    Lei Zhu1,2, Bin Liu2, Xuewei Liu2,*, Wei Deng1, Wenjie Yao1, Ying Fan1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 401-427, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.041444

Abstract To analyze the effects of a time-varying viscosity on the penetration length of grouting, in this study cement slurries with varying water-cement ratios have been investigated using the Bingham’s fluid flow equation and a discrete element method. A fluid-solid coupling numerical model has been introduced accordingly, and its accuracy has been validated through comparison of theoretical and numerical solutions. For different fracture forms (a single fracture, a branch fracture, and a fracture network), the influence of the time-varying viscosity on the slurry length range has been investigated, considering the change in the fracture aperture. The results show that under different… More >

MHD (SWCNTS + MWCNTS)/H2O-Based Williamson Hybrid Nanouids Flow Past Exponential Shrinking Sheet in Porous Medium

Hamzeh Taha Alkasasbeh1,*, Muhammad Khairul Anuar Mohamed2

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 265-279, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041539

Abstract The present study numerically investigates the flow and heat transfer of porous Williamson hybrid nanofluid on an exponentially shrinking sheet with magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effects. The nonlinear partial differential equations which governed the model are first reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations by using the similarity transformation. Next, the BVP4C solver is applied to solve the equations by considering the pertinent fluid parameters such as the permeability parameter, the magnetic parameter, the Williamson parameter, the nanoparticle volume fractions and the wall mass transfer parameter. The single (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanoparticles are taken as the hybrid nanoparticles.… More >

Numerical Investigations on Effects of Physical Parameters on Single Bubble Generation from Capillary Needles in Newtonian Liquids

    Meng Jia, Mingjun Pang*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 337-366, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.044286

Abstract The interphase mass, heat transfer efficiency, and flow resistance are strongly dependent on bubble size in gasliquid two-phase systems, so it is very important for engineering applications to effectively control bubble size. In this paper, the formation, growth, and detachment of single bubbles in Newtonian liquids based on capillary needles were studied in detail using a volume of fluid method. The authors investigated the effects of gas injection velocity, gravitational level, surface tension coefficient, needle radius, and liquid−phase properties (liquid viscosity and density) on the process of bubble generation, and the effects of the above factors on bubble shape, detachment… More >

    Abstract

Curcumin, a natural product, has exhibited promising effects in both animal models and clinical trials, interacting with a multitude of factors linked to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). These factors encompass cytokines, oxidative stress-associated enzymes, and modulation of the intestinal microbiota. Notably, curcumin has demonstrated therapeutic potential in animal models of colitis, wherein it exerts a negative regulatory influence on pivotal signaling pathways such as PI3/Akt, JAK/STAT, and β-catenin. Moreover, it inhibits the expression of pro-inflammatory enzymes and co-stimulatory molecules (including RANKL, ICAM-1, CD205, CD256, TLR4, among others), while curbing immune cell chemotaxis, thereby attenuating the characteristic neutrophil infiltration observed in… More > Graphic Abstract

THERMODYNAMIC ANALYSIS FOR THE MHD FLOW OF TWO IMMISCIBLE MICROPOLAR FLUIDS BETWEEN TWO PARALLEL PLATES

    J. Srinivas*, J. V. Ramana Murthy

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.6, pp. 1-11, 2015, DOI:10.5098/hmt.6.4

Abstract The paper aims the heat transfer analysis for the flow of two immiscible micropolar fluids inside a horizontal channel, by the first and second laws of thermodynamics under the action of an imposed transverse magnetic field. The plates of the channel are maintained at constant temperatures higher than that of the fluid. The flow region consists of two zones, the flow of the heavier fluid taking place in the lower zone. The condition of hyper-stick is taken on the plates and continuity of velocity, micro-rotation, temperature, heat flux, shear stress and couple stress are imposed at the interface. The velocity,… More >

CFD MODELING OF NATURAL CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER OF TIO2-WATER NANOFLUID IN A CYLINDRICAL CONTAINER

    Seyed Milad Mirabedin*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-6, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.17

Abstract This work focuses on numerical validation of natural convection heat transfer of TiO2-water nanofluids in a cylindrical container using COMSOL. The main aim of this study is to examine different available approaches to calculate effective thermal conductivity and compare them with experimental data available in the literature. Simulation results show that for considered mixture, average Nusselt number decreases by increasing Rayleigh number and particle volume fraction. It has been found that only one model was able to represent similar trends for given particle volume fractions, compared to experimental results. More >

Abstract The application of mathematical modeling to biological fluids is of utmost importance, as it has diverse applications in medicine. The peristaltic mechanism plays a crucial role in understanding numerous biological flows. In this paper, we present a theoretical investigation of the double diffusion convection in the peristaltic transport of a Prandtl nanofluid through an asymmetric tapered channel under the combined action of thermal radiation and an induced magnetic field. The equations for the current flow scenario are developed, incorporating relevant assumptions, and considering the effect of viscous dissipation. The impact of thermal radiation and double diffusion on public health is… More >

Construction of a Computational Scheme for the Fuzzy HIV/AIDS Epidemic Model with a Nonlinear Saturated Incidence Rate

    Muhammad Shoaib Arif1,2,*, Kamaleldin Abodayeh1, Yasir Nawaz2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.2, pp. 1405-1425, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.028946

Abstract This work aimed to construct an epidemic model with fuzzy parameters. Since the classical epidemic model does not elaborate on the successful interaction of susceptible and infective people, the constructed fuzzy epidemic model discusses the more detailed versions of the interactions between infective and susceptible people. The next-generation matrix approach is employed to find the reproduction number of a deterministic model. The sensitivity analysis and local stability analysis of the system are also provided. For solving the fuzzy epidemic model, a numerical scheme is constructed which consists of three time levels. The numerical scheme has an advantage over the existing… More >

Possible therapeutic role of short-chain fatty acids from skin commensal bacteria in UVB-induced skin carcinogenesis

    PAVITHRA SUBRAMANI1,2, RAUNAK KUMAR DAS1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.10, pp. 2195-2205, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.030383

Abstract Solar ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation is a major skin cancer-causing agent. Initiation, promotion, and progression are the diverse phases of UVB-induced carcinogenesis. Exposure to UVB causes abnormalities in a series of biochemical and molecular pathways: thymine dimer formation, DNA damage, oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and altered cell signaling, eventually resulting in tumor formation. The increased skin cancer rates urge researchers to develop more efficient drugs, but synthetic chemotherapeutic drugs have more contrary effects and drug resistance issues, which have been reported recently. The current review focuses on the relationship between microbes and cancer. Human skin acts as a barrier against… More > Graphic Abstract

Future of the current anticoronaviral agents: A viewpoint on the validation for the next COVIDs and pandemics

    AMGAD M. RABIE*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.10, pp. 2133-2139, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.030057

Abstract Despite the global decline in the severity of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, the disease still represents a major concern to the relevant scientific and medical communities. The primary concern of drug scientists, virologists, and other concerned specialists in this respect is to find ready-to-use suitable and potent anticoronaviral therapies that are broadly effective against the different species/strains of the coronaviruses in general, not only against the current and previous coronaviruses (e.g., the recently-appeared severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 “SARS-CoV-2”), i.e., effective antiviral agents for treatment and/or prophylaxis of any coronaviral infections, including those of the coming ones… More > Graphic Abstract
