    Fawziea M. Hussien1, Atheer S. Hassoon2,*, Ghaidaa M. Ahmed1

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 175-191, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.047177 - 21 March 2024

Abstract A heat exchanger’s performance depends heavily on the operating fluid’s transfer of heat capacity and thermal conductivity. Adding nanoparticles of high thermal conductivity materials is a significant way to enhance the heat transfer fluid's thermal conductivity. This research used engine oil containing alumina (Al2O3) nanoparticles and copper oxide (CuO) to test whether or not the heat exchanger’s efficiency could be improved. To establish the most effective elements for heat transfer enhancement, the heat exchangers thermal performance was tested at 0.05% and 0.1% concentrations for Al2O3 and CuO nanoparticles. The simulation results showed that the percentage increase… More >

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 79-105, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.046891 - 21 March 2024

Abstract In the current research, a thorough examination unfolds concerning the attributes of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow and heat transfer inherent to nanoliquids derived from Sisko Al2O3-Eg and TiO2-Eg compositions. Such nanoliquids are subjected to an extending surface. Consideration is duly given to slip boundary conditions, as well as the effects stemming from variable viscosity and variable thermal conductivity. The analytical approach applied involves the application of suitable similarity transformations. These conversions serve to transform the initial set of complex nonlinear partial differential equations into a more manageable assembly of ordinary differential equations. Through the utilization… More > Graphic Abstract

Numerical Investigation Thermal Performance of Solar Air Heater Using Different Angle V-Grooved of Corrugated Absorber Plate

Ayad S. Abedalh*, Sohaib Hassan Mohammed

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 227-243, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041777 - 30 November 2023

Abstract Solar energy, a renewable resource, can be harnessed instead of fossil fuels to generate power and heat. One effective method for converting solar energy into heat is through a solar air heating (SAH) system. The theoretical investigation focused on the thermal performance of various V-groove angles on a corrugated absorber plate. The researchers maintained the exterior dimensions and constraints of the absorber plate while increasing its surface area by using a corrugated absorber surface. For the simulation, three different V-groove angles were employed: 45°, 30°, and 15°. The temperature and air flow rate into the… More > Graphic Abstract

Shrikant Arunrao Thote*, Netra Pal Singh

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 711-722, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021651 - 29 September 2022

Abstract The thermo-hydraulic properties of circular tubes with a twisted tape inside (used accordingly to induce turbulence and enhance heat transfer through the tube wall) are described for Reynolds Numbers ranging from 830 to 1990. Tapes twisted with the three distinct twist ratios are considered, namely, 6, 4.4 and 3. Air is used as the working fluid in several tests. For the sake of comparison, the standard tube with no insert is also examined. It is shown that in the presence of the twisted tape, the ‘frictional factor’, ‘Nusselt Number’ and the ‘thermal performance factor’ are More >

Numerical Study of Natural Convective Heat Transfer in an Air Filled Square Cavity Heated from Below and Symmetrically Cooled from the Sides with a Partition in the Hot Wall

    Farah Zemani-Kaci*, Amina Sabeur-Bendhina

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 513-539, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021974 - 29 August 2022

Abstract A two-dimensional numerical study of laminar natural convection in a square enclosure filled with air with a wall partially heated on the bottom is presented. The heat source is located on the lower wall with different heated widths varied from 20 to 80%(ε = 0.2–0.8) of the total width of the lower wall and different heights h = H/4 and H/2 of the partition. The effect of the partition height on the main system dynamics is investigated through solution of the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations and the energy equation by means of a finite volume method More > Graphic Abstract

Pipes with Trapezoidal Cut Twisted Tape Inserts in the Laminar Flow Regime: Nusselt Number and Friction Coefficient Analysis

Shrikant Arunrao Thote*, Netra Pal Singh

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 501-511, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021502 - 29 August 2022

Abstract The thermal behavior of pipes with a twisted tape inside (used to enhance heat transfer through the tube wall) is studied in the laminar flow regime. Oil is used as the work fluid with the corresponding Reynolds Number spanning the interval 200–2000. It is found that in such conditions the ‘Nusselt Number’ (Nu) gradually increases with reducing the tape twist ratio, whereas the friction factor is detrimentally affected by the presence of the tape (as witnessed by the comparison with the companion case where a plain tube is considered). In particular, it is shown that More >

    Boonchai Lertnuwat

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.1

Abstract The aim of this work is to numerically investigate the effect of mounting winglet vortex generators on different positions in rectangular-duct-type air heaters. The two investigated positions were the absorber plate and the insulation plate, opposite to the absorber plate. Four shapes of winglet vortex generator, i.e. perforated rectangular winglet vortex generators (P-RWVG), rectangular winglet vortex generators (RWVG), perforated trapezoidal winglet vortex generators (P-TWVG) and trapezoidal winglet vortex generators (TWVG), were used. Results showed that heat-transfer capability would be better if the winglet vortex generators were mounted on the opposite insulation plate in the cases More >
