Ala-Gln improves varicocele-induced testicular injury by increasing HSP70 and antioxidant activity in male rats

    LEI YU1,2, ZHEN FAN3, HONGQIANG WANG2, WENXIAN LI4, TAO JING2, QIANG LI2, SHENQIAN LI2, PEITAO WANG2, XUJUN XUAN1,*

Abstract This worked aimed to test the hypothesis that L-alanyl-L-glutamine (Ala-Gln) improves the varicocele-induced testicular injury, which causes male infertility. For this purpose, fifty adult male Wistar rats received the varicocele (VC) surgery at the left renal vein. Biomarkers were determined 2, 4, and 8 weeks after VC (n = 10/each detection). Four weeks after VC, rats received Ala-Gln (1.125 g/kg) treatment with and or saline for 1 week (n = 10/each group). Rats in the sham group were also detected for biomarkers at 2, 4, and 8 weeks (n = 10/each detection). VC caused testicular… More >

Abstract The ancestral cultures have described many therapeutic properties of garlic; therefore, it is of central interest to elucidate the molecular basis explaining this millenary empirical knowledge. Indeed, it has been demonstrated a neuroprotective effect of allicin–a phytochemical present in garlic- linked to oxidative-inflammatory modulation. Allicin improved neuronal injury by heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) regulation. Also, allicin exerts renal protection involving a possible angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1) interaction. In connection, AT1 overexpression has been recognized as a central deleterious factor in many brain diseases. However, there are no… More >

Hyaluronic acid inhibited the upregulation of heat shock protein 70 in human chondrocytes from osteoarthritis and Kashin-Beck disease

    Zongqiang GAO1, Xiong GUO2, Junchang CHEN1, Chen DUAN2

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 99-102, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.06520

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) in chondrocytes isolated from patients with osteoarthritis (OA) and Kashin-Beck disease (KBD). The chondrocytes were collected from OA and KBD patients, and chondrocytes isolated from patients of accident injuries were used as the control. The chondrocytes were treated with HA at different doses. HSP70 expression in chondrocytes at both mRNA and protein levels was tested by PCR and Western blot analysis. Compared with control, both mRNA and protein levels of HSP70 were higher in chondrocytes More >

miR-202 Promotes Cell Apoptosis in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma by Targeting HSF2

Xiangrui Meng*1, Xiaoqi Chen†1, Peng Lu, Wang Ma*, Dongli Yue*, Lijie Song*, Qingxia Fan*

    Oncology Research, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 215-223, 2017, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14732772150541

Abstract Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common malignant cancers with high mortality around the world. However, the regulatory mechanism of ESCC carcinogenesis is not completely known. Here we demonstrate the novel role of miR-202 in regulating ESCC cell apoptosis. The analysis of data obtained from the GEO database showed that the expression of miR-202 is aberrantly decreased in tumor tissue from ESCC patients and cultured ESCC cell lines. After transfection with miR-202 mimic or inhibitor, the apoptotic capacity of ESCC cells was significantly increased by miR-202 overexpression but reduced by miR-202… More >

WT-1 mRNA expression is modulated by nitric oxide availability and Hsp70 interaction after neonatal unilateral ureteral

    LUCIANA MAZZEI1, ISABEL MERCEDES GARCÍA1, VALERIA CACCIAMANI1, MARÍA EUGENIA BENARDÓN1 AND WALTER MANUCHA1, 2, 3

    BIOCELL, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 121-132, 2010, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2010.34.121

Abstract Wilms tumor gene 1 (wt-1), a key regulator of mesenchymal-epithelial transformation, is downregulated during congenital obstructive nephropathy, leading to apoptosis. There is a functional interaction between WT-1 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). In this regard, we reported that after neonatal unilateral ureteral obstruction, rosuvastatin prevents apoptosis through an increase in nitric oxide bioavailability, which in turn is linked to higher Hsp70 expression. Hence, the goal of this study was to determine whether a nitric oxide/Hsp70 interaction is involved in changes in WT-1 mRNA expression after ureteral obstruction. Neonatal rats submitted to experimental ureteral obstruction were… More >

Localization of Sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (SPCSV) in synergic infection with Potyviruses in sweet potato

    CLAUDIA FERNANDA NOME1 , SERGIO FERNANDO NOME2 , FABIANA GUZMÁN1 , LUIS CONCI1, IRMA GRACIELA LAGUNA1,2

    BIOCELL, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 23-31, 2007, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2007.31.023

Abstract Among diseases reported worldwidely for sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam) crop, one of the most frequent is the Sweet potato virus disease (SPVD), caused by sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (SPCSV) and sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV) co-infection. In Argentina, there exists the sweet potato chlorotic dwarf (SPCD), a sweet potato disease caused by triple co-infection with SPCSV, SPFMV and sweet potato mild speckling virus(SPMSV). Both diseases cause a synergism between the potyviruses(SPFMV and SPMSV) and the crinivirus (SPCSV). Up to date, studies carried out on the interaction among these three viruses have… More >
