Abstract The current study used RP-HPLC to compare phytochemicals and estimate the bioactive constituents found in Stevia rebaudiana Bert. (SRB) leaves collected from two different geographical sources. SRB leaves were collected from Bangalore, Karnataka, India, and Reduit, Mauritius. Extracts were prepared using ethanol and aqueous solvents. Proximate analysis was used to evaluate moisture content, ash values, crude fibers, and extractive values. Following that, preliminary phytochemical screening was done on both ethanol leaves extracts, and subsequently total flavonoid content was determined. In addition, TLC chromatograms and RP-HPLC studies were performed on both plant extracts to determine the presence… More >

Abstract Moringa oleifera is a miracle plant rich in nutrients, antioxidants, and antibiotic properties. Present study was designed to evaluate various biochemical attributes of leaves and flowers of M. oleifera. Plant parts (leaves, flowers) of M. oleifera, collected from different roadsides of Multan district, Punjab, Pakistan, were used as experimental material. Result indicates that alkaloids, saponin, carbohydrates, fats, and protein had a high value in the aqueous extract of both leaves and flowers of M. oleifera. Whereas phenol content was high in methanolic leaves extract and the phenol contents were high in aqueous extract of flowers. The extract yield of… More >

Anti-lipid droplets accumulation effect of Annona montana (mountain soursop) leaves extract on differentiation of preadipocytes

    IVY LEUNG1, MARIA-LUISA VEISAGA2, MARGARITA ESPINAL1, WEI ZHANG1, ROBERT BARNUM1, MANUEL ALEJANDRO BARBIERI1,2,3,4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 567-578, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.014009 - 18 November 2021

Abstract The Annona genus is a member of Annonaceae, one of the largest families of plants across tropical and sub-tropical regions. This family has been used in several ethnomedicinal practices to treat a multitude of human diseases. However, the molecular mechanism underlying its effect on the lipid droplet formation and on the expression of adipogenic markers of this plant remain to be investigated. In this study, we examined whether the extracts from the aerial part of Annona montana affect in vitro differentiation of preadipocytes. For our investigations, both mouse embryo fibroblast 3T3-L1 and normal human primary subcutaneous preadipocytes were… More >

Phytochemical Analysis and Antioxidant Activity of Crocus speciosus Leaves

    Olha Mykhailenko1,*, Ivan Bezruk1, Victoriia Volochai2, Volodymyr Mishchenko3, Liudas Ivanauskas4, Victoriya Georgiyants1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.1, pp. 207-221, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.016458 - 16 August 2021

Abstract The numerous studies indicate leaves of plants are a rich source of bioactive compounds that can be a valuable source of compounds used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Aim of this study was to investigate the chemical composition and the antioxidant property of Crocus speciosus leaves. Primary phytochemical screening of C. speciosus leaves revealed the presence of some following compound categories such as phenolic compounds, aminoacids, saponins, proteins, tannins, triterpenoids, glycosides, polysaccharides. The total flavonoids and phenolic compounds content were determined spectrophotometrically and by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-MS. Antiradical activity was determined by ABTS radical-cation scavenging method,… More >
