An Advanced Bald Eagle Search Algorithm for Image Enhancement

    Pei Hu1, Yibo Han1, Jeng-Shyang Pan2,3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.3, pp. 4485-4501, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.059773 - 06 March 2025

Abstract Image enhancement utilizes intensity transformation functions to maximize the information content of enhanced images. This paper approaches the topic as an optimization problem and uses the bald eagle search (BES) algorithm to achieve optimal results. In our proposed model, gamma correction and Retinex address color cast issues and enhance image edges and details. The final enhanced image is obtained through color balancing. The BES algorithm seeks the optimal solution through the selection, search, and swooping stages. However, it is prone to getting stuck in local optima and converges slowly. To overcome these limitations, we propose… More >

Local Content-Aware Enhancement for Low-Light Images with Non-Uniform Illumination

Qi Mu*, Yuanjie Guo, Xiangfu Ge, Xinyue Wang, Zhanli Li

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.3, pp. 4669-4690, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.058495 - 06 March 2025

Abstract In low-light image enhancement, prevailing Retinex-based methods often struggle with precise illumination estimation and brightness modulation. This can result in issues such as halo artifacts, blurred edges, and diminished details in bright regions, particularly under non-uniform illumination conditions. We propose an innovative approach that refines low-light images by leveraging an in-depth awareness of local content within the image. By introducing multi-scale effective guided filtering, our method surpasses the limitations of traditional isotropic filters, such as Gaussian filters, in handling non-uniform illumination. It dynamically adjusts regularization parameters in response to local image characteristics and significantly integrates… More >

    Retinexformer+: Retinex-Based Dual-Channel Transformer for Low-Light Image Enhancement

    Song Liu1,2, Hongying Zhang1,*, Xue Li1, Xi Yang1,3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.2, pp. 1969-1984, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.057662 - 17 February 2025

Abstract Enhancing low-light images with color distortion and uneven multi-light source distribution presents challenges. Most advanced methods for low-light image enhancement are based on the Retinex model using deep learning. Retinexformer introduces channel self-attention mechanisms in the IG-MSA. However, it fails to effectively capture long-range spatial dependencies, leaving room for improvement. Based on the Retinexformer deep learning framework, we designed the Retinexformer+ network. The “+” signifies our advancements in extracting long-range spatial dependencies. We introduced multi-scale dilated convolutions in illumination estimation to expand the receptive field. These convolutions effectively capture the weakening semantic dependency between pixels… More >

RF-Net: Unsupervised Low-Light Image Enhancement Based on Retinex and Exposure Fusion

Tian Ma, Chenhui Fu*, Jiayi Yang, Jiehui Zhang, Chuyang Shang

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.1, pp. 1103-1122, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.042416 - 31 October 2023

Abstract Low-light image enhancement methods have limitations in addressing issues such as color distortion, lack of vibrancy, and uneven light distribution and often require paired training data. To address these issues, we propose a two-stage unsupervised low-light image enhancement algorithm called Retinex and Exposure Fusion Network (RF-Net), which can overcome the problems of over-enhancement of the high dynamic range and under-enhancement of the low dynamic range in existing enhancement algorithms. This algorithm can better manage the challenges brought about by complex environments in real-world scenarios by training with unpaired low-light images and regular-light images. In the… More >

Dark and Bright Channel Priors for Haze Removal in Day and Night Images

    U. Hari, A. Ruhan Bevi*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 957-967, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023605 - 03 May 2022

Abstract Removal of noise from images is very important as a clear, denoised image is essential for any application. In this article, a modified haze removal algorithm is developed by applying combined dark channel prior and multi-scale retinex theory. The combined dark channel prior (DCP) and bright channel prior (BCP) together with the multi-scale retinex (MSR) algorithm is used to dynamically optimize the transmission map and thereby improve visibility. The proposed algorithm performs effective denoising of images considering the properties of retinex theory. The proposed method removes haze on an image scene through estimation of the More >

    Zhe Yu1, Bangyong Sun1,3,*, Di Liu2, Vincent Whannou de Dravo1, Margarita Khokhlova4, Siyuan Wu3

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.5, pp. 1381-1395, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018262 - 22 December 2021

Abstract In this paper, we propose a neoteric and high-efficiency single image dehazing algorithm via contrast enhancement which is called STRASS (Spatio-Temporal Retinex-Inspired by an Averaging of Stochastic Samples) dehazing, it is realized by constructing an efficient high-pass filter to process haze images and taking the influence of human vision system into account in image dehazing principles. The novel high-pass filter works by getting each pixel using RSR and computes the average of the samples. Then the low-pass filter resulting from the minimum envelope in STRESS framework has been replaced by the average of the samples. More >

A Study of Single Image Haze Removal Using a Novel White-Patch RetinexBased Improved Dark Channel Prior Algorithm

    Yao-Liang Chung1,*, Hung-Yuan Chung2, Yu-Shan Chen2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 367-383, 2020, DOI:10.31209/2020.100000206

Abstract In this study, we introduce an algorithm which is based on a series of wellknown algorithms and mainly uses an improved dark channel prior algorithm and the White-Patch Retinex algorithm (both are heterogeneous algorithms) in order to effectively remove the haze from a single image. When used in conjunction with a heterogeneous architecture, the value of the algorithm becomes even greater. With an effective design and a novel procedure, the proposed algorithm can not only restore a clear image, but also solve the halo effect, color distortion, and long operating time issues resulting from the More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 671-678, 2018, DOI:10.31209/2018.100000033

Abstract With continuing commercialization of remote sensing satellites, the high resolution remote sensing image has been increasingly used in various fields of our life. A multi-phase oil tank recognition of remote sensing images, namely coarse detection and artificial neural network (ANN) recognition, is proposed. The experimental results of algorithms presented in this paper show that the proposed processing technology is reliable More >
