Plant Extracts as Biostimulant Agents: A Promising Strategy for Managing Environmental Stress in Sustainable Agriculture

    Mingzhao Han1, Susilawati Kasim1,*, Zhongming Yang2, Xi Deng2, Noor Baity Saidi3, Md Kamal Uddin1, Effyanti Mohd Shuib1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.9, pp. 2149-2166, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.054009 - 30 September 2024

Abstract It is imperative to enhance crop yield to meet the demands of a burgeoning global population while simultaneously safeguarding the environment from adverse impacts, which is one of the dominant challenges confronting humanity in this phase of global climate change. To overcome this problem and reduce dependency on chemical fertilizer, scientists now view the implementation of biostimulant strategies as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach to achieving sustainable agriculture. Plant extracts are rich in bioactive phytocompounds, which can enhance plant resistance to disease, pest, and abiotic stresses (e.g., drought, salinity, and extreme temperature), and promote… More >

Evaluation of combined detection of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 and glutathione peroxidase 4 in primary hepatic carcinoma and preliminary exploration of pathogenesis

JIE DUAN, AIDONG GU*, WEI CHEN, CHANGHAO CHEN, FANGNAN SONG, FAXI CHEN, FANGFANG JIANG, HUIWEN XING

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.12, pp. 2609-2615, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.042472 - 27 December 2023

Abstract Objective: This study aims to analyze the clinical significance and mechanism of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) in primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC). Methods: The expression of NRF2 and GPX4 in peripheral blood of patients with PHC was determined to analyze the diagnostic value of the two combined for PHC. The prognostic significance of NRF2 and GPX4 was evaluated by 3-year follow-up. Human liver epithelial cells THLE-2 and human hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG2 were purchased, and the expression of NRF2 and GPX4 in the cells was determined. NRF2 and GPX4… More > Graphic Abstract

Formation Mechanism and Occurrence Law of Pod Shattering in Soybean: A Review

    Jinfeng Liu1, Yuzhe Zhang1, Yushi Jiang1, Hongji Sun1, Ruijie Duan1, Jing Qu2, Dan Yao1, Siyan Liu2,*, Shuyan Guan2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.7, pp. 1327-1340, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019870 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Seed shattering refers to the phenomenon in which the pods split along the abdominal and back sutures before the crop is received, so that the seeds are spread. Seed shattering is vital to the reproduction of their offspring in wild plants, but it is also the main cause of crop yield loss reason. Pod-explosion resistance is a complex process of physical and physiological and biochemical reactions. Soybean seed shattering phenomenon is widespread, which severely restricts the development of soybean industry. Seed shattering (pod cracking or fruit dropping) is essential for the reproduction of its offspring… More >
