LINC complex independent perinuclear actin organization and cell migration

    ANDREA FRACCHIA1,2, GABI GERLITZ1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.4, pp. 931-935, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018179 - 15 December 2021

Abstract The link of the metazoan nucleus to the actin cytoskeleton is highly important for actin polymerization and migration of multiple cell types as well as for mechanotransduction and even affects the cellular transcriptome. Several mechanisms of organization of actin filaments next to the nuclear envelope have been identified. Among these mechanisms the most studied one is the Linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton (LINC) complex-dependent perinuclear actin organization. However, recently additional mechanisms have been identified: an Actin-related protein-2/3 (Arp2/3)-dependent perinuclear actin polymerization during migration of dendritic cells and a perinuclear actin rim that is formed in More >

Nuclear pores in luteal cells during pregnancy and after parturition and pup removal in the rat. A freeze-fracture study

JUAN CARLOS CAVICCHIA*, GUSTAVO GUEMBE, MABEL FÓSCOLO

    BIOCELL, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 81-90, 2010, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2010.34.081

Abstract In a previous paper we described a pronounced increase of apoptotic nuclei in rat corpus luteum of pregnancy whose programmed chromatin degeneration was induced by the progesterone antagonist mifepristone. Those observations encouraged us to study the apoptotic nuclear membrane during pregnancy and after parturition and pup removal, by using a freeze-fracture technique which allows us to observe ‘en face’ the nuclear envelop and also permits nuclear pore counting. This study was complemented with the TUNEL assay (TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labelling). Changes in nuclear pores during pregnancy begin with an intense reduction in number but still… More >

A unique mechanism of nuclear division in Giardia lamblia involves components of the ventral disk and the nuclear envelope

ALBERTO J. SOLARI*, MONICA I. RAHN*, ALICIA SAURA**, HUGO D. LUJAN**

    BIOCELL, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 329-346, 2003, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2003.27.329

Abstract The fine structure of the binucleate, parasitic protist Giardia lamblia during interphase and divisional stages was studied by serial thin sectioning and three-dimensional reconstructions. The earlier sign of nuclear division is the development of a few peripheral areas of densely packed chromatin directly attached to the inner nuclear envelope. An intracytoplasmic sheet of ventral disk components grows from the cell periphery towards one of the nuclei, apparently constricting this nucleus, which becomes located at a ventral bulge. After the basal bodies become duplicated, a full nuclear division occurs in trophozoites, giving two pairs of parent-daughter nuclei.… More >
