    Mingxuan Chen1, Jun Jia2, Baoping Zhang1, Leiyan Han3, Mengbo Ji3,4, Zhangtao Yu1, Dongfang Li1, Wenyong Wang1, Hongjing Jia1, Huachi Xu2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.10, pp. 3055-3074, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.051524 - 11 September 2024

Abstract The rise in hydrogen production powered by renewable energy is driving the field toward the adoption of systems comprising multiple alkaline water electrolyzers. These setups present various operational modes: independent operation and multi-electrolyzer parallelization, each with distinct advantages and challenges. This study introduces an innovative configuration that incorporates a mutual lye mixer among electrolyzers, establishing a weakly coupled system that combines the advantages of two modes. This approach enables efficient heat utilization for faster hot-startup and maintains heat conservation post-lye interconnection, while preserving the option for independent operation after decoupling. Advanced Thermochemical Conversion Approaches for Green Hydrogen Production from Crop Residues

Omojola Awogbemi*, Ayotunde Adigun Ojo, Samson Adedayo Adeleye

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 1-28, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.045822 - 23 January 2024

Abstract The huge volumes of crop residues generated during the production, processing, and consumption of farm products constitute an ecological nuisance when ineffectively managed. The conversion of crop residues to green hydrogen is one of the sustainable management strategies for ubiquitous crop residues. Production of green hydrogen from crop residue sources will contribute to deepening access to clean and affordable energy, mitigating climate change, and ensuring environmental sustainability. However, the deployment of conventional thermochemical technologies for the conversion of crop residues to green hydrogen is costly, requires long residence time, produces low-quality products, and therefore needs… More >

    Yanshan Lu1, Binbin He1, Jun Jiang1, Ruixiao Lin2,*, Xinzhen Zhang2, Zaimin Yang3, Zhi Rao3, Wenchuan Meng3, Siyang Sun3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.12, pp. 2803-2818, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.042328 - 29 November 2023

Abstract To solve the problem of residual wind power in offshore wind farms, a hydrogen production system with a reasonable capacity was configured to enhance the local load of wind farms and promote the local consumption of residual wind power. By studying the mathematical model of wind power output and calculating surplus wind power, as well as considering the hydrogen production/storage characteristics of the electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank, an innovative capacity optimization allocation model was established. The objective of the model was to achieve the lowest total net present value over the entire life cycle.… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09663

Abstract Alkaline water electrolysis system for hydrogen production has the characteristics of complex structure, fault coupling and state nonlinearity, coupled with the restriction by many factors such as data acquisition methods and analysis methods. The operation status cannot be fully characterized through current monitoring information. In order to solve the problems in health status assessment in the operation of alkaline water electrolysis system, a digital twin-driven predictive maintenance method is put forward to achieve the real-time monitoring of operation status and prediction of remaining useful life. In the study, a multi-disciplinary simulation model of the alkaline… More >

Sainan Zhang, Jing Xue*, Xudong Sun

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.4, pp. 1547-1567, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.019450 - 23 May 2022

Abstract Since there are multiple influencing factors and lack of evaluation standards for the construction of hydrogen production and hydrogenation station in China, this paper establishes the suitability evaluation index system of hydrogen production and hydrogenation station from four aspects of technology, economy, environment and safety. Combined with actual conditions, this paper uses Analytic Hierarch Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Comprehensive evaluation to evaluate water electrolysis hydrogen and hydrogenation production station and natural gas reformation hydrogen production and hydrogenation station. The results show that hydrogen producing by water electrolysis is more efficient than natural gas reformation in More > Graphic Abstract

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.3, pp. 653-663, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018556 - 28 September 2021

Abstract Hydrogen production through solar energy is one of the most important pathways to meet the growing demand of renewable energy, and photocatalyst participation in solar hydrolytic hydrogen production has received great attention in recent years in terms of low cost, high efficiency, and flexible design. Particularly, g-C3N4 (Graphitic-like carbon nitride material), as a unique material, can catalyze the hydrogen production process by completing the separation and transmission of charge. The easily adjustable pore structure/surface area, dimension, band-gap modulation and defect have shown great potential for hydrogen production from water cracking. In this review, the most recent More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract This work presents a hybrid power system consisting of photovoltaic and solid oxide fuel cell (PV-SOFC) for electricity production and hydrogen production. The simulation of this hybrid system is adjusted for Bou-Zedjar city in north Algeria. Homer software was used for this simulation to calculate the power output and the total net present cost. The method used depends on the annual average monthly values of clearness index and radiation for which the energy contributions are determined for each component of PV/SOFC hybrid system. The economic study is more important criterion in the proposed hybrid system, More >

Low Temperature H2 Production from Formic Acid Aqueous Solution Catalyzed on Metal Doped Mo2C

    Shuaishuai Zhu1, Zhigang Pan1,2, Yaqiu Tao1,2,*, Yue Chen1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.8, pp. 939-946, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.011197 - 10 July 2020

Abstract Hydrogen is recognized as a promising energy scours in the close future. Online hydrogen preparation from formic acid under mild reaction conditions causes extensive interests. Mo2C and metal (Fe, Ni, Co, K) doped Mo2C on granular activated carbon (GAC) were prepared and used as heterogeneous catalysts for H2 generation from formic acid on a fixed bed reactor at 100–250°C. The formic acid conversions on doped Mo2C-Me/GAC are clearly improved, especially at lower reaction temperatures. Co doping presents outstanding effect on H2 selectivity and conversion rate compared to Ni and Fe. A 56.3% formic acid conversion was reached on More >

Lattice Boltzmann Simulation of a Gas-to-Solid Reaction and Precipitation Process in a Circular Tube

    Matthew D. Lindemer1, Suresh G. Advani2,*, Ajay K. Prasad2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.117, No.3, pp. 527-553, 2018, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2018.00481

Abstract The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is used to simulate the growth of a solid-deposit on the walls of a circular tube resulting from a gas-to-solid reaction and precipitation process. This process is of particular interest for the design of reactors for the production of hydrogen by the heterogeneous hydrolysis of steam with Zn vapor in the Zn/ZnO thermochemical cycle. The solid deposit of ZnO product on the tube wall evolves in time according to the temporally- and axially-varying convective-diffusive transport and reaction of Zn vapor with steam on the solid surface. The LBM is well-suited… More >
