Immunomodulatory and chemopreventive effects of resveratrol on the digestive system cancers

    MEIR DJALDETTI*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.9, pp. 1389-1399, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2024.049745 - 23 August 2024

Abstract Resveratrol (RSV), the primary polyphenol found in grapes, has been revealed to have anti-inflammatory properties by reducing the capacity of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, IL-1ra and TNFα. Considering the close association between chronic inflammation and cancer development, RSV’s immunomodulatory properties are one way by which the polyphenol may inhibit cancer initiation, proliferation, neovascularization, and migration. Resveratrol influences the generation of microtumor environment which is one of the key factors in cancer progress. In addition to immunomodulation, RSV inhibits cancer development by expressing anti-oxidant effects, causing cell cycle… More > Graphic Abstract

Papaya Ring Spot Virus: An Understanding of a Severe Positive-Sense Single Stranded RNA Viral Disease and Its Management

    Muhammad Umer1, Mustansar Mubeen2, Yasir Iftikhar2,*, Haider Ali3, Muhammad Zafar-ul-Hye4, Rafia Asghar5, Mazhar Abbas6, Malik Abdul Rehman7, Ernesto A. Moya-Elizondo8, Yuejun He1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.10, pp. 2099-2110, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.022013 - 30 May 2022

Abstract Viral diseases have been studied in-depth for reducing quality, yield, health and longevity of the fruit, to highlight the economic losses. Positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses are more devastating among all viruses that infect fruit trees. One of the best examples is papaya ringspot virus (PRSV). It belongs to the genus Potyvirus and it is limited to cause diseases on the family Chenopodiaceae, Cucurbitaceae and Caricaceae. This virus has a serious threat to the production of papaya, which is famous for its high nutritional and pharmaceutical values. The plant parts such as leaves, latex, seeds, fruits, bark, peel… More >

Classification of Liver Tumors from Computed Tomography Using NRSVM

    S. Priyadarsini1,*, Carlos Andrés Tavera Romero2, M. Mrunalini3, Ganga Rama Koteswara Rao4, Sudhakar Sengan5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 1517-1530, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.024786 - 24 March 2022

Abstract A classification system is used for Benign Tumors (BT) and Malignant Tumors (MT) in the abdominal liver. Computed Tomography (CT) images based on enhanced RGS is proposed. Diagnosis of liver diseases based on observation using liver CT images is essential for surgery and treatment planning. Identifying the progression of cancerous regions and Classification into Benign Tumors and Malignant Tumors are essential for treating liver diseases. The manual process is time-consuming and leads to intra and inter-observer variability. Hence, an automatic method based on enhanced region growing is proposed for the Classification of Liver Tumors (LT).… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.4, pp. 1025-1032, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018248 - 15 December 2021

Abstract Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection is known as a risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). RSV infection induces the upregulation of Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3). This study aimed to investigate the association of TLR3 with RSV induced acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Serum/sputum samples from AECOPD patients, stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (SCOPD) patients, and healthy controls were collected. Nested PCR was used to detect RSV. The lung function parameters were assessed by blood gas and lung function analysis. The expression levels of inflammatory factors in sputum and serum samples… More >

RSV prophylaxis guideline changes and outcomes in children with congenital heart disease

    Adam S. Walpert1, Ian D. Thomas2, Merlin C. Lowe Jr1, Michael D. Seckeler3

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.3, pp. 428-431, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12590

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to compare inpatient outcomes and costs for children with respiratory syncytial virus and congenital heart disease before and after the change in management guidelines for respiratory syncytial virus prophylaxis.
Design: Hospital discharge data from the Vizient (formerly University HealthSystem Consortium) were queried from October 2012 to June 2014 (Era 1) and July 2014 to April 2016 (Era 2) for patients aged <24 months with an any International Classification of Disease (ICD)-9 or ICD-10 code for congenital heart disease (745-747.49, Q20.0-Q26.4) and a primary or secondary admitting diagnosis of respiratory syncytial… More >
