Abstract Introduction: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury has received widespread attention due to its damaging effects. Electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment has preventive effects on myocardial IR injury. SLC26A4 is a Na+ independent anion reverse transporter and has not been reported in myocardial IR injury. Objectives: To find potential genes that may be regulated by EA and explore the role of this gene in myocardial IR injury. Methods: RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were performed to obtain the differentially expressed genes in the myocardial tissue of IR rats with EA pretreatment. Myocardial infarction size was detected by TTC staining. Serum CK,… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), a type of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), is the most common malignancy worldwide. Thioredoxin (TXN) domain-containing protein 9 (TXNDC9) is a member of the TXN family that is important in cell differentiation. However, the biological function of this protein in cancer, particularly cSCC, is still unknown. In the present study, our experiments revealed the protective effects of TXNDC9 on UV-B-irritated cSCC cells. The initial findings showed that TXNDC9 is significantly upregulated in cSCC tissue and cells compared to normal skin tissue and keratinocytes. UV-B radiation robustly induces the expression of More >

Abstract Schisandrin B (Sch B) is a monomer with anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects, which are isolated from the plant Schisandra chinensis (Turcz) Baillon. We investigated the anti-gastric cancer (GC) effects of Sch B and its underlying molecular mechanisms. The Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to determine the effects of Sch B on the viability of GC and normal cell lines. Hoechst/propidium iodide staining and flow cytometry were used to assess the apoptosis induction of Sch B. Western blotting was used to evaluate the effects of Sch B on downstream apoptotic proteins. The DCFH-DA fluorescent probe was… More >

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 11-19, 2021, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2021.014071 - 26 January 2021

Abstract The cornea is a load-bearing tissue. Lower biomechanical properties in the local tissue of keratoconic cornea evoke mechanical stress increase. Inflammatory cytokines have been shown to be over-expressed in patients with keratoconus. However, how mechanical stimuli are involved in the production of inflammatory cytokines in keratoconus remains unclear. The objective of the study is to determine the role of mechanical stretch in the regulation of inflammatory cytokines and the underlying mechanisms in keratoconus. Human keratoconic fibroblasts (hKCFs) were subjected to 12% cyclic mechanical stretch at 0.1 Hz or in static conditions as controls. N-acetyl cysteine… More >

Abstract Gamma ray can promote cancer cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. It is often used in the clinical treatment of tumors, including lung cancer. In this study, we aimed to explore the role of gamma ray treatment and its correlation with BTG2 in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest regulation in a lung cancer cell line. A549 cell viability, apoptosis rate, and cell cycle were investigated after gamma ray treatment. We then used siRNA for BTG2 to detect the effect of BTG2 knockdown on the progress of gamma ray-treated lung cancer cells. Finally, we… More >

3-Phosphoinositide Dependent Protein Kinase-1 (PDK-1) Promotes Migration and Invasion in Gastric Cancer Cells Through Activating the NF-κB Pathway

Ning Wu*, Changyu He, Bohui Zhu*, Jinling Jiang, Yiwen Chen*, Tao Ma

    Oncology Research, Vol.25, No.7, pp. 1153-1159, 2017, DOI:10.3727/096504017X14845839228545

Abstract Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common cancers and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the world. Many factors have been reported regarding the progression and development of GC. In this study, we aimed to investigate the correlation of 3-phosphoinositide dependent protein kinase-1 (PDK-1) with cell viability, migration, and invasion of GC. The expression of PDK-1 was measured in different GC cell lines. Thereafter, the expression of PDK-1 was interfered by small hairpin RNA (shRNA) and then incubated with or without the inhibitor of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC). We… More >
