MINGCAI ZHANG, TANNER CAMPBELL, SPENCER FALCON, JINXI WANG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.10, pp. 2125-2132, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.030161

Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA), the most common form of joint disease, is characterized clinically by joint pain, stiffness, and deformity. OA is now considered a whole joint disease; however, the breakdown of the articular cartilage remains the major hallmark of the disease. Current treatments targeting OA symptoms have a limited impact on impeding or reversing the OA progression. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying OA development is a critical barrier to progress in OA therapy. Recent studies by the current authors’ group and others have revealed that the nuclear factor of activated T cell 1 (NFAT1), a member of the NFAT… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.3, pp. 3297-3323, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.040967

Abstract As a new bionic algorithm, Spider Monkey Optimization (SMO) has been widely used in various complex optimization problems in recent years. However, the new space exploration power of SMO is limited and the diversity of the population in SMO is not abundant. Thus, this paper focuses on how to reconstruct SMO to improve its performance, and a novel spider monkey optimization algorithm with opposition-based learning and orthogonal experimental design (SMO3) is developed. A position updating method based on the historical optimal domain and particle swarm for Local Leader Phase (LLP) and Global Leader Phase (GLP) is presented to improve the… More >

A New Strategy for Dynamic Channel Allocation in CR-WMN Based on RCA

    Kaleem Arshid1,*, Jianbiao Zhang1, Muhammad Yaqub1, Mohammad Daud Awan2, Habiba Ijaz3, Imran Shabir Chuhan4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.3, pp. 2631-2647, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035735

Abstract Channel assignment has emerged as an essential study subject in Cognitive Radio-based Wireless Mesh Networks (CR-WMN). In an era of alarming increase in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel (MRMC) network expansion interference is decreased and network throughput is significantly increased when non-overlapping or partially overlapping channels are correctly integrated. Because of its ad hoc behavior, dynamic channel assignment outperforms static channel assignment. Interference reduces network throughput in the CR-WMN. As a result, there is an extensive research gap for an algorithm that dynamically distributes channels while accounting for all types of interference. This work presents a method for dynamic channel allocations using unsupervised… More >

    Dongmei Huang1, Dang Hong2, Wei Li1,*, Guidong Yang1, Vesna Rajic3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.1, pp. 509-524, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029215

Abstract In this paper, the bifurcation properties of the vibro-impact systems with an uncertain parameter under the impulse and harmonic excitations are investigated. Firstly, by means of the orthogonal polynomial approximation (OPA) method, the nonlinear damping and stiffness are expanded into the linear combination of the state variable. The condition for the appearance of the vibro-impact phenomenon is to be transformed based on the calculation of the mean value. Afterwards, the stochastic vibro-impact system can be turned into an equivalent high-dimensional deterministic non-smooth system. Two different Poincaré sections are chosen to analyze the bifurcation properties and the impact numbers are identified… More >

Abstract In order to improve the comprehensive utilization rate of high fines sand (HFS) produced by the mine, full solid waste shotcrete (HFS-BFRS) was prepared with HFS as fine aggregate in cooperation with basalt fiber (BF). The strength growth characteristics of HFS-BFRS were analyzed. And the fitting equation of compressive strength growth characteristics of HFS-BFRS under the synergistic effect of multiple factors was given. And based on the orthogonal experimental method, the effects on the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength of HFS-BFRS under the action of different levels of influencing factors were investigated. The effect of three factors… More >

Deep Learning Applied to Computational Mechanics: A Comprehensive Review, State of the Art, and the Classics

    Loc Vu-Quoc1,*, Alexander Humer2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.2, pp. 1069-1343, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.028130

Abstract Three recent breakthroughs due to AI in arts and science serve as motivation: An award winning digital image, protein folding, fast matrix multiplication. Many recent developments in artificial neural networks, particularly deep learning (DL), applied and relevant to computational mechanics (solid, fluids, finite-element technology) are reviewed in detail. Both hybrid and pure machine learning (ML) methods are discussed. Hybrid methods combine traditional PDE discretizations with ML methods either (1) to help model complex nonlinear constitutive relations, (2) to nonlinearly reduce the model order for efficient simulation (turbulence), or (3) to accelerate the simulation by predicting certain components in the traditional… More >

QBFO-BOMP Based Channel Estimation Algorithm for mmWave Massive MIMO Systems

Xiaoli Jing, Xianpeng Wang*, Xiang Lan, Ting Su

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.2, pp. 1789-1804, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.028477

Abstract At present, the traditional channel estimation algorithms have the disadvantages of over-reliance on initial conditions and high complexity. The bacterial foraging optimization (BFO)-based algorithm has been applied in wireless communication and signal processing because of its simple operation and strong self-organization ability. But the BFO-based algorithm is easy to fall into local optimum. Therefore, this paper proposes the quantum bacterial foraging optimization (QBFO)-binary orthogonal matching pursuit (BOMP) channel estimation algorithm to the problem of local optimization. Firstly, the binary matrix is constructed according to whether atoms are selected or not. And the support set of the sparse signal is recovered… More >

Abstract Infection of plum bark necrosis stem pitting associated virus (PBNSPaV) has been reported in many Prunus species in several countries, causing significant economic losses. The very small proteins encoded by plant viruses are often overlooked due to their short sequences and uncertain significance. However, numerous studies have indicated that they might play important roles in the pathogenesis of virus infection. The role of small hydrophobic protein P6, encoded by the open reading frame 2 of PBNSPaV, has not been well explored. In this study, we amplified the P6 fragment from a PBNSPaV isolate by RT-PCR using specific primers and found… More >

    Zhiping Lu1, Xinwei Yue2,*, Shuo Chen2, Weiguo Ma1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.1, pp. 789-812, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027663

Abstract Active intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is a novel and promising technology that is able to overcome the multiplicative fading introduced by passive IRS. In this paper, we consider the application of active IRS to non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks, where the incident signals are amplified actively through integrating amplifier to reflecting elements. More specifically, the performance of active/passive IRS-NOMA networks is investigated over large and small-scale fading channels. Aiming to characterize the performance of active IRS-NOMA networks, the exact and asymptotic expressions of outage probability for a couple of users, i.e., near-end user and far-end user are derived by exploiting… More >
