The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011032

Abstract Metal Hydride (MH) is a promising hydrogen storage technique owing to its safety, availability, and high volumetric storage density. MH hydrogen storage reactor is the core component of MH hydrogen storage technology. However, the thermal effect of MH hydrogen storage reactor in the process of hydrogenation/dehydrogenation is significant, which requires an efficient heat management system for the reactor. Phase change materials (PCM) can be applied to MH hydrogen storage reactor, and have the advantages of simple structure. In this paper, representative PCM thermal management methods were summarized, and the distribution structure of the existing multi-layer… More >

Abstract As buildings evolve to meet the challenges of energy efficiency and indoor comfort, phase change materials (PCM) emerge as a promising solution due to their ability to store and release latent heat. This paper explores the transformative impact of incorporating PCM on the hygrothermal dynamics of multi-zone constructions. The study focuses on analyzing heat transfer, particularly through thermal conduction, in a wall containing PCM. A novel approach was proposed, wherein the studied system (sensitive balance) interacts directly with a latent balance to realistically define the behavior of specific humidity and mass flow rates. Inga Zotova1,*, Edgars Kirilovs1, Laura Ziemele2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 603-613, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2024.047607 - 11 April 2024

Abstract Nowadays buildings contain innovative materials, materials from local resources, production surpluses and rapidly renewable natural resources. Phase Change Materials (PCM) are one such group of novel materials which reduce building energy consumption. With the wider availability of microencapsulated PCM, there is an opportunity to develop a new type of insulating materials, combinate PCM with traditional insulation materials for latent heat energy storage. These materials are typically flammable and are located on the interior wall finishing yet there has been no detailed assessment of their fire performance. In this research work prototypes of low-density insulating boards… More > Graphic Abstract

The Effects of Thickness and Location of PCM on the Building’s Passive Temperature-Control–A Numerical Study

    Zhengrong Shi1,3, Jie Ren1, Tao Zhang1,3,*, Yanming Shen2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.3, pp. 681-702, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.045238 - 27 February 2024

Abstract Building energy consumption and building carbon emissions both account for more than 20% of their total national values in China. Building employing phase change material (PCM) for passive temperature control shows a promising prospect in meeting the comfort demand and reducing energy consumption simultaneously. However, there is a lack of more detailed research on the interaction between the location and thickness of PCM and indoor natural convection, as well as indoor temperature distribution. In this study, the numerical model of a passive temperature-controlled building integrating the developed PCM module is established with the help of… More > Graphic Abstract

    Chen Gao1, Kai Sun1, QingZhi Hou2,3, KeWei Song1,2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-3, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.08905

Abstract As the fossil energy is increasingly exhausted and air pollution becomes more and more serious, blade electric vehicles equipped with rechargeable lithium-ion battery turns into the major developing direction of new energy automobile [1-3]. Lithium-ion batteries have the advantages of high energy density, light weight, and no pollution, and thereby are widely used in electric vehicles [4,5]. However, the working performance and service life of lithium-ion batteries are greatly affected by temperature [6]. Excessive high and low temperature will reduce the charge and discharge capacity of lithium-ion batteries, shorten their service life, and even lead… More >

Investigation the Influence of Phase Change Material Amount on a Hot-Water Stratification in Charging Mode

Abeer H. Falih*, Basim Freegah, Adnan A. Abdulrasool

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 141-160, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.01525 - 30 November 2023

Abstract Among the various techniques for enhancing the storage and consumption of energy in a thermal energy storage system, the establishment of thermal stratification in a hot-water container is an effective technology. The current study aims to assess the performance of the thermal stratification for hot-water containers using (ANSYS Fluent) R.1.0, 2022, through the study of the impact of different numbers of paraffin-filled containers, namely 3, 5, and 7, that are equivalent to 5, 7, and 9 kg of paraffin, respectively. To validate the present numerical model, a comparison between the current study results and the… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract It is common knowledge that phase-change materials are used for the purpose of thermal storage because of the characteristics that are exclusive to these materials and not found in others. These characteristics include a large capacity for absorbing heat and a large capacity for releasing heat when the phase changes; however, these materials have a low thermal conductivity. This paper presents the results of an experimental study that investigated the impact that nanoparticles of copper oxide had on reducing the temperature of solar panels. The phase change substance that was used was determined to be More >

INVESTIGATION AND OPTIMIZATION OF A THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES COMBINING CLOSED AIR-COOLING WITH PHASE CHANGE MATERIAL

Xiaoyong Gua,*, Gang Wub, Biwen Chenc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-9, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.24

Abstract To maintain the maximum temperature and temperature difference of batteries in electric vehicles within a reasonable range, a battery thermal management system combining closed air-cooling with phase change material(PCM) is proposed and investigated. A three-dimensional numerical model is developed and validated by experiment. The results indicate that the temperature rise of batteries decreases with the increase of ambient temperature. The increasing filling amount of PCM reduces the maximum temperature difference of batteries as well as the effect of the airflow rate on maximum temperature of batteries. The energy consumption is minimum when the filling amount More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1283-1290, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.023183 - 30 November 2022

Abstract Phase change materials (PCMs) have the ability to store thermal energy and make it available at a later stage to keep indoor temperature within a specific range and achieve better thermal comfort in buildings. This study focuses on the performances of materials obtained by combining a standard building material with a PCM. In particular, two different materials mixed with the same PCM are considered under the same climatic conditions. The related thermal behavior is assessed in the framework of numerical simulations conducted with ANSYS Fluent assuming parameters representative of a city located in Europe. The More >
