    HONGYUAN LIANG1,#, YANQIU LI2,#, YONGGANG QU3, LINGYUN ZHANG4,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 393-407, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.031134 - 28 December 2023

Abstract Advanced LUAD shows limited response to treatment including immune therapy. With the development of sequencing omics, it is urgent to combine high-throughput multi-omics data to identify new immune checkpoint therapeutic response markers. Using GSE72094 (n = 386) and GSE31210 (n = 226) gene expression profile data in the GEO database, we identified genes associated with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) death using tools such as “edgeR” and “maftools” and visualized the characteristics of these genes using the “circlize” R package. We constructed a prognostic model based on death-related genes and optimized the model using LASSO-Cox regression methods.… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.4, pp. 543-567, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.029563 - 25 June 2023

Abstract The high immune infiltration and heterogeneity of the microenvironment in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) result in the variability of prognosis and clinical response. While PANoptosis has strong immunogenicity and is worthy of further study. In this study, data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database was used to obtain immune-related PANoptosis lncRNAs with prognostic value. Subsequently, the role of these lncRNAs in cancer immunity, progression and the therapeutic response was analyzed, and a new prediction model was constructed. Additionally, we further explored the biological value of PANoptosis-related lncRNAs using single-cell data from the Gene… More >

    Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) causes oxidative stress, which leads to the oxidation of various biomolecules by the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to facilitate programmed cell death (PCD). The antioxidant defense system fails to detoxify ROS when it is produced in excess. Nitric oxide (NO), a gaseous free radical and a phytohormone, regulates various physiological processes of plants. Therefore, this work was undertaken to study the effects of the application of exogenous sodium nitroprusside (SNP, a NO donor) on growth parameters, oxidative stress, accumulation of secondary metabolites, and activities of antioxidant enzymes under Cd stress. Abstract The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade is important in stress signal transduction and plant development. In the present study, we identified a rice (Oryza sativa L.) mutant with reduced fertility, Oryza sativa mitogen-activated protein kinase 6 (osmapk6), which harbored a mutated MAPK gene. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy, quantitative RT-PCR analysis, TUNEL assays, RNA in situ hybridization, longitudinal and transverse histological sectioning, and map-based cloning were performed to characterize the osmapk6 mutant. The gene OsMAPK6 was expressed throughout the plant but predominantly in the microspore mother cells, tapetal cells, and microspores in the anther sac. Compared with the More >

Clinical Significance of PD-L1 Expression and CD8-Positive Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes in Patients with Cavitary Lung Adenocarcinoma

    Jiangyong Liu1,#,*, Mingming Gu2,#, Yang Xue1, Qiong Wang3, Yong Ren3, Wencai Huang1,*

Abstract Cavitary lung cancer is a rare type of lung cancer. Generally, the relationship between cavitary lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and specific immune checkpoints remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to detect the expression of programmed cell death ligand-1(PD-L1) and the density of CD8-positive (CD8+) tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) to evaluate their clinicopathological significance in the case of patients with cavitary LUAD. This study included 65 patients with cavitary LUAD. Patient specimens were obtained from surgery. The expression of PD-L1 protein and CD8+ TIL status was detected by traditional immunohistochemistry and multiplex quantitative immunofluorescence technology. The correlation of… More >

Abstract To evaluate the cost–utility of pembrolizumab versus chemotherapy as the first-line setting for metastatic nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) from the US health care system perspective, a Markov model was developed to compare the lifetime cost and effectiveness of pembrolizumab versus chemotherapy for untreated metastatic NSCLC, based on the clinical data derived from phase III randomized controlled trial (KEYNOTE- 042; ClinicalTrials.gov; NCT02220894). Weibull distribution was fitted to simulate the parametric survival functions. Drug costs were collected from official websites, and utility values were obtained from published literature. Total costs, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), and incremental… More >

High Blood miR-802 Is Associated With Poor Prognosis in HCC Patients by Regulating DNA Damage Response 1 (REDD1)-Mediated Function of T Cells

Chao Jiang*, Xueyan Liu, Meng Wang*, Guoyue Lv*, Guangyi Wang*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.9, pp. 1025-1034, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15456687424096

Abstract miR-802 has been reported to be dysregulated in multiple tumors and contribute to tumor progression. However, its role in HCC was still largely unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the function and mechanism of miR-802 in HCC progression. The results showed that miR-802 was upregulated in the peripheral blood and tumor tissue of HCC patients, and high levels of blood miR-802 predicted poor prognosis. miR-802 had no effect on the proliferation and migration of HCC cell lines. Interestingly, the levels of CD8/CD28 and regulated in development and DNA damage response 1 (REDD1) More >

miR-103 Functions as a Tumor Suppressor by Directly Targeting Programmed Cell Death 10 in NSCLC

Dong Yang, Jian-Jun Wang, Jin-Song Li, Qian-Yu Xu

    Oncology Research, Vol.26, No.4, pp. 519-528, 2018, DOI:10.3727/096504017X15000757094686

Abstract Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for about 85% of all lung cancer cases. Absence of miR-103 has recently been identified to be associated with metastatic capacity of primary lung tumors. However, the exact role of miR-103 in NSCLC and the molecular mechanism are unclear. In the present study, we showed that miR-103 expression was reduced in NSCLC tissues and cells. miR-103 expression was negatively correlated with tumor size and stage. The overall survival was longer in patients with higher miR-103 level than in those with lower miR-103 expression. miR-103 inhibited cell proliferation in A549… More >

Cysteine proteinases of Trypanosoma cruzi: from digestive enzymes to programmed cell death mediators

GREGOR KOSEC, VANINA ALVAREZ**¶, JUAN J. CAZZULO**

    BIOCELL, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 479-490, 2006, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2006.30.479

Abstract Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite causing Chagas disease, contains a number of proteolytic enzymes. The recent completion of the genome sequence of the T. cruzi CL Brener clone suggests the presence of 70 cysteine peptidases, 40 serine peptidases (none of them from the chymotrypsin family), about 250 metallopeptidases (most leishmanolysin homologues), 25 threonine peptidases, and only two aspartyl peptidases, none of them from the pepsin family. The cysteine peptidases belong to 7 families of Clan CA, 3 families of Clan CD, and one each of Clans CE and CF. In Clan CA, the C1 family is represented by More >
