    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.85, No.2, pp. 2781-2805, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.069709 - 23 September 2025

Abstract A new quadrilateral finite element IQ4 is developed for the free vibration of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) perforated plates with a central cutout. By enriching the membrane part and incorporating a projected shear technique, the IQ4 element is proposed to address the known limitations of the standard Q4 element, such as shear locking and limited consistency in the coupling of membrane-bending components. The proposed element is formulated within the FSDT-based framework and assessed through benchmark tests to verify its convergence and accuracy. The governing equations are obtained via the weak form of Hamilton’s principle. Particular… More >

Improved XFEM (IXFEM): Accurate, Efficient, Robust and Reliable Analysis for Arbitrary Multiple Crack Problems

    Lixiang Wang1, Longfei Wen2,3, Rong Tian2,3,*, Chun Feng1,4,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011137

Abstract The extended finite element method (XFEM) has been successful in crack analysis but faces challenges in modeling multiple cracks. One challenge is the linear dependence and ill-conditioning of the global stiffness matrix, while another is the geometric description for multiple cracks. To address the first challenge, the Improved XFEM (IXFEM) [1–9] is extended to handle multiple crack problems, effectively eliminating issues of linear dependence and ill-conditioning. Additionally, to overcome the second challenge, a novel level set templated cover cutting method (LSTCCM) [10] is proposed, which combines the advantages of the level set method and cover More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-3, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011520

Abstract Motivated by the fractures being very thin compared to the size of rock matrix, utilizing the non-conforming grid is an efficient approach to simulate fluid flow in fractured porous media. The embedded discrete fracture model (EDFM) is the typical one that using the conforming grid and modelled based on the finite volume method (FVM) framework. The EDFM maintains advantages of mass conservation and low computational complexity, but it cannot characterize blocking fractures and has a low accuracy on the mass exchange between fractures and matrix [1]. In our previous work [2], we developed the enriched-EDFM… More >

    Huijie Huang1, Jingfa Li2,*, Xu Sun1,*, Bo Yu2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011026

Abstract The blending of hydrogen into natural gas provides an optimal solution for large-scale hydrogen transport, utilizing existing natural gas pipelines for mixed conveyance. The thermophysical parameters of hydrogen-enriched natural gas (HENG) significantly influence the design and operation of gas transmission networks. Therefore, accurate prediction of the thermophysical parameters of HENG is crucial. However, due to the effects of hydrogen blending, the adaptability of commonly used equations of state (EoSs) to HENG remains uncertain, especially at high hydrogen blending ratios (HBRs). In this study, the accuracy of the EoSs of PR, BWRS, AGA8-92DC, and GERG-2008 is… More >

Enriched Constant Elements in the Boundary Element Method for Solving 2D Acoustic Problems at Higher Frequencies

    Zonglin Li1,2, Zhenyu Gao2, Yijun Liu2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2159-2175, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030920 - 15 December 2023

Abstract The boundary element method (BEM) is a popular method for solving acoustic wave propagation problems, especially those in exterior domains, owing to its ease in handling radiation conditions at infinity. However, BEM models must meet the requirement of 6–10 elements per wavelength, using the conventional constant, linear, or quadratic elements. Therefore, a large storage size of memory and long solution time are often needed in solving higher-frequency problems. In this work, we propose two new types of enriched elements based on conventional constant boundary elements to improve the computational efficiency of the 2D acoustic BEM.… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Any biogas produced by the anaerobic fermentation of organic materials has the advantage of being an environmentally friendly biofuel. Nevertheless, the relatively low calorific value of such gases makes their effective utilization in practical applications relatively difficult. The present study considers the addition of hydrogen as a potential solution to mitigate this issue. In particular, the properties of turbulent diffusion jet flames and the related pollutant emissions are investigated numerically for different operating pressures. The related numerical simulations are conducted by solving the RANS equations in the frame of the Reynolds Stress Model in combination More > Graphic Abstract
