    Abstract Heavy metal contamination in water sources is a widespread global concern, particularly in developing nations, with various treatment approaches under extensive scientific investigation. In the present study, we fabricated electrospun composite polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofibrous membranes exhibiting hierarchical surface roughness and superhydrophobicity for the removal of heavy metal ions via vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) process.     Development of a CNT/Bi2S3/PVDF composite waterproof film-based strain sensor for motion monitoring

    Abstract An innovative flexible electronic device was developed by integrating functionalized carbon nanotubes, bismuth sulfide nanostructures, and a polyvinylidene fluoride matrix to create a highly water‐resistant strain detection platform. The fabricated film exhibited a remarkable static water contact angle of 141°, with only a 3–4° reduction after 48 hours of immersion, confirming its excellent hydrophobic performance. Mechanical testing revealed a tensile strength of 43.2 MPa and maintained over 96% of its original strength following 1000 bending cycles, thereby demonstrating outstanding durability under repetitive deformation.     Abstract Physical Vapor Deposited (PVD) TiAlN coatings are extensively utilized as protective layers for cutting tools, renowned for their excellent comprehensive performance. To optimize quality control of TiAlN coatings for cutting tools, a multi-scale simulation approach is proposed that encompasses the microstructure evolution of coatings considering the entire preparation and service lifecycle of PVD TiAlN coatings.     Abstract Refurbishment of thermal barrier coating (TBC) has become a valuable technique to prolong the service life of high-temperature components. In this work, the effect of refurbishment process on the oxidation behaviors of TBC was investigated. Before recoating, the soft chemical stripping method was used to remove TBC from DD6 single-crystal superalloy.     Abstract A new sensor concept for monitoring fatigue crack growth in technical structures is presented. It allows the in-situ determination of the position of the crack tip as well as the fracture mechanical quantities. The required data are obtained from a piezoelectric polymer film, which is attached to the surface of the monitored structure.
