Rehabilitation of Semi-Arid Grasslands through the Perennialization of Lots by Implementing Perennial Forage Exotic Grass

Delfina Arancio Sidoti1,2, Juan Manuel Zeberio1,3,*, Guadalupe Peter1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.8, pp. 2115-2125, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.053483 - 30 August 2024

Abstract Argentina is the country with the highest proportion of arid and semi-arid ecosystems in Latin America. In the rangelands of Southwestern Buenos Aires (Patagones Department), there is a clear advancement of the agricultural frontier to the detriment of the native forest in this region. Due to rainfall variation and seed acquisition, Thinopyrum ponticum is cultivated as a forage perennial crop in this region. Our objective was to evaluate the performance of T. ponticum as a facilitating crop for the medium-term rehabilitation of natural grasslands in semi-arid areas. The working hypotheses were that: 1) native perennial grass cover… More >

Field Load Test Based SHM System Safety Standard Determination for Rigid Frame Bridge

Xilong Zheng*, Qiong Wang, Di Guan

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 361-376, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2024.048473 - 15 May 2024

Abstract The deteriorated continuous rigid frame bridge is strengthened by external prestressing. Static loading tests were conducted before and after the bridge rehabilitation to verify the effectiveness of the rehabilitation process. The stiffness of the repaired bridge is improved, and the maximum deflection of the load test is reduced from 37.9 to 27.6 mm. A bridge health monitoring system is installed after the bridge is reinforced. To achieve an easy assessment of the bridge’s safety status by directly using transferred data, a real-time safety warning system is created based on a five-level safety standard. Video-Based Interventions for Adolescents and Young Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review

    Mohammed Al Jaffal*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.8, pp. 881-890, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.028982 - 06 July 2023

Abstract Many individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience delays in the development of social and communications skills, which can limit their opportunities in higher education and employment resulting in an overall negative impact to their quality of life. This systematic review identifies 15 studies that explored the effectiveness of Video-Based Interventions (VBIs) for those with ASD during the critical years of adolescence and young adulthood. The 15 studies described herein found this to be an effective intervention for this population for the improvement of their vocational, daily living, and academic skills. In addition, VBIs allow… More >

Signal Processing and AI-based Assessment of Rehabilitation Exercises for Diastasis Recti Abdominis

    R. Karthik1, R. Menaka1,*, P. Ponmathi2, Daehan Won3, P. Vinitha Joshy1, J. G. Aravindan4, S. Harshavardhan4, K. V. S. D. Aashish kumar4, R. Akileshkumar4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 333-348, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.037661 - 26 May 2023

Abstract Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA) is the separation of abdominal recti muscles which occurs in women during their pregnancy and postpartum time. This is because of the stretching of the linea alba, a fibrous connective tissue on the abdominal wall. The Linea Alba is elastic and retracts back after the delivery of the baby. When this tissue gets overstretched, it loses its elasticity and the gap in the abdominals may not be closed leading to DRA. The motive of this research is to analyze the postpartum rehabilitation for signals from Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors. The… More >

Prevalence of Anxiety and Associated Factors among University Students: A Cross-Sectional Study in Japan

    Yoshikiyo Kanada1,#, Shota Suzumura1,2,#, Soichiro Koyama1, Kazuya Takeda1, Kenta Fujimura1, Takuma Ii1, Shigeo Tanabe1, Hiroaki Sakurai1,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.7, pp. 855-861, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.028956 - 01 June 2023

Abstract Mental health difficulties can impact students’ motivation, focus, and ability to communicate with others. Students attending medical universities are more likely to experience anxiety, depression, and other mood changes for the first time. However, no study has examined their prevalence among Japanese rehabilitation students. This study investigated the prevalence of anxiety among Japanese rehabilitation students and aimed to identify its predictors. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 148 first-year physical and occupational therapy students at a private medical university in Japan in June 2022. Data on sociodemographic and personal characteristics, such as gender, age, subject… More >

Precise Rehabilitation Strategies for Functional Impairment in Children with Cerebral Palsy

    Yaojin Sun1, Nan Jiang1,*, Min Zhu1, Hao Hua2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 3191-3202, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.035425 - 15 March 2023

Abstract This paper explores the effect of precise rehabilitation strategies under the international classification of functioning, disability and health for children and youth (ICF-CY) on the motor function of children with cerebral palsy. Under the framework of ICF-CY, the observation team is designed and evaluated from physical functions, activities and participation, environmental factors, and develops individualized rehabilitation strategies that are tailored to individual characteristics. The control group was assessed by traditional methods and treatment plans and measures were formulated and guided. The course of treatment was 12 months. The scores of GMFM-88, Peabody Motor Development Scale-2concluding… More >

TMCA-Net: A Compact Convolution Network for Monitoring Upper Limb Rehabilitation

    Qi Liu1, Zihao Wu1,*, Xiaodong Liu2

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 169-181, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2022.040368 - 12 June 2023

Abstract This study proposed a lightweight but high-performance convolution network for accurately classifying five upper limb movements of arm, involving forearm flexion and rotation, arm extension, lumbar touch and no reaction state, aiming to monitoring patient’s rehabilitation process and assist the therapist in elevating patient compliance with treatment. To achieve this goal, a lightweight convolution neural network TMCA-Net (Time Multiscale Channel Attention Convolutional Neural Network) is designed, which combines attention mechanism, uses multi-branched convolution structure to automatically extract feature information at different scales from sensor data, and filters feature information based on attention mechanism. In particular,… More >

Investigating the Retrofit of RC Frames Using TADAS Yielding Dampers

    Mehrzad TahamouliRoudsari1,*, K. Cheraghi2, R. Aghayari2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.4, pp. 343-359, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.07927 - 03 January 2023

Abstract TADAS dampers are a type of passive structural control system used in the seismic design or retrofitting of structures. These types of dampers are designed so that they would yield before the main components of the structure during earthquake. This dissipates a large portion of the earthquake’s energy and reduces the energy dissipation demand in the main components of the structure. Considering its suitable performance, this damper has been the subject of numerous studies. However, there are still ambiguities regarding the effect of the number of these dampers on the retrofitting of reinforced concrete (RC)… More >
