Experimental Study on Improving Performance and Productivity of Pyramid Solar Still Using Rotation Technique

Ali Abdullah Abbas Baiee, Sasan Asiaei*, Sayed Mostafa Hosseinalipour*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 955-976, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.051532 - 11 July 2024

Abstract Globally, potable water scarcity is pervasive problem. The solar distillation device is a straightforward apparatus that has been purposefully engineered to convert non-potable water into potable water. The experimental study is distinctive due to the implementation of a rotational mechanism within the pyramidal solar still (PSS), which serves to enhance the evaporation and condensation processes. The objective of this research study is to examine the impact of integrating rotational motion into pyramidal solar stills on various processes: water distillation, evaporation, condensation, heat transfer, and energy waste reduction, shadow effects, and low water temperature in saline… More >

Energy and Exergy Analysis of Pyramid-Type Solar Still Coupled with Magnetic and Electrical Effects by Using Matlab Simulation

    Karrar A. Hammoodi1,*, Hayder A. Dhahad2, Wissam H. Alawee3, Z. M. Omara4

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 217-262, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.047329 - 21 March 2024

Abstract In the face of an escalating global water crisis, countries worldwide grapple with the crippling effects of scarcity, jeopardizing economic progress and hindering societal advancement. Solar energy emerges as a beacon of hope, offering a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to desalination. Solar distillation technology, harnessing the power of the sun, transforms seawater into freshwater, expanding the availability of this precious resource. Optimizing solar still performance under specific climatic conditions and evaluating different configurations is crucial for practical implementation and widespread adoption of solar energy. In this study, we conducted theoretical investigations on three distinct… More > Graphic Abstract

ENHANCEMENT OF FRESH WATER PRODUCTION ON TRIANGULAR PYRAMID SOLAR STILL USING PHASE CHANGE MATERIAL AS STORAGE MATERIAL

Ravishankar Sathyamurthya,*, P.K. Nagarajanb, Hyacinth J. Kennadya, T.S. Ravikumara, V. Paulsonc, Amimul Ahsand

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.5, pp. 1-5, 2014, DOI:10.5098/hmt.5.3

Abstract This paper presents the method of improvement of enhancing the performance of triangular pyramid solar still with and without latent heat energy storage. For comparing the productivity of solar still with and without LHTESS a solar still is designed, fabricated. Experiments are conducted in hot and humid climate of Chennai, India. Paraffin wax is used as LHTESS due to its feasible general and economic properties. The hourly productivity is slightly higher in case of solar still without LHTESS during sunny days. There is an increase of about 35% in production of fresh water with LHTESS More >
