An Optimized Implementation of a Novel Nonlinear Filter for Color Image Restoration

    Turki M. Alanazi*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 1553-1568, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.039686 - 21 June 2023

Abstract Image processing is becoming more popular because images are being used increasingly in medical diagnosis, biometric monitoring, and character recognition. But these images are frequently contaminated with noise, which can corrupt subsequent image processing stages. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel nonlinear filter for removing “salt and pepper” impulsive noise from a complex color image. The new filter is called the Modified Vector Directional Filter (MVDF). The suggested method is based on the traditional Vector Directional Filter (VDF). However, before the candidate pixel is processed by the VDF, the MVDF employs a threshold… More >

Machine Learning for Hybrid Line Stability Ranking Index in Polynomial Load Modeling under Contingency Conditions

    P. Venkatesh1,*, N. Visali2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 1001-1012, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.036268 - 29 April 2023

Abstract In the conventional technique, in the evaluation of the severity index, clustering and loading suffer from more iteration leading to more computational delay. Hence this research article identifies, a novel progression for fast predicting the severity of the line and clustering by incorporating machine learning aspects. The polynomial load modelling or ZIP (constant impedances (Z), Constant Current (I) and Constant active power (P)) is developed in the IEEE-14 and Indian 118 bus systems considered for analysis of power system security. The process of finding the severity of the line using a Hybrid Line Stability Ranking… More >

Fuzzy-HLSTM (Hierarchical Long Short-Term Memory) for Agricultural Based Information Mining

Ahmed Abdu Alattab1,*, Mohammed Eid Ibrahim1, Reyazur Rashid Irshad1, Anwar Ali Yahya2, Amin A. Al-Awady3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 2397-2413, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.030924 - 31 October 2022

Abstract This research proposes a machine learning approach using fuzzy logic to build an information retrieval system for the next crop rotation. In case-based reasoning systems, case representation is critical, and thus, researchers have thoroughly investigated textual, attribute-value pair, and ontological representations. As big databases result in slow case retrieval, this research suggests a fast case retrieval strategy based on an associated representation, so that, cases are interrelated in both either similar or dissimilar cases. As soon as a new case is recorded, it is compared to prior data to find a relative match. The proposed More >

An Efficient HW/SW Design for Text Extraction from Complex Color Image

Mohamed Amin Ben Atitallah1,2,3,*, Rostom Kachouri2, Ahmed Ben Atitallah4, Hassene Mnif1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 5963-5977, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.024345 - 14 January 2022

Abstract In the context of constructing an embedded system to help visually impaired people to interpret text, in this paper, an efficient High-level synthesis (HLS) Hardware/Software (HW/SW) design for text extraction using the Gamma Correction Method (GCM) is proposed. Indeed, the GCM is a common method used to extract text from a complex color image and video. The purpose of this work is to study the complexity of the GCM method on Xilinx ZCU102 FPGA board and to propose a HW implementation as Intellectual Property (IP) block of the critical blocks in this method using HLS More >

Unified FPGA Design for the HEVC Dequantization and Inverse Transform Modules

Turki M. Alanazi, Ahmed Ben Atitallah*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 4319-4335, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022988 - 14 January 2022

Abstract As the newest standard, the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is specially designed to minimize the bitrate for video data transfer and to support High Definition (HD) and ULTRA HD video resolutions at the cost of increasing computational complexity relative to earlier standards like the H.264. Therefore, real-time video decoding with HEVC decoder becomes a challenging task. However, the Dequantization and Inverse Transform (DE/IT) are one of the computationally intensive modules in the HEVC decoder which are used to reconstruct the residual block. Thus, in this paper, a unified hardware architecture is proposed to implement… More >

An Optimized SW/HW AVMF Design Based on High-Level Synthesis Flow for Color Images

    Turki M. Alanazi1, Ahmed Ben Atitallah1,2,*, Imen Abid2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 2925-2943, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017575 - 06 May 2021

Abstract In this paper, a software/hardware High-level Synthesis (HLS) design is proposed to compute the Adaptive Vector Median Filter (AVMF) in real-time. In fact, this filter is known by its excellent impulsive noise suppression and chromaticity conservation. The software (SW) study of this filter demonstrates that its implementation is too complex. The purpose of this work is to study the impact of using an HLS tool to design ideal floating-point and optimized fixed-point hardware (HW) architectures for the AVMF filter using square root function (ideal HW) and ROM memory (optimized HW), respectively, to select the best… More >
