Bioinformatic analysis and in vivo validation of angiogenesis related genes in inflammatory bowel disease

ZEPENG DONG, CHENYE ZHAO, SHIBO HU, KUI YANG, JUNHUI YU*, XUEJUN SUN, JIANBAO ZHENG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.12, pp. 2735-2745, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.043422 - 27 December 2023

Abstract Objectives: Angiogenesis plays a significant role in the occurrence and development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of this study is to explore potential angiogenesis related genes (ARGs) in IBD through bioinformatics analysis and in vivo experiments. Methods: GSE57945, GSE87466, and GSE36807 were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. GSE57945 was used as the training set, while GSE87466 and GSE36807 were used as the validation set. The key ARGs associated with IBD were identified using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and random forest methods. These identified ARGs were then utilized to construct… More >

    Abstract

Curcumin, a natural product, has exhibited promising effects in both animal models and clinical trials, interacting with a multitude of factors linked to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). These factors encompass cytokines, oxidative stress-associated enzymes, and modulation of the intestinal microbiota. Notably, curcumin has demonstrated therapeutic potential in animal models of colitis, wherein it exerts a negative regulatory influence on pivotal signaling pathways such as PI3/Akt, JAK/STAT, and β-catenin. Moreover, it inhibits the expression of pro-inflammatory enzymes and co-stimulatory molecules (including RANKL, ICAM-1, CD205, CD256, TLR4, among others), while curbing immune cell chemotaxis, thereby attenuating the characteristic

Abstract Throughout its duration, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been affecting lives worldwide and has had a sizeable impact on mental health, particularly for those who already suffer from a chronic illnesses. Depression, Anxiety and Stress (DAS) are common psychiatric comorbidities in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. This study aims to determine the prevalence and risk factors for moderate and severe symptoms of DAS in IBD patients have been undergoing intravenous biological therapy (IvBTh) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was conducted between September 1st and November 30th, 2020 at the Clinical Center of Montenegro-IBD… More >

    Abstract

The roots of the vegetal Curcuma due to its high content of polyphenols, has been used successfully in several clinical situations. This review assessed the effect of curcumin/Curcuma longa on symptoms and metabolic changes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A systematic review of animal models and randomized clinical trials (RCTs) was conducted by searching the following electronic databases: PubMed, CENTRAL, LILACS, Science Direct, and ClinicalTrials.gov. From 997 found records, 62 were included. More than 90% of the animal studies reported an improvement in macroscopic, histologic and/or functional activity; 80% identified decreased oxidative and/or inflammatory biomarkers in

Extraintestinal manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease, nitroxidative stress and dysbiosis: What is the link between them?

AMYLLY SANUELLY DA PAZ MARTINS1, SAMARA BOMFIM GOMES CAMPOS2, MARÍLIA OLIVEIRA FONSECA GOULART1,2,3, FABIANA ANDRÉA MOURA4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.3, pp. 461-481, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014332 - 03 March 2021

Abstract Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, has a not yet completely defined aetiology and is characterized by a progressive chronic inflammation that involves nitroxidative stress and dysbiosis. Extraintestinal manifestations can occur and affect several organs, including the liver and bile ducts, joints, skin, eyes, and less frequently, the heart, brain, and kidneys, increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality. These repercussions may be associated with the activity or severity of IBD. The present review proposes to report and analyse the participation of dysbiosis and nitroxidative stress in the genesis of More >
