    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 403-413, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.044801

Abstract The global incidence of lung cancer is marked by a considerably elevated mortality rate. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) exert pivotal influence in the intricate orchestration of gene regulation, and their dysregulation can precipitate dire consequences, notably cancer. Within this context, miRNAs encapsulated in exosomes manifest a diversified impact on the landscape of lung cancer, wherein their actions may either foster angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and metastasis, or counteract these processes. This comprehensive review article discerns potential targets for the prospective development of therapeutic agents tailored for lung cancer. Tumor-suppressive miRNAs, such as miR-204, miR-192, miR-30a, miR-34a, miR-34b, miR-203, and miR-212, exhibit heightened expression… More >

    YUANYUAN XU, XIAOKE CHEN*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.3, pp. 517-528, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030293

Abstract Background: The aberrant intracellular expression of a mitochondrial aspartyl-tRNA synthetase 2 (DARS2) has been reported in human cancers. Nevertheless, its critical role and detailed mechanism in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remain unexplored. Methods: Initially, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-based Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) database () was used to analyze the prognostic relevance of DARS2 expression in LUAD. Further, cell counting kit (CCK)-8, immunostaining, and transwell invasion assays in LUAD cell lines in vitro, as well as DARS2 silence on LUAD by tumorigenicity experiments in vivo in nude mice, were performed. Besides, we analyzed the expression levels of p-PI3K (phosphorylated-Phosphotylinosital3… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.6, pp. 269-276, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.027277

Abstract Background: MicroRNAs (miRs) are small (19–25 nucleotides), non-protein coding RNAs that regulate gene expression, and thus play essential roles in cell cycle progression. The evidence has demonstrated that the expression of several miRs is dysregulated in human cancer. Methods: The study includes 179 female patients and 58 healthy women Patients were identified as luminal A, B, Her-2/neu, and basal-like, as well as classified into I, II, and III stages. Analysis of the expression fold change of miR-21 and miR-34a with molecular markers, including the oncogene Bcl-2 (B-cell lymphoma 2) and the tumor suppressor genes BRCA1 (breast cancer susceptibility gene 1),… More >

The microRNA pathway activation in insect cell model upon Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus infection

    QIAOJIN JIA1,2, YUEJUN FU1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.3, pp. 627-645, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.026182

Abstract Background: The immune system of insects exerts fundamentally different antiviral mechanisms than mammals. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play vital roles in developing insect antiviral immunity. MiRNAs expression profiles of insects changed significantly during baculovirus infection. Methods: Differential expression profiles of miRNAs in Spodoptera frugiperda were monitored by next-generation sequencing (NGS) and RT-qPCR during Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) infection. The transcription levels of genes were detected by RT-qPCR. The 50% tissue culture infective dose (TCID50) endpoint dilution assay was used to determine the proliferation of progeny virus. Results: NGS revealed that 49 miRNAs were differentially expressed in Sf9 cells, and 10 of… More >

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 371-411, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.024035

Abstract Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases with a cure far from being found. Despite the extraordinary advances in the therapy approaches, only a few patients respond to treatments. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in cancer progression by contributing to the chemoresistance. Thus, emerging efforts are being made in nanotechnology research focusing on nanoparticles’ potential role and their application in immune system modulation. Moreover, the omics have contributed to bioengineering and nanotechnology development by elucidating the mechanisms of cancer and specific biomarkers that could be used as new therapeutic targets. Furthermore, the non-coding microRNA as a target… More >

MicroRNA-338-3p Inhibits Proliferation and Promotes Apoptosis of Multiple Myeloma Cells Through Targeting Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 4

Yang Cao*, Xu Shi, Yingmin Liu, Ren Xu§, Qing Ai*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 117-124, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15213031799835

Abstract MicroRNA-338-3p (miR-338-3p) has been reported to be a tumor suppressor in multiple cancer types. However, the biological role of miR-338-3p and its underlying mechanism in multiple myeloma (MM) remain unclear. In the present study, we investigated the biological role and potential of miR-338-3p in MM. We found that miR-338-3p was significantly decreased in newly diagnosed and relapsed MM tissues and cell lines. Overexpression of miR-338-3p in MM cells significantly inhibited proliferation and promoted apoptosis, caspase 3, and caspase 8 activity. Bioinformatics algorithm analysis predicted that cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) was a direct target of miR-338-3p, and this was experimentally verified… More >

Xin Chen*, Mingzhe Li, Hongwei Zhou*, Li Zhang*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 431-437, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15201058168730

Abstract MicroRNA-132 (miR-132) has been demonstrated to be a tumor suppressor in several types of tumors. However, the expression and the role of miR-132 in human thyroid cancer are still poorly understood. The aim of the present study was to examine the potential roles and molecular mechanism of miR-132 in thyroid cancer. We found that miR-132 expression levels were significantly downregulated in thyroid cancer tissues and cell lines. Function assays showed that overexpression of miR-132 in TPC1 cells inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Forkhead box protein A1 (FOXA1) was identified as a direct target of miR-132 in thyroid cancer cells.… More >

MicroRNA-139-5p Inhibits Cell Proliferation and Invasion by Targeting RHO-Associated Coiled-Coil-Containing Protein Kinase 2 in Ovarian Cancer

Yanli Wang*, Jia Li, Chunling Xu, Xiaomeng Zhang

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.7-8, pp. 823-825, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504021X16240202940021

Abstract Increasing evidence indicates that the dysregulation of microRNAs is associated with the development and progression of various cancers. MicroRNA-139-5p (miR-139-5p) has been reported to have a tumor suppressive role in many types of cancers. The role of miR-139-5p in ovarian cancer (OC) is poorly understood. The purpose of the present study was to explore the expression of miR-139-5p and its function in OC. The results showed that miR-139-5p expression was markedly downregulated in OC tissues and cell lines. In addition, underexpression of miR-139-5p was significantly associated with FIGO stage, lymph mode metastasis, and poor overall survival of OC patients. Functional… More >
