    Krishan Kumar1,*, Mohamed Abouhawwash2,3, Amit Kant Pandit1, Shubham Mahajan1, Mofreh A. Hogo4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 1977-1993, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027850

Abstract The high-efficiency video coder (HEVC) is one of the most advanced techniques used in growing real-time multimedia applications today. However, they require large bandwidth for transmission through bandwidth, and bandwidth varies with different video sequences/formats. This paper proposes an adaptive information-based variable quantization matrix (AI-VQM) developed for different video formats having variable energy levels. The quantization method is adapted based on video sequence using statistical analysis, improving bit budget, quality and complexity reduction. Further, to have precise control over bit rate and quality, a multi-constraint prune algorithm is proposed in the second stage of the AI-VQM technique for pre-calculating K… More >

Unified FPGA Design for the HEVC Dequantization and Inverse Transform Modules

Turki M. Alanazi, Ahmed Ben Atitallah*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 4319-4335, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022988

Abstract As the newest standard, the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is specially designed to minimize the bitrate for video data transfer and to support High Definition (HD) and ULTRA HD video resolutions at the cost of increasing computational complexity relative to earlier standards like the H.264. Therefore, real-time video decoding with HEVC decoder becomes a challenging task. However, the Dequantization and Inverse Transform (DE/IT) are one of the computationally intensive modules in the HEVC decoder which are used to reconstruct the residual block. Thus, in this paper, a unified hardware architecture is proposed to implement the HEVC DE/IT module for… More >

Developing Secure Healthcare Video Consultations for Corona Virus (COVID-19) Pandemic

    Mohammed A. AlZain1,*, Jehad F. Al-Amri1, Ahmed I. Sallam2, Emad Sami Jaha3, Sultan S. Alshamrani1, Hala S. El-Sayed4, Osama S. Faragallah1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1627-1640, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.020137

Abstract Many health networks became increasingly interactive in implementing a consulting approach to telemedicine before the COVID-19 pandemic. To mitigate patient trafficking and reduce the virus exposure in health centers, several GPs, physicians and people in the video were consulted during the pandemic at the start. Video and smartphone consultations will allow well-insulated and high-risk medical practitioners to maintain their patient care security. Video appointments include diabetes, obesity, hypertension, stroke, mental health, chemotherapy and chronic pain. Many urgent diseases, including an emergency triage for the eye, may also be used for online consultations and triages. The COVID-19 pandemic shows that healthcare… More >

    Junaid Tariq1,*, Ayman Alfalou2, Amir Ijaz1, Hashim Ali3, Imran Ashraf1, Hameedur Rahman1, Ammar Armghan4, Inzamam Mashood1, Saad Rehman1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.2, pp. 3903-3918, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019541

Abstract Comprehension algorithms like High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) facilitates fast and efficient handling of multimedia contents. Such algorithms involve various computation modules that help to reduce the size of content but preserve the same subjective viewing quality. However, the brute-force behavior of HEVC is the biggest hurdle in the communication of multimedia content. Therefore, a novel method will be presented here to accelerate the encoding process of HEVC by making early intra mode decisions for the block. Normally, the HEVC applies 35 intra modes to every block of the frame and selects the best among them based on the RD-cost… More >

Utilization of HEVC ChaCha20-Based Selective Encryption for Secure Telehealth Video Conferencing

    Osama S. Faragallah1,*, Ahmed I. Sallam2, Hala S. El-sayed3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 831-845, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019151

Abstract Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a contagious disease that causes exceptional effect on healthcare organizations worldwide with dangerous impact on medical services within the hospitals. Because of the fast spread of COVID-19, the healthcare facilities could be a big source of disease infection. So, healthcare video consultations should be used to decrease face-to-face communication between clinician and patients. Healthcare video consultations may be beneficial for some COVID-19 conditions and reduce the need for face-to-face contact with a potentially positive patient without symptoms. These conditions are like top clinicians who provide remote consultations to develop treatment methodology and follow-up remotely, patients who consult… More >

Novel Ransomware Hiding Model Using HEVC Steganography Approach

    Iman Almomani1,2,*, Aala AlKhayer1, Walid El-Shafai1,3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1209-1228, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.018631

Abstract Ransomware is considered one of the most threatening cyberattacks. Existing solutions have focused mainly on discriminating ransomware by analyzing the apps themselves, but they have overlooked possible ways of hiding ransomware apps and making them difficult to be detected and then analyzed. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel ransomware hiding model by utilizing a block-based High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) steganography approach. The main idea of the proposed steganography approach is the division of the secret ransomware data and cover HEVC frames into different blocks. After that, the Least Significant Bit (LSB) based Hamming Distance (HD) calculation is performed amongst the… More >

An Effective CU Depth Decision Method for HEVC Using Machine Learning

    Xuan Sun1,2,3, Pengyu Liu1,2,3,*, Xiaowei Jia4, Kebin Jia1,2,3, Shanji Chen5, Yueying Wu1,2,3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.39, No.2, pp. 275-286, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015255

Abstract This paper presents an effective machine learning-based depth selection algorithm for CTU (Coding Tree Unit) in HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding). Existing machine learning methods are limited in their ability in handling the initial depth decision of CU (Coding Unit) and selecting the proper set of input features for the depth selection model. In this paper, we first propose a new classification approach for the initial division depth prediction. In particular, we study the correlation of the texture complexity, QPs (quantization parameters) and the depth decision of the CUs to forecast the original partition depth of the current CUs. Secondly,… More >

Fuzzy Based Adaptive Deblocking Filters at Low-Bitrate HEVC Videos for Communication Networks

    Anudeep Gandam1,*, Jagroop Singh Sidhu2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 3045-3063, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.013663

Abstract In-loop filtering significantly helps detect and remove blocking artifacts across block boundaries in low bitrate coded High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) frames and improves its subjective visual quality in multimedia services over communication networks. However, on faster processing of the complex videos at a low bitrate, some visible artifacts considerably degrade the picture quality. In this paper, we proposed a four-step fuzzy based adaptive deblocking filter selection technique. The proposed method removes the quantization noise, blocking artifacts and corner outliers efficiently for HEVC coded videos even at low bit-rate. We have considered Y (luma), U (chroma-blue), and V (chroma-red) components… More >
