR-363-3p in osteosarcoma (OS) has not been determined. In our study, we found that the expression of miR-363-3p was significantly downregulated in OS tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. miR-363-3p expression was associated with the poor overall survival rate of OS patients. Moreover, we found that overexpression of miR-363-3p markedly inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of U2OS and MG63 cells. Moreover, we found that SOX4 was a direct target of miR-363-3p in OS cells. Overexpression of miR-363-3p significantly inhibited the expression… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.5, pp. 1355-1367, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.015817

Abstract Genetic and molecular heterogeneity, together with intrinsic and acquired resistance to therapy, represent the major obstacles to the successful treatment of different types of breast carcinoma. Increasing evidence demonstrates that SOX transcription factors in breast carcinomas could act both as oncogenes and tumor suppressors and have been associated with tumor stage and grade, poor prognosis, and therapy resistance. Both SOX2 and SOX18 overexpression has been correlated with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas, and these genes are recognized as potential antitumor targets. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of retinoic acid (RA), a well-known cyto-differentiating agent, on breast carcinoma cells… More >

    HAIFENG WANG1,2, KAI WANG1, JUAN GUO1, TIEQIAO WEN2

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 59-64, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.05731

Abstract Histone deacetylation is a key modulator involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and mRNA transcription. However, the effects of histone deacetylation on C17.2 neural stem cells (NSCs) remain unclear. Here, the histone deacetylase inhibitors nicotinamide and trichostatin A (TSA) were used to determine the role of histone deacetylation on gene transcription in NSCs. The results showed that the mRNA expression of p53, Sox1, Sox2, and Bax were significantly higher in E14.5 NSCs than in C17.2 NSCs. Nestin, a marker gene of neuronal differentiation, did not differ significantly between E14.5 NSCs and C17.2 NSCs. The transcription levels of p53 and Nestin were… More >
