Associations of Domain and Pattern of Sedentary Behaviors with Symptoms of Mental Disorders in Saudi Adults: ‘The Sedentary Behavior Paradox’

    Abdullah B. Alansare*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 11-20, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.044656 - 05 February 2024

Abstract Emerging evidence suggests the existence of ‘paradoxical’ relationships between domain-specific sedentary behavior (SB) and health outcomes. This study assessed the associations of total and domain-specific SB, by pattern, with symptoms of mental disorders in Saudi adults. Participants (n = 554) completed a web-based survey between January 18th, 2023 and February 5th, 2023. Total SB was measured by using the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire. Total SB was then partitioned into leisure, occupational, and commuting SB during weekdays and on weekend days. Symptoms of mental disorders including symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress were evaluated by using the… More >

The Relationship between Mental Disorders and Personality of Outpatients in a Psychiatric Clinic in Nanjing, China

    Yiteng Zang1, Biyun Xu2, Sizhen Chen1, Grace Mutale1, Qiuyun Cao3,*, Bingwei Chen1,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.12, pp. 1287-1302, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.042584 - 29 December 2023

Abstract Psychosis has increasingly become a social problem, emphasizing the need to understand the relationship between mental disorders and personality. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between mental disorders and personality among psychiatric outpatients based on real-world data. Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) were used to evaluate the personality and psychopathological symptoms of patients (n = 8409) in the Psychiatric Outpatient Department at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. t-test was used to compare scores between patients and national norms. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and path analysis were used to explore the relationship between mental… More >

Network biology: A promising approach for drug target identification against neurodevelopmental disorders

WAYEZ NAQVI, ANANYA SINGH, PREKSHI GARG, PRACHI SRIVASTAVA*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.8, pp. 1675-1687, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029624 - 28 August 2023

Abstract Biological entities are involved in complicated and complex connections; hence, discovering biological information using network biology ideas is critical. In the past few years, network biology has emerged as an integrative and systems-level approach for understanding and interpreting these complex interactions. Biological network analysis is one method for reducing enormous data sets to clinically useful knowledge for disease diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. The network of biological entities can help us predict drug targets for several diseases. The drug targets identified through the systems biology approach help in targeting the essential biological pathways that contribute to More >

Nonprecsion (Standard) Psychosocial Interventions for the Treatment of Mental Disorders

    Alan E. Kazdin*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 457-473, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.022522 - 27 May 2022

Abstract Advances in precision treatment promise to greatly improve the extent to which therapies for mental disorders are better matched to patient characteristics. At the same, we need to ensure that more readily disseminable and available nonprecison treatments are further developed as well. These treatments refer to standardized interventions that do not have to be individualized and are more readily available. Impetus for this call stems from the treatment gap, namely, the huge difference in the proportion of individuals who are in need of mental health services and who actually receive any form of treatment. Mental Health Literacy of University Students in Vietnam and Cambodia

    Anja Dessauvagie1, Hoang-Minh Dang2, Tuyet Truong3, Thu Nguyen4, Bich Hong Nguyen5, Huong Cao6, Socheata Kim7, Gunter Groen1,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 439-456, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.018030 - 17 March 2022

Abstract Mental health literacy (MHL) refers to knowledge and attitudes that shape the recognition, management, and prevention of mental disorders. While the topic has been exhaustively researched in Western countries, research from Southeast Asia still is limited. Previous studies in this field showed a moderate recognition of mental disorders, a high prevalence of stigmatizing attitudes and a low willingness to seek professional help among Southeastern-Asian populations. This study explored the level of MHL among university students from different parts of Vietnam and Cambodia. Correlations with influencing factors (gender, age, study year, educational attainment of the parents,… More >

Modeling of Explainable Artificial Intelligence for Biomedical Mental Disorder Diagnosis

    Anwer Mustafa Hilal1, Imène ISSAOUI2, Marwa Obayya3, Fahd N. Al-Wesabi4, Nadhem NEMRI5, Manar Ahmed Hamza1,*, Mesfer Al Duhayyim6, Abu Sarwar Zamani1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 3853-3867, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022663 - 07 December 2021

Abstract The abundant existence of both structured and unstructured data and rapid advancement of statistical models stressed the importance of introducing Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), a process that explains how prediction is done in AI models. Biomedical mental disorder, i.e., Autism Spectral Disorder (ASD) needs to be identified and classified at early stage itself in order to reduce health crisis. With this background, the current paper presents XAI-based ASD diagnosis (XAI-ASD) model to detect and classify ASD precisely. The proposed XAI-ASD technique involves the design of Bacterial Foraging Optimization (BFO)-based Feature Selection (FS) technique. In addition, More >

Impact of War Related Mental Disorders on Partners

    Batool Mousavi1,*, Marziye Asgari2, Mohammadreza Soroush2, Reza Amini3, Ali Montazeri4

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 11-17, 2020, DOI:10.32604/IJMHP.2020.010901

Abstract Mental disorders tend to be highly prevalent in war survivors. This paper examined the long-term impact of psychiatric disorders of war survivors on the level of health vulnerability among their female spouses. Interviews were conducted with a nationally representative sample of 653 of the partners of male war survivors with disabilities. The war survivors’ database information used to determine the presence of psychiatric disorders. Then the partners of survivors with (N = 333) and without (N = 320) psychological disorders were assessed via the health-related quality of life (HRQOL-SF36) questionnaire. The frequency of depression and… More >
