Bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation of cystathionine-gamma-lyase as a potential prognosis biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma

    YANAN MA1, SHANSHAN WANG2,*, HUIGUO DING1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 463-471, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.048244 - 15 March 2024

Abstract Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with poor prognosis and high mortality worldwide. Although cystathionine-gamma-lyase (CSE) plays an important role in the development of multiple tumors, the clinical implication and potential mechanisms of CSE in HCC development remain elusive. Methods: In our study, the CSE expression in HCC was analyzed in Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) datasets and further confirmed by RT-qPCR and immunohistochemistry assays in HCC samples. Furthermore, the associations between CSE expression and HCC malignancy as well as survival were analyzed in GSE14520 and validated… More >

Polo-like kinase 1 suppresses lung adenocarcinoma immunity through necroptosis

    PENGCHENG ZHANG1,#,*, XINGLONG ZHANG2,#, YONGFU ZHU3, YIYI CUI1, JING XU4, WEIPING ZHANG1,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.6, pp. 937-953, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030933 - 15 September 2023

Abstract Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) plays a crucial role in cell mitosis and has been associated with necroptosis. However, the role of PLK1 and necroptosis in lung adenocarcinoma (LA) remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases to evaluate the prognostic value and mechanistic role of PLK1 in LA. PLK1 was found to be highly expressed in LA and was positively associated with advanced disease staging and poor survival outcomes. Functional enrichment analysis showed that PLK1 was involved in cell mitosis, neurotransmitter transmission, and drug metabolism. Further analysis… More > Graphic Abstract

Identification of a 10-pseudogenes signature as a novel prognosis biomarker for ovarian cancer

    YONGHUI YU1,#, SONGHUI XU2,#, ERYONG ZHAO3,#, YONGSHUN DONG1, JINBIN CHEN1, BOQI RAO1, JIE ZENG4, LEI YANG1, JIACHUN LU1, FUMAN QIU1,4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.4, pp. 999-1011, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.017004 - 15 December 2021

Abstract The outcomes of ovarian cancer are complicated and usually unfavorable due to their diagnoses at a late stage. Identifying the efficient prognostic biomarkers to improve the survival of ovarian cancer is urgently warranted. The survival-related pseudogenes retrieved from the Cancer Genome Atlas database were screened by univariate Cox regression analysis and further assessed by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method. A risk score model based on the prognostic pseudogenes was also constructed. The pseudogene-mRNA regulatory networks were established using correlation analysis, and their potent roles in the ovarian cancer progression were uncovered by… More >

TRIP13 is identified as a prognosis biomarker for renal clear cell carcinoma and promotes renal cell carcinoma cell proliferation, migration and invasion

    BENJIANG QIAN1, XIAOYAN YING2, GUANG YANG1, HUIZHANG LI3, JIANMING TAN1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.3, pp. 577-588, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014972 - 03 March 2021

Abstract This work aimed to discover new therapeutic targets in renal clear cell carcinoma by bioinformatics and detect the effect of candidate gene TRIP13 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Differentially expressed mRNAs were screened based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma (KIRC) databases, and functional enrichments, survival analysis, receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), and Protein–Protein Interaction (PPI) protein interaction analysis were performed by R software to screen the candidate gene TRIP13. Then, the expression of candidate gene TRIP13 in 92 pairs of cancer and adjacent normal tissues… More >
