The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012370

Abstract The interactions among thermal history, plastic deformation and stress in inertia friction welding (IFW) under different welding parameters have been widely considered a crucial issue and still not fully understood. A novel 3D fully coupled finite element model based on a plastic friction pair was developed to simulate the IFW process of a Ni-based superalloy and reveal the omnidirectional thermo-mechanical coupling mechanism under different welding conditions. The numerical model successfully simulated the deceleration, deformation processes, and peak torsional moments in IFW and captured the evolution of temperature, plastic deformation, and stress. The simulated results were… More >

Abstract X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) enables non-destructive acquisition of the internal structure of materials, and image segmentation plays a crucial role in analyzing material XCT images. This paper proposes an image segmentation method based on the Segment Anything model (SAM). We constructed a dataset of carbide in nickel-based single crystal superalloys XCT images and preprocessed the images using median filtering, histogram equalization, and gamma correction. Subsequently, SAM was fine-tuned to adapt to the task of material XCT image segmentation, resulting in Material-SAM. We compared the performance of threshold segmentation, SAM, U-Net model, and Material-SAM. Our method More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 73-80, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2006.011.073

Abstract A simple back force model is proposed for a dislocation cutting into γ' precipitate, taking the work formaking and recovering an anti-phase boundary (APB) into account. The first dislocation, or a leading partial of a superdislocation, is acted upon by a back force whose magnitude is equal to the APB energy. The second dislocation, or a trailing partial of a superdislocation, is attracted by the APB with a force of the same magnitude. The model is encoded in the 3D discrete dislocation dynamics (DDD) code and applied to the cutting behavior of dislocations at a… More >

Numerical Investigation of Creep Damage Development in the Ni-Based Superalloy IN738 LC at 850 °C

    Wolfgang Brocks1, Weidong Qi2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.3, No.3, pp. 313-320, 2002, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2002.003.313

Abstract Results of a numerical study of creep damage development and its effect on the deformation behavior in the Ni-based superalloy IN 738 LC at 850 °C are reported. A continuum damage mechanics based anisotropic damage model has been coupled with the unified model of Chaboche, and is used for the present study. Numerical computations are performed on a plate containing a circular hole under tension. They show that the applied damage model does not cause damage localization and no significant mesh-dependence of the results are observed. More >
