Quantifying Uncertainty in Dielectric Solids’ Mechanical Properties Using Isogeometric Analysis and Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks

    Shuai Li1, Xiaodong Zhao1,2,*, Jinghu Zhou1, Xiyue Wang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.3, pp. 2587-2611, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.052203

Abstract Accurate quantification of the uncertainty in the mechanical characteristics of dielectric solids is crucial for advancing their application in high-precision technological domains, necessitating the development of robust computational methods. This paper introduces a Conditional Generation Adversarial Network Isogeometric Analysis (CGAN-IGA) to assess the uncertainty of dielectric solids’ mechanical characteristics. IGA is utilized for the precise computation of electric potentials in dielectric, piezoelectric, and flexoelectric materials, leveraging its advantage of integrating seamlessly with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models to maintain exact geometrical fidelity. The CGAN method is highly efficient in generating models for piezoelectric and flexoelectric materials, More >

    Miloš Gligorić1,*, Zoran Gligorić1, Saša Jovanović2, Suzana Lutovac1, Dragan Pamučar3,4, Ivan Janković1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.3, pp. 2635-2664, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.050898

Abstract Assessment of rock mass quality significantly impacts the design and construction of underground and open-pit mines from the point of stability and economy. This study develops the novel Gromov-Hausdorff distance for rock quality (GHDQR) methodology for rock mass quality rating based on multi-criteria grey metric space. It usually presents the quality of surrounding rock by classes (metric spaces) with specified properties and adequate interval-grey numbers. Measuring the distance between surrounding rock sample characteristics and existing classes represents the core of this study. The Gromov-Hausdorff distance is an especially useful discriminant function, i.e., a classifier to… More >

    Qusay M. Salih1,2,*, Md. Arafatur Rahman3, Ahmad Firdaus1, Mohammed Rajih Jassim4, Hasan Kahtan5, Jasni Mohamad Zain6, Ahmed Hussein Ali7

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.3, pp. 2165-2206, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.028132

Abstract The race to develop the next generation of wireless networks, known as Sixth Generation (6G) wireless, which will be operational in 2030, has already begun. To realize its full potential over the next decade, 6G will undoubtedly necessitate additional improvements that integrate existing solutions with cutting-edge ones. However, the studies about 6G are mainly limited and scattered, whereas no bibliometric study covers the 6G field. Thus, this study aims to review, examine, and summarize existing studies and research activities in 6G. Oscillatory Dynamics of a Spherical Solid in a Liquid in an Axisymmetric Variable Cross Section Channel

    Ivan Karpunin*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.6, pp. 1219-1232, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.051062

Abstract The dynamics of a solid spherical body in an oscillating liquid flow in a vertical axisymmetric channel of variable cross section is experimentally studied. It is shown that the oscillating liquid leads to the generation of intense averaged flows in each of the channel segments. The intensity and direction of these flows depend on the dimensionless oscillating frequency. In the region of studied frequencies, the dynamics of the considered body is examined when the primary vortices emerging in the flow occupy the whole region in each segment. For a fixed frequency, an increase in the… More >

A Harmonic Approach to Handwriting Style Synthesis Using Deep Learning

Mahatir Ahmed Tusher1, Saket Choudary Kongara1, Sagar Dhanraj Pande2, SeongKi Kim3,*, Salil Bharany4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.3, pp. 4063-4080, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.049007

Abstract The challenging task of handwriting style synthesis requires capturing the individuality and diversity of human handwriting. The majority of currently available methods use either a generative adversarial network (GAN) or a recurrent neural network (RNN) to generate new handwriting styles. This is why these techniques frequently fall short of producing diverse and realistic text pictures, particularly for terms that are not commonly used. To resolve that, this research proposes a novel deep learning model that consists of a style encoder and a text generator to synthesize different handwriting styles. This network excels in generating conditional… More >

Knowledge Mapping of Hybrid Solar PV and Wind Energy Standalone Systems: A Bibliometric Analysis

    Quan Zhou*, Haiyang Li

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.7, pp. 1781-1803, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049387

Abstract Renewable energy is becoming more attractive as traditional fossil fuels are rapidly depleted and expensive, and their use would release pollutants. Power systems that use both wind and solar energy are more reliable and efficient than those that utilize only one energy. Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) are viable for remote areas operating in standalone mode. This paper aims to present the state-of-the-art research on off-grid solar-wind hybrid energy systems over the last two decades. More than 1500 published articles extracted from the Web of Science are analyzed by bibliometric methods and processed by CiteSpace… More >

New Definitions of the Isometric Latitude and the Mercator Projection

    Miljenko Lapaine*

    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.33, pp. 155-165, 2024, DOI:10.32604/rig.2024.052258

Abstract The short communication discusses the interrelationships of loxodromes, isometric latitudes and the normal aspect of Mercator projection. It is shown that by applying the isometric latitude, a very simple equation of the loxodrome on the sphere is reached. The consequence of this is that the isometric latitude can be defined using the generalized longitude, and not only using the latitude, as was common until now. Generalized longitude is the longitude defined for every real number; modulo 2π of generalized and usual longitude are congruent. Since the image of the loxodrome in the plane of the… More > Graphic Abstract
