    Portia Felix1, Lee Leon1,*, Derek Gay1, Stefano Salon2, Hazi Azamathulla1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 59-77, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.028031 - 08 November 2023

Abstract Oil spills continue to generate various issues and concerns regarding their effect and behavior in the marine environment, owing to the related potential for detrimental environmental, economic and social implications. It is essential to have a solid understanding of the ways in which oil interacts with the water and the coastal ecosystems that are located nearby. This study proposes a simplified model for predicting the plume-like transport behavior of heavy Bunker C fuel oil discharging downward from an acutely-angled broken pipeline located on the water surface. The results show that the spill overall profile is… More >

    V.S. Sampath Kumar, N.P. Pai , B. Devaki

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-13, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.30

Abstract In the present study, we consider Casson fluid flow between two porous plates with permeability criteria in the presence of heat transfer and magnetic effect. A proper set of similarity transformations simplify the Navier-Stokes equations to non-linear ODEs with boundary conditions. The homotopy perturbation method is an efficient and stable method which is used to get solutions. Further, the results obtained are compared with the solution computed through an effective and efficient finite difference approach. The purpose of this analysis is to study the four different cases arise viz: suction, injection, mixed suction and mixed More >

    Peng Wei1, Zirun Jiang1, Weipeng Xu1, Zhenyu Liu2, Yongbo Deng2,3, Minqiang Pan4,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.1, pp. 593-619, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.023978 - 05 January 2023

Abstract In this paper, we consider solving the topology optimization for steady-state incompressible Navier-Stokes problems via a new topology optimization method called parameterized level set method, which can maintain a relatively smooth level set function with a local optimality condition. The objective of topology optimization is to find an optimal configuration of the fluid and solid materials that minimizes power dissipation under a prescribed fluid volume fraction constraint. An artificial friction force is added to the Navier-Stokes equations to apply the no-slip boundary condition. Although a great deal of work has been carried out for topology More >

Abstract The numerical solution of compressible flows has become more prevalent than that of incompressible flows. With the help of the artificial compressibility approach, incompressible flows can be solved numerically using the same methods as compressible ones. The artificial compressibility scheme is thus widely used to numerically solve incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Any numerical method highly depends on its accuracy and speed of convergence. Although the artificial compressibility approach is utilized in several numerical simulations, the effect of the compressibility factor on the accuracy of results and convergence speed has not been investigated for nanofluid flows in… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 2035-2055, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027830 - 18 May 2022

Abstract To apply the fictitious domain method and conduct numerical experiments, a boundary value problem for an ordinary differential equation is considered. The results of numerical calculations for different values of the iterative parameter τ and the small parameter ε are presented. A study of the auxiliary problem of the fictitious domain method for Navier-Stokes equations with continuation into a fictitious subdomain by higher coefficients with a small parameter is carried out. A generalized solution of the auxiliary problem of the fictitious domain method with continuation by higher coefficients with a small parameter is determined. After… More >

Application of the Navier-Stokes Equations to the Analysis of the Landslide Sediments Permeability and Related Seepage Effects

    Meng Song1,*, Yuncai Liu2, Zhen Wang1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 313-327, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017737 - 16 December 2021

Abstract The purpose of the study is to implement a new model based on the Navier-Stokes equations for the characterization of landslide sediments interacting with a moving fluid. The model is implemented by combining Hypermesh, the LS-DYNA software and MATLAB. The results show that the main factors affecting the permeability of landslide sediments are the genetic mechanism, the structure and composition of materials, material lithology, and stress. The characteristics and mechanism of permeability changes are determined by adjusting the water levels of fluids. It is found that the permeability of landslide sediments increases at the front More >

    V. S. Sampath Kumara , N. P. Paia,† , B. Devakia

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-7, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.3

Abstract A study is carried out for the two dimensional laminar flow of conducting fluid in presence of magnetic field. The governing non-linear equations of motion are transformed in to dimensionaless form. A solution is obtained by homotopy perturbation method and it is valid for moderately large Reynolds numbers for injection at the wall. Also an efficient algorithm based finite difference scheme is developed to solve the reduced coupled ordinary differential equations with necessary boundary conditions. The effects of Reynolds number, the magnetic parameter and the pradantle number on flow velocity and tempratare distribution is analysed More >

    Abd-Allah Hyder1, 2, *, M. El-Badawy3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.2, pp. 859-870, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.09897 - 10 June 2020

Abstract In this paper, the non-stationary incompressible fluid flows governed by the Navier-Stokes equations are studied in a bounded domain. This study focuses on the timefractional Navier-Stokes equations in the optimal control subject, where the control is distributed within the domain and the time-fractional derivative is proposed as RiemannLiouville sort. In addition, the control object is to minimize the quadratic cost functional. By using the Lax-Milgram lemma with the assistance of the fixed-point theorem, we demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution to this system. Moreover, for a quadratic cost functional subject to the More >

    D. O. Redchyts1, E. A. Shkvar2,*, S. V. Moiseienko3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.5, pp. 509-525, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.08266

Abstract A mathematical model for unsteady electro- and aerodynamic processes in the presence of a plasma actuator has been elaborated through physical modeling of the dielectric barrier discharge. A specialized computational fluid dynamics package has been developed accordingly in order to calculate steady and unsteady laminar and turbulent flows. For the numerical simulation of the dielectric barrier discharge, in particular, two equations have been added to the Navier-Stokes equations and solved. They describe the distribution of the applied voltage and the charged particles density. The impact of the plasma actuator on air has been accounted for… More >

A Fully Discrete SCNFVE Formulation for the Non-stationary Navier-Stokes Equations

    Zhendong Luo1, Fei Teng2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.101, No.1, pp. 33-58, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.101.033

Abstract A semi-discrete Crank-Nicolson (CN) formulation about time and a fully discrete stabilized CN finite volume element (SCNFVE) formulation based on two local Gauss integrals and parameter-free with the second-order time accuracy are established for the non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations. The error estimates of the semi-discrete and fully discrete SCNFVE solutions are derived. Some numerical experiments are presented to illustrate that the fully discrete SCNFVE formulation possesses more advantages than its stabilized finite volume element formulation with the first-order time accuracy, thus validating that the fully discrete SCNFVE formulation is feasible and efficient for finding the numerical More >
