    Oncology Research, Vol.33, No.8, pp. 1947-1967, 2025, DOI:10.32604/or.2025.060440 - 18 July 2025

Abstract Background: Tumor angiogenesis is related to solid tumor occurrence. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 13 (USP13) is a deubiquitinating enzyme with a pivotal effect on tumor proliferation, metastasis, and tumorigenesis. Nonetheless, its effect on colorectal cancer (CRC) angiogenesis remains poorly understood. Methods: Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and CRC cells were cultivated, followed by USP13 knockdown/overexpression using shRNA lentiviral vectors or plasmids. Conditioned media (CM) from treated CRC cells were collected to assess HUVEC migration, invasion, and tube formation. Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) overexpression and recombinant vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) rescue experiments were performed.… More >

Low-molecular-weight fucoidan inhibits the proliferation of melanoma via Bcl-2 phosphorylation and PTEN/AKT pathway

    MINJI PARK1, CHULHWAN BANG2, WON-SOO YUN3, YUN-MI JEONG3,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 273-282, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.044362 - 28 December 2023

Abstract Fucoidan, a sulfate polysaccharide obtained from brown seaweed, has various bioactive properties, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, anti-coagulant, anti-thrombotic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-Helicobacter pylori properties. However, the effects of low-molecular-weight fucoidan (LMW-F) on melanoma cell lines and three dimensional (3D) cell culture models are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the effects of LMW-F on A375 human melanoma cells and cryopreserved biospecimens derived from patients with advanced melanoma. Ultrasonic wave was used to fragment fucoidan derived from Fucus vesiculosus into smaller LMW-F. MTT and live/dead assays showed that LMW-F inhibited cell proliferation in both A375 cells More >

Abstract Background: Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor. Exploration of new tumorigenesis mechanism of glioma is critical to determine more effective treatment targets as well as to develop effective prognosis methods that can enhance the treatment efficacy. We previously demonstrated that the deubiquitinase biquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase L5 (UCHL5) was downregulated in human glioma. However, the effect and mechanism of UCHL5 on the proliferation of glioma cells remains unknown. Methods: Transfection of siRNA was used to knockdown the expression of UCHL5 in U251 cells. The 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, Edu assay, and colony formation… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Objective: Breast cancer is a major cancer threatening the health of women globally. To elucidate the effect of the circHIAT1/miR-19a-3p/phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) axis on regulating the malignant phenotype of breast cancer cells. Methods: The mRNA expression pattern of circHIAT1, miR-19a-3p, and PTEN was checked by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Then, the knockdown assay was carried out to explore the effect of circHIAT1 and miR-19a-3p on breast cancer. The relative cell experiments, including MTT assay, scratch assay, transwell invasion assay, and flow cytometry analysis, were conducted to verify the influence of circHIAT1 and miR-19a-3p… More >

Abstract The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) covert tunnel refers to a network attack that encapsulates malicious data in the data part of the ICMP protocol for transmission. Its concealment is stronger and it is not easy to be discovered. Most detection methods are detecting the existence of channels instead of clarifying specific attack intentions. In this paper, we propose an ICMP covert tunnel attack intent detection framework ICMPTend, which includes five steps: data collection, feature dictionary construction, data preprocessing, model construction, and attack intent prediction. ICMPTend can detect a variety of attack intentions, such as… More >

Abstract The current study is designed to evaluate certain immunocytochemical (ICC) biomarkers to gain a better cytodiagnosis. For this purpose, 85 patients from March 2016 to March 2019 who planned to get a hysteroscopy assay were recruited. Cytological sampling was conducted by scratching the uterus cavity using SAP-1, and the samples were processed as liquid-based smears, using SurePath technology. 36 patients diagnosed with EC or atypical endometrial hyperplasia were recruited in this study. 33 cases were diagnosed with EC, and 3 cases were diagnosed with atypical endometrial hyperplasia, allocated with EC or precancerous lesions group. 26… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.2, pp. 317-321, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.09313 - 19 February 2021

Abstract Ovarian cancer is a malignant cancer type and affects women’s lives in the world. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been involved with the progression of cancers. In our study, we are going to explore the functions of circATF6 in ovarian cancer. The qRT-PCR assay was used to detect expressions of genes. Actinomycin D and RNase R treatment were implemented to verify the circular RNA character of circATF6. Besides, Cell proliferation was assessed by colony formation assay and EdU assay. Silenced circATF6 could reduce the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells. In addition, inhibited circATF6 could promote the More >
