Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics Simulation of Ship Motion and Tank Sloshing under the Effect of Regular Waves

    Mingming Zhao, Jialong Jiao*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.5, pp. 1045-1061, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.043744 - 07 June 2024

Abstract Predicting the response of liquefied natural gas (LNG) contained in vessels subjected to external waves is extremely important to ensure the safety of the transportation process. In this study, the coupled behavior due to ship motion and liquid tank sloshing has been simulated by the Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. Firstly, the sloshing flow in a rectangular tank was simulated and the related loads were analyzed to verify and validate the accuracy of the present SPH solver. Then, a three-dimensional simplified LNG carrier model, including two prismatic liquid tanks and a wave tank, was introduced. Different More >

Numerical Studies on Thermal and Hydrodynamic Characteristics of LNG in Helically Coiled Tube-in-Tube Heat Exchangers

Fayi Yan*, Xuejian Pei, He Lu, Shuzhen Zong

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 287-304, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.045038 - 21 March 2024

Abstract As compact and efficient heat exchange equipment, helically coiled tube-in-tube heat exchangers (HCTT heat exchangers) are widely used in many industrial processes. However, the thermal-hydraulic research of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the working fluid in HCTT heat exchangers is rarely reported. In this paper, the characteristics of HCTT heat exchangers, in which LNG flows in the inner tube and ethylene glycol-water solution flows in the outer tube, are studied by numerical simulations. The influences of heat transfer characteristics and pressure drops of the HCTT heat transfers are studied by changing the initial flow velocity,… More >

Analysis and Economic Evaluation of Hourly Operation Strategy Based on MSW Classification and LNG Multi-Generation System

Xueqing Lu, Yuetao Shi*, Jinsong Li

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.6, pp. 1325-1352, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.026142 - 03 April 2023

Abstract In this study, a model of combined cooling, heating and power system with municipal solid waste (MSW) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as energy sources was proposed and developed based on the energy demand of a large community, and MSW was classified and utilized. The system operated by determining power by heating load, and measures were taken to reduce operating costs by purchasing and selling LNG, natural gas (NG), cooling, heating, and power. Based on this system model, three operation strategies were proposed based on whether MSW was classified and the length of kitchen waste… More > Graphic Abstract

    Shi-er Dong1, Yiqing He1,*, Jingya Dong2, Zhouyu Peng3, Guohua Fu3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.1, pp. 103-118, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.012362 - 17 November 2020

Abstract Based on the analysis of the whole process of LNG spill on land, the research methods of LNG pool expansion and heavy gas diffusion are summarized and analyzed. This paper reviews the experimental and analytical work performed to data on spill of LNG. Specifically, experiments on the spill of LNG onshore, as well as experiments and numerical study on heavy gas dispersion. Pool boiling and turbulence model are described and discussed, as well as models used to predict dispersion. Although there have been significant progress in understanding the behavior of LNG spills, technical knowledge gaps More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-5, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.2

Abstract In order to select economical and reasonable Boil-off gas (BOG) treatment technology for different types of liquefied natural gas (LNG) stations, this paper introduces the related technologies of BOG treatment without LNG Output. Using the same working fluid and operating parameters to simulate then the six technologies of pulse tube cryocooler recovery, liquid nitrogen recovery, nitrogen expansion recovery, jet refrigeration recovery, mixed refrigerant refrigeration recovery, and direct compression process were compared in terms of power consumption, economy. On the basis of comparative analysis of power consumption, the actual usage of the above process, and with More >

    X.H. Du, X.P. Shen

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 81-82, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.081

Abstract Aim of this paper is to simulate the fluid-structure interaction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) prestressed storage tank under seismic influence. The coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analysis technique is used to simulate the hydrodynamic interaction between LNG and the cylinder of LNG prestressed storage tank. The 3-D model of LNG has been dispersed by Eulerian mesh which is different from traditional added mass analysis method. Meanwhile, both of the 3-D models of prestressed rebar and concrete structure are dispersed by Lagrangian mesh. Following conclusions are obtained: 1) Natural frequency of the whole model has been obtained… More >

Abstract Aim of this paper is to estimate the integrity of liquefied natural gas (LNG) prestressed storage tank under seismic influence. The coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analysis technique is used to simulate the fluid-structure interaction between LNG and the cylinder of LNG prestressed storage tank. The 3-D model of LNG has been dispersed by Eulerian mesh that is different from traditional analysis method which is called the added mass method. Meanwhile, both of the 3-D models of prestressed rebar and concrete structure are dispersed by Lagrangian mesh. Following conclusions are obtained: 1) Natural frequency of the whole… More >
