    Sarah M. Alhammad1, Doaa Sami Khafaga1,*, Aya Y. Hamed2, Osama El-Koumy3, Ehab R. Mohamed3, Khalid M. Hosny3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.3, pp. 2939-2952, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.041011 - 09 November 2023

Abstract Face mask detection has several applications, including real-time surveillance, biometrics, etc. Identifying face masks is also helpful for crowd control and ensuring people wear them publicly. With monitoring personnel, it is impossible to ensure that people wear face masks; automated systems are a much superior option for face mask detection and monitoring. This paper introduces a simple and efficient approach for masked face detection. The architecture of the proposed approach is very straightforward; it combines deep learning and local binary patterns to extract features and classify them as masked or unmasked. The proposed system requires… More >

    Abdullah S. AL-Malaise AL-Ghamdi1,2,3, Sultanah M. Alshammari3,4, Mahmoud Ragab3,5,6,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 1863-1877, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.035869 - 09 February 2023

Abstract Notwithstanding the religious intention of billions of devotees, the religious mass gathering increased major public health concerns since it likely became a huge super spreading event for the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Most attendees ignored preventive measures, namely maintaining physical distance, practising hand hygiene, and wearing facemasks. Wearing a face mask in public areas protects people from spreading COVID-19. Artificial intelligence (AI) based on deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) could assist in fighting covid-19 in several ways. This study introduces a new deep learning-based Face Mask Detection in Religious Mass… More >

Meherab Mamun Ratul, Kazi Ayesha Rahman, Javeria Fazal, Naimur Rahman Abanto, Riasat Khan*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 3641-3658, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.030638 - 17 August 2022

Abstract The coronavirus (COVID-19) is a lethal virus causing a rapidly infectious disease throughout the globe. Spreading awareness, taking preventive measures, imposing strict restrictions on public gatherings, wearing facial masks, and maintaining safe social distancing have become crucial factors in keeping the virus at bay. Even though the world has spent a whole year preventing and curing the disease caused by the COVID-19 virus, the statistics show that the virus can cause an outbreak at any time on a large scale if thorough preventive measures are not maintained accordingly. To fight the spread of this virus,… More >

Face Mask Recognition for Covid-19 Prevention

Trong Hieu Luu1, Phan Nguyen Ky Phuc2,*, Zhiqiu Yu3, Duy Dung Pham1, Huu Trong Cao1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 3251-3262, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029663 - 16 June 2022

Abstract In recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted all aspects of social life. Due to ease in the infected method, i.e., through small liquid particles from the mouth or the nose when people cough, sneeze, speak, sing, or breathe, the virus can quickly spread and create severe problems for people’s health. According to some research as well as World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation, one of the most economical and effective methods to prevent the spread of the pandemic is to ask people to wear the face mask in the public space. A face mask… More >

Automatic Real-Time Medical Mask Detection Using Deep Learning to Fight COVID-19

Mohammad Khalid Imam Rahmani1, Fahmina Taranum2, Reshma Nikhat3, Md. Rashid Farooqi3, Mohammed Arshad Khan4,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.3, pp. 1181-1198, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022014 - 08 February 2022

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic is a virus that has disastrous effects on human lives globally; still spreading like wildfire causing huge losses to humanity and economies. There is a need to follow few constraints like social distancing norms, personal hygiene, and masking up to effectively control the virus spread. The proposal is to detect the face frame and confirm the faces are properly covered with masks. By applying the concepts of Deep learning, the results obtained for mask detection are found to be effective. The system is trained using 4500 images to accurately judge and justify… More >

    Maha Farouk S. Sabir1, Irfan Mehmood2,*, Wafaa Adnan Alsaggaf3, Enas Fawai Khairullah3, Samar Alhuraiji4, Ahmed S. Alghamdi5, Ahmed A. Abd El-Latif6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 4151-4166, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017865 - 07 December 2021

Abstract Today, due to the pandemic of COVID-19 the entire world is facing a serious health crisis. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people in public places should wear a face mask to control the rapid transmission of COVID-19. The governmental bodies of different countries imposed that wearing a face mask is compulsory in public places. Therefore, it is very difficult to manually monitor people in overcrowded areas. This research focuses on providing a solution to enforce one of the important preventative measures of COVID-19 in public places, by presenting an automated system that automatically… More >

A Framework for Mask-Wearing Recognition in Complex Scenes for Different Face Sizes

Hanan A. Hosni Mahmoud, Amal H. Alharbi, Norah S. Alghamdi*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 1153-1165, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.022359 - 17 November 2021

Abstract People are required to wear masks in many countries, now a days with the Covid-19 pandemic. Automated mask detection is very crucial to help identify people who do not wear masks. Other important applications is for surveillance issues to be able to detect concealed faces that might be a safety threat. However, automated mask wearing detection might be difficult in complex scenes such as hospitals and shopping malls where many people are at present. In this paper, we present analysis of several detection techniques and their performances. We are facing different face sizes and orientation,… More >

Abstract COVID-19 pandemic outbreak became one of the serious threats to humans. As there is no cure yet for this virus, we have to control the spread of Coronavirus through precautions. One of the effective precautions as announced by the World Health Organization is mask wearing. Surveillance systems in crowded places can lead to detection of people wearing masks. Therefore, it is highly urgent for computerized mask detection methods that can operate in real-time. As for now, most countries demand mask-wearing in public places to avoid the spreading of this virus. In this paper, we are… More >

Abstract Effective strategies to control COVID-19 pandemic need high attention to mitigate negatively impacted communal health and global economy, with the brim-full horizon yet to unfold. In the absence of effective antiviral and limited medical resources, many measures are recommended by WHO to control the infection rate and avoid exhausting the limited medical resources. Wearing mask is among the non-pharmaceutical intervention measures that can be used as barrier to primary route of SARS-CoV2 droplets expelled by presymptomatic or asymptomatic individuals. Regardless of discourse on medical resources and diversities in masks, all countries are mandating coverings over… More >
