Abstract Ribosomal protein L34 (RPL34) belongs to the L34E family of ribosomal proteins and contains a zinc finger motif. Aberrant expression of RPL34 has been reported in several human malignancies. However, the precise role and potential underlying mechanisms of RPL34 in human esophageal cancer remain largely unknown. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the role of RPL34 in esophageal cancer progression. Our results showed that the expression of RPL34 at both the mRNA and protein levels was frequently upregulated in esophageal cancer cell lines. Knockdown of RPL34 efficiently inhibited esophageal cancer cell proliferation, More >

Abstract Background: The dysregulation of Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) and the subsequent production of 2-Hydroxyglutrate (2HG) may alter the expression of epigenetic proteins in Grade 4 astrocytoma. The interplay mechanism between IDH, O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT)-promoter methylation, and protein methyltransferase proteins-5 (PRMT5) activity, with tumor progression has never been described. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 34 patients with G4 astrocytoma is classified into IDH-mutant and IDH-wildtype tumors. Both groups were tested for MGMT-promoter methylation and PRMT5 through methylation-specific and gene expression PCR analysis. Inter-cohort statistical significance was evaluated. Results: Both IDH-mutant WHO grade 4 astrocytomas (n = 22, 64.7%) and IDH-wildtype… More > Graphic Abstract

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.12, pp. 2803-2818, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.042328

Abstract To solve the problem of residual wind power in offshore wind farms, a hydrogen production system with a reasonable capacity was configured to enhance the local load of wind farms and promote the local consumption of residual wind power. By studying the mathematical model of wind power output and calculating surplus wind power, as well as considering the hydrogen production/storage characteristics of the electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank, an innovative capacity optimization allocation model was established. The objective of the model was to achieve the lowest total net present value over the entire life cycle.… More >

Abstract The persistent global pandemic, COVID-19, stems from the pathogenic influence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), yielding an unprecedented worldwide crisis. With reference to a WHO report, the count of COVID-19 cases had exceeded 754 million by February 03, 2023. Intriguingly, emerging research has spotlighted the intricate interplay of gut microbiota and mitochondrial entities, acting as potent immunomodulatory factors at the cellular and molecular levels. This interconnection operates through a series of dynamic mechanisms. SARS-CoV-2 infection perturbs the delicate equilibrium of gut microbiota, leading to dysbiosis—a signature biomarker. This imbalance is intrinsically linked More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.1, pp. 491-515, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.041108

Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) consists of interconnected smart devices communicating and collecting data. The Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is the standard protocol for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) in the IoT. However, RPL is vulnerable to various attacks, including the sinkhole attack, which disrupts the network by manipulating routing information. This paper proposes the Unweighted Voting Method (UVM) for sinkhole node identification, utilizing three key behavioral indicators: DODAG Information Object (DIO) Transaction Frequency, Rank Harmony, and Power Consumption. These indicators have been carefully selected based on their contribution to sinkhole… More >

Abstract Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a malignant tumor with high incidence worldwide. Triptolide (TP), extracted from Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F, exhibits potent broad-spectrum antitumor activity. Although some mechanisms through which TP inhibits NSCLC are well understood, those that involve ribosomal proteins remain yet to be understood. In this study, the transcriptome and proteome were integrated and analyzed. Our data indicated ribosomal protein L4 (RPL4) to be a core hub protein in the protein-protein interaction network. RPL4 is overexpressed in NSCLC tissues and cells. Transfection with siRPL4 or TP treatment alone arrested the cell cycle in More > Graphic Abstract
