TWO DIFFERENT APPROACHES FOR ANALYSING HEAT TRANSFER IN A POWER-LAW FLUID FLOW BETWEEN PARALLEL PLATES

    Fábio A. Caldasa,*, Paulo M. Coelhob,†

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.32

Abstract In this paper, Nusselt numbers for a power-law fluid in a fully developed laminar flow between parallel plates with constant, and different, wall heat fluxes in the presence of dissipation effects are presented. The Nusselt numbers values were obtained following two different approaches. One is the “classical” approach, based on a single bulk temperature, and this approach is used in this work to obtain for the first time generic analytical expressions for Nusselt numbers. In the new approach, different bulk temperatures are used for each Nu′ determination, one bulk temperature for each side of the More >

SCALING GROUP TRANSFORMATION FOR MIXED CONVECTION IN A POWER-LAW FLUID SATURATED POROUS MEDIUM WITH EFFECTS OF SORET, RADIATION AND VARIABLE PROPERTIES

    J. Pranithaa,* , G. Venkata Sumana , D. Srinivasacharyaa

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.39

Abstract An analysis is performed to investigate the influence of radiation, thermal-diffusion and variable properties on mixed convection flow, heat and mass transfer from a vertical plate in a porous medium saturated with a power-law fluid. The non-linear partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations by implementing Lie scaling group transformations. These ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by implementing a shooting technique. The numerical results for dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles for pseudo-plastic, Newtonian and dilatant fluids are presented graphically for different values of variable viscosity, variable thermal conductivity, Soret and radiation More >

Effect of Double Stratification on Free Convection in a Power-Law Fluid Saturated Porous Medium

    D. Srinivasacharya1, G. Swamy Reddy1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 291-305, 2013, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2013.009.291

Abstract Free convection and related heat and mass transfer along a vertical plate embedded in a power-law fluid saturated Darcy porous medium with thermal and solutal stratification effects is studied. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations and then solved numerically by means of a shooting method. The variations of non-dimensional velocity, temperature and concentration are presented graphically for various values of the power-law index, and of the thermal and solutal stratification parameters. In addition, the heat and mass transfer rates are tabulated for different values of the governing More >

CHEMICAL REACTION AND RADIATION EFFECTS ON NATURAL CONVECTION IN POROUS MEDIUM SATURATED WITH POWER-LAW FLUID

    D. Srinivasacharya, G. Swamy Reddy

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.3, No.4, pp. 1-9, 2012, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v3.4.3008

Abstract The natural convection heat and mass transfer along a vertical plate embedded in non-Newtonian Power-law fluid saturated porous medium in the presence of first order chemical reaction and radiation is studied. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The resulting equations are solved numerically using Shooting method. The effect of radiation parameters and chemical reaction parameter and power law index on non-dimensional velocity, temperature and concentration fields are discussed. The variation of different parameters on heat and mass transfer rates is presented in tabular form. More >

An Analysis of The Flow Resistance in Coiled Tubing Wound Around A Reel, In Microhole Drilling

    Xuejun Hou1,2, Deli Gao1, Zhonghou Shen1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.89, No.2, pp. 97-110, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2012.089.097

Abstract Microhole drilling (MHD) is a new frontier drilling technology in which the diameter of wellbore is less than 88.9mm and coiled tubing (CT) is used as drill string. The CT wound around reel for MHD has small bending radius and large length to result in large circulating flow resistance and affect normal MHD circulation. The calculation model for curvature radius and length of CT wound around reel are established by analyzing the relationships among the various geometrical parameters of the reel system. The calculation model is combined with Dean number and power-law fluid state equation… More >
