    Hong Zhang1,*, Qi Wang1, Lixing Chen1, Jiaming Zhou1, Haijian Shao2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1867-1883, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028453 - 05 June 2023

Abstract Induction motors (IMs) typically fail due to the rate of stator short-circuits. Because of the similarity of the thermal images produced by various instances of short-circuit and the minor interclass distinctions between categories, non-destructive fault detection is universally perceived as a difficult issue. This paper adopts the deep learning model combined with feature fusion methods based on the image’s low-level features with higher resolution and more position and details and high-level features with more semantic information to develop a high-accuracy classification-detection approach for the fault diagnosis of IMs. Based on the publicly available thermal images More > Graphic Abstract

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 6263-6287, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033027 - 28 December 2022

Abstract Vector control schemes have recently been used to drive linear induction motors (LIM) in high-performance applications. This trend promotes the development of precise and efficient control schemes for individual motors. This research aims to present a novel framework for speed and thrust force control of LIM using space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) inverters. The framework under consideration is developed in four stages. To begin, MATLAB Simulink was used to develop a detailed mathematical and electromechanical dynamic model. The research presents a modified SVPWM inverter control scheme. By tuning the proportional-integral (PI) controller with a… More >

Improved Clamped Diode Based Z-Source Network for Three Phase Induction Motor

    D. Bensiker Raja Singh1,*, R. Suja Mani Malar2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 683-702, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.028492 - 29 September 2022

Abstract The 3Φ induction motor is a broadly used electric machine in industrial applications, which plays a vital role in industries because of having plenty of beneficial impacts like low cost and easiness but the problems like decrease in motor speed due to load, high consumption of current and high ripple occurrence of ripples have reduced its preferences. The ultimate objective of this study is to control change in motor speed due to load variations. An improved Trans Z Source Inverter (ΓZSI) with a clamping diode is employed to maintain constant input voltage, reduce ripples and… More >

    P. Jenitha Deepa*, H. Habeebullah Sait

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 2703-2715, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.030496 - 17 August 2022

Abstract Single Phase Induction Motor (SPIM) is widely used in industries at starting stage to provide high starting torque. The objective of the work is to develop a drive for Single Phase Induction Motor that does not use a start or run capacitor. In this work, the researchers present the details about Maximum Power Point Tracking using series-compensated Buck Boost Converter, resonant Direct Current (DC) to Alternate Current (AC) inverter and matrix converter-based drive. The proposed method provides a variable starting torque feature that can be adjusted depending upon machine load to ensure Power Quality (PQ). More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 2493-2511, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.024679 - 19 July 2022

Abstract Three-phase induction motors are becoming increasingly utilized in industrial field due to their better efficiency and simple manufacture. The speed control of an induction motor is essential in a variety of applications, but it is difficult to control. This research analyses the three-phase induction motor’s performance using field-oriented control (FOC) and direct torque control (DTC) techniques. The major aim of this work is to provide a critical evaluation of developing a simple speed controller for induction motors with improving the performance of Induction Motor (IM). For controlling a motor, different optimization approaches are accessible; in More >

Design and Analysis of Novel Three-Phase PFC for IM Drives

    V. Kavitha1,*, K. Subramanian2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.1, pp. 231-241, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.024257 - 06 June 2022

Abstract Induction motor drives (IMDs) can achieve high performance levels comparable to dc motor drives. A major problem in getting high dynamic performance in an IMD is the coupling between the flux and torque producing components of stator current. This is successfully overcome in FOC (Field-Oriented Control) IM, making it to the industry standard control. The performance of an IMD with an improved power quality converter at the front end is presented in this study. In the IMD, boost converter is employed to reduce power quality difficulties at the utility interface. As the boost converter contains… More >

Abstract Owing to the 4.0 industrial revolution condition monitoring maintenance is widely accepted as a useful approach to avoiding plant disturbances and shutdown. Recently, Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is widely reported as a condition monitoring technique in the detection and identification of individual and multiple Induction Motor (IM) faults. However, checking the fault detection and classification with deep learning models and its comparison among themselves or conventional approaches is rarely reported in the literature. Therefore, in this work, we present the detection and identification of induction motor faults with MCSA and three Deep Learning (DL)… More >

Motor Torque Measurement Using Dual-Function Radar Polarized Signals of Flux

    B. Chinthamani1,*, N. S. Bhuvaneswari2, R. Senthil Kumar3, N. R. Shanker4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.1, pp. 515-530, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025410 - 15 April 2022

Abstract Motor Torque (MT) measurement plays a vital role for evaluating the performance of squirrel cage induction motor during operating conditions. Accurate and continuous measurements of MT provide information regarding driving load capacity, performance degradation of motor, reduces downtime and increases the efficiency. Traditional inline torque sensors-based measurement becomes inaccurate during abrupt change in load during starting condition of motor due to torque spikes. Mounting of torque sensor on motor is a major problem during torque measurement. Improper mounting of sensor acquires signals from other inefficient driveline components such as gearbox, couplings, and bearing. In this… More >

    H. Abdelfattah1, A. A. Abouelsoud2, Fahd A. Banakhr3, Mohamed I. Mosaad3,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 591-605, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.018765 - 03 September 2021

Abstract Induction motors are still the most used in industrial applications due to the simplicity of installation and low maintenance cost, especially for the squirrel cage type. The significant development in power electronics in terms of high-speed technologies in power electronic switches, their availability in high ratings, and the considerable decrease in the cost of the power electronics components supports this increase in uses. However, changing the induction motor's speed with loading, load torque measurement devices, and speed sensors limit this increase in using such motors. This paper proposes a state feedback controller-based backstepping technique for… More >
