Abstract Myzus persicae (M. persicae) is now considered a threat to agricultural crops due to economic losses. Numerous synthetic insecticides applied every year against M. persicae, are reported to be unsafe for environment, humans, and beneficial insects. Furthermore, several species of Myzus have been found to develop resistance due to over application of these insecticides. Therefore, it is required to find some novel insecticide that would be safe for the environment as well as for humans. In the current study, two major pure constituents α-pinene and β-caryophyllene were evaluated for their insecticidal potential against M. persicae using a fumigant toxicity assay.… More >

Abstract Phytocyanin (PC) is a class of plant-specific blue copper proteins involved in electron transport, plant growth, development, and stress resistance. However, PC proteins have not been systematically evaluated in tobacco plants. We determined the whole-genome sequences of the PC family in the tobacco cultivar ‘K326.’ The transcriptome data were used to analyze the expression of the NtPC family at different development stages and tissue-specific genes. Real-time fluorescence quantitative analysis was used to analyze the expression of the NtPC gene family under low temperature and methyl jasmonate stress. The tobacco NtPC family contained 110 members and was divided into four subfamilies:… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.3, pp. 2815-2840, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027146

Abstract The multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem (MS-RCPSP) is a significant management science problem that extends from the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) and is integrated with a real project and production environment. To solve MS-RCPSP, it is an efficient method to use dispatching rules combined with a parallel scheduling mechanism to generate a scheduling scheme. This paper proposes an improved gene expression programming (IGEP) approach to explore newly dispatching rules that can broadly solve MS-RCPSP. A new backward traversal decoding mechanism, and several neighborhood operators are applied in IGEP. The backward traversal decoding mechanism dramatically reduces the space complexity in… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) is a subtropical evergreen fruit tree that produces fruits with abundant nutrients and medicinal components. Confirming suitable reference genes for a set of loquat samples before qRT-PCR experiments is essential for the accurate quantification of gene expression. In this study, eight candidate reference genes were selected from our previously published RNA-seq data, and primers for each candidate reference gene were designed and evaluated. The Cq values of the candidate reference genes were calculated by RT-qPCR in 31 different loquat samples, including 12 subgroups of developing or abiotic-stressed tissues. Different combinations of stable reference genes were screened… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.3, pp. 555-567, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.026254

Abstract Background: Recently, researchers have been attracted in identifying the crucial genes related to cancer, which plays important role in cancer diagnosis and treatment. However, in performing the cancer molecular subtype classification task from cancer gene expression data, it is challenging to obtain those significant genes due to the high dimensionality and high noise of data. Moreover, the existing methods always suffer from some issues such as premature convergence. Methods: To address those problems, we propose a new ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm called DACO to classify the cancer gene expression datasets, identifying the essential genes of different diseases. In DACO,… More >

Abstract Gene expression (GE) classification is a research trend as it has been used to diagnose and prognosis many diseases. Employing machine learning (ML) in the prediction of many diseases based on GE data has been a flourishing research area. However, some diseases, like Alzheimer’s disease (AD), have not received considerable attention, probably owing to data scarcity obstacles. In this work, we shed light on the prediction of AD from GE data accurately using ML. Our approach consists of four phases: preprocessing, gene selection (GS), classification, and performance validation. In the preprocessing phase, gene columns are preprocessed identically. In the GS… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.3, pp. 861-881, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.025487

    Abstract

Understanding physiological responses in saline agriculture may facilitate wheat breeding programs. Based on a screening test, the Ningmai-14 (NM-14) and Yangmai-23 (YM-23) wheat cultivars were selected for further experiments to understand the underlying salinity tolerance mechanism. This study investigated the effects of five salinity levels such as Control (CK) = 0 (without NaCl stress), S1 = 0.20%, S2 = 0.25%, S3 = 0.30% and S4 = 0.35% of NaCl concentrations of soil on wheat plants. The results showed that increased salinity concentration reduced the growth and yield of wheat cultivars (NM-14 and YM-23). However, YM-23 (12.7%) yielded more than NM-14… More >

    Muhammad Hamraz1, Dost Muhammad Khan1, Naz Gul1, Amjad Ali1, Zardad Khan1, Shafiq Ahmad2, Mejdal Alqahtani2, Akber Abid Gardezi3, Muhammad Shafiq4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 3663-3677, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.030064

Abstract The current study proposes a novel technique for feature selection by inculcating robustness in the conventional Signal to noise Ratio (SNR). The proposed method utilizes the robust measures of location i.e., the “Median” as well as the measures of variation i.e., “Median absolute deviation (MAD) and Interquartile range (IQR)” in the SNR. By this way, two independent robust signal-to-noise ratios have been proposed. The proposed method selects the most informative genes/features by combining the minimum subset of genes or features obtained via the greedy search approach with top-ranked genes selected through the robust signal-to-noise ratio (RSNR). The results obtained via… More >

    G. Anurekha*, P. Geetha

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 3049-3064, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.029127

Abstract Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complicated neurodevelopmental disorder that is often identified in toddlers. The microarray data is used as a diagnostic tool to identify the genetics of the disorder. However, microarray data is large and has a high volume. Consequently, it suffers from the problem of dimensionality. In microarray data, the sample size and variance of the gene expression will lead to overfitting and misclassification. Identifying the autism gene (feature) subset from microarray data is an important and challenging research area. It has to be efficiently addressed to improve gene feature selection and classification. To overcome the challenges,… More >
