Recent Techniques for Harvesting Energy from the Human Body

    Nidal M. Turab1, Hamza Abu Owida2, Jamal I. Al-Nabulsi2,*, Mwaffaq Abu-Alhaija1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 167-177, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.017973 - 26 August 2021

Abstract The human body contains a near-infinite supply of energy in chemical, thermal, and mechanical forms. However, the majority of implantable and wearable devices are still operated by batteries, whose insufficient capacity and large size limit their lifespan and increase the risk of hazardous material leakage. Such energy can be used to exceed the battery power limits of implantable and wearable devices. Moreover, novel materials and fabrication methods can be used to create various medical therapies and life-enhancing technologies. This review paper focuses on energy-harvesting technologies used in medical and health applications, primarily power collectors from More >

Optimization of Bio-Implantable Power Transmission Efficiency Based on Input Impedance

    Bassm H. Abed1, Jaber H. Majeed1,*, Najma Abed Habeeb2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.38, No.1, pp. 17-24, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015544 - 01 April 2021

Abstract Recently, the inductive coupling link is the most robust method for powering implanted biomedical devices, such as micro-system stimulators, cochlear implants, and retinal implants. This research provides a novel theoretical and mathematical analysis to optimize the inductive coupling link efficiency driven by efficient proposed class-E power amplifiers using high and optimum input impedance. The design of the coupling link is based on two pairs of aligned, single-layer, planar spiral circular coils with a proposed geometric dimension, operating at a resonant frequency of 13.56 MHz. Both transmitter and receiver coils are small in size. Implanted device More >

Integrity Assessment of Medical Devices for Improving Hospital Services

    Fahad A. Alzahrani1, Masood Ahmad2, Mohd Nadeem2, Rajeev Kumar2,3,*, Raees Ahmad Khan2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3619-3633, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014869 - 01 March 2021

Abstract The present study examines the various techniques being used to maintain the integrity of the medical devices, and develops a quantitative framework to list these in the sequence of priority. To achieve the intended objective, the study employs the combined procedure of Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (ANP) and Fuzzy Technical for Order Preference by Similarities to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). We selected fuzzy based decision making techniques for assessing the integrity of medical devices. The suggested methodology was then used for classifying the suitable techniques used to evaluate the integrity of medical devices. Different techniques or… More >

Unified Computational Modelling for Healthcare Device Security Assessment

    Shakeel Ahmed*, Abdulaziz Alhumam

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 1-18, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015775 - 05 February 2021

Abstract This article evaluates the security techniques that are used to maintain the healthcare devices, and proposes a mathematical model to list these in the order of priority and preference. To accomplish the stated objective, the article uses the Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (ANP) integrated with Technical for Order Preference by Similarities to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to find the suitable alternatives of the security techniques for securing the healthcare devices from trespassing. The methodology is enlisted to rank the alternatives/ techniques based on their weights’ satisfaction degree. Thereafter, the ranks of the alternatives determine the order More >
