    Stephen Ojo1, Moez Krichen2,3,*, Meznah A. Alamro4, Alaeddine Mihoub5, Gabriel Avelino Sampedro6, Jaroslava Kniezova7,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.81, No.1, pp. 643-661, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.052147 - 15 October 2024

Abstract Myelin damage and a wide range of symptoms are caused by the immune system targeting the central nervous system in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic autoimmune neurological condition. It disrupts signals between the brain and body, causing symptoms including tiredness, muscle weakness, and difficulty with memory and balance. Traditional methods for detecting MS are less precise and time-consuming, which is a major gap in addressing this problem. This gap has motivated the investigation of new methods to improve MS detection consistency and accuracy. This paper proposed a novel approach named FAD consisting of Deep Neural Network… More >

Traffic Flow Prediction with Heterogeneous Spatiotemporal Data Based on a Hybrid Deep Learning Model Using Attention-Mechanism

    Jing-Doo Wang1, Chayadi Oktomy Noto Susanto1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.2, pp. 1711-1728, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.048955 - 20 May 2024

Abstract A significant obstacle in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is the capacity to predict traffic flow. Recent advancements in deep neural networks have enabled the development of models to represent traffic flow accurately. However, accurately predicting traffic flow at the individual road level is extremely difficult due to the complex interplay of spatial and temporal factors. This paper proposes a technique for predicting short-term traffic flow data using an architecture that utilizes convolutional bidirectional long short-term memory (Conv-BiLSTM) with attention mechanisms. Prior studies neglected to include data pertaining to factors such as holidays, weather conditions, and More >

RoGRUT: A Hybrid Deep Learning Model for Detecting Power Trapping in Smart Grids

    Farah Mohammad1,*, Saad Al-Ahmadi2, Jalal Al-Muhtadi1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.2, pp. 3175-3192, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.042873 - 15 May 2024

Abstract Electricity theft is a widespread non-technical issue that has a negative impact on both power grids and electricity users. It hinders the economic growth of utility companies, poses electrical risks, and impacts the high energy costs borne by consumers. The development of smart grids is crucial for the identification of power theft since these systems create enormous amounts of data, including information on client consumption, which may be used to identify electricity theft using machine learning and deep learning techniques. Moreover, there also exist different solutions such as hardware-based solutions to detect electricity theft that… More >

Detection of Student Engagement in E-Learning Environments Using EfficientnetV2-L Together with RNN-Based Models

    Farhad Mortezapour Shiri1,*, Ehsan Ahmadi2, Mohammadreza Rezaee1, Thinagaran Perumal1

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 85-103, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2024.048911 - 24 April 2024

Abstract Automatic detection of student engagement levels from videos, which is a spatio-temporal classification problem is crucial for enhancing the quality of online education. This paper addresses this challenge by proposing four novel hybrid end-to-end deep learning models designed for the automatic detection of student engagement levels in e-learning videos. The evaluation of these models utilizes the DAiSEE dataset, a public repository capturing student affective states in e-learning scenarios. The initial model integrates EfficientNetV2-L with Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) and attains an accuracy of 61.45%. Subsequently, the second model combines EfficientNetV2-L with bidirectional GRU (Bi-GRU), yielding More >

Identification of Tuberculosis and Coronavirus Patients Using Hybrid Deep Learning Models

    Mohammed A. Al Ghamdi*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.1, pp. 881-894, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.037826 - 08 June 2023

Abstract Considerable resources, technology, and efforts are being utilized worldwide to eradicate the coronavirus. Although certain measures taken to prevent the further spread of the disease have been successful, efforts to completely wipe out the coronavirus have been insufficient. Coronavirus patients have symptoms similar to those of chest Tuberculosis (TB) or pneumonia patients. Chest tuberculosis and coronavirus are similar because both diseases affect the lungs, cause coughing and produce an irregular respiratory system. Both diseases can be confirmed through X-ray imaging. It is a difficult task to diagnose COVID-19, as coronavirus testing kits are neither excessively… More >
