Regulating Empathy: Exploring the Process through Agents and Strategies

    Ke Jia, Xiuli Liu*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.12, pp. 1265-1285, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.043430

Abstract Empathy is a complex emotional phenomenon that plays a crucial role in promoting cooperation and social cohesion within human society. However, there is ongoing debate regarding the mechanisms that underlie the generation of empathy. While the importance of biological emotional resonance in empathy is widely recognized, the influence of cognitive regulation on empathetic responses cannot be disregarded. This article seeks to review the agents and strategies involved in regulating empathy to construct a dynamic model depicting the process. The model highlights that the impact of specific goals on empathy regulation is not definitive; rather, it depends on an individual’s interpretation… More >

Extension of Goal-Directed Behavior Model for Post-Pandemic Korean Travel Intentions to Alternative Local Destinations: Perceived Risk and Knowledge

    Heesup Han1, Hong Ngoc Nguyen2, Hyerin Lee3, Sanghyeop Lee4,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 449-469, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.025379

Abstract Since the outbreak of COVID-19, tourists have been increasingly concerned over various risks of international travel, while knowledge of the pandemic appears to vary significantly. In addition, as travel restrictions continue to impact adversely on international tourism, tourism efforts should be placed more on the domestic markets. Via structural equation modeling, this study unearthed different risk factors impacting Korean travelers’ choices of alternative local destinations in the post-pandemic era. In addition, this study extended the goal-directed behavior framework with the acquisition of perceived risk and knowledge of COVID-19, which was proven to hold a significantly superior explanatory power of tourists’… More >

Applying SMART Goal Intervention Leads to Greater Goal Attainment, Need Satisfaction and Positive Affect

    Zeynab Bahrami1, Atena Heidari1,*, Jacquelyn Cranney2

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.6, pp. 869-882, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.018954

Abstract Previous research suggests that planning interventions lead to increased goal attainment, while other research suggests that goal attainment leads to increased well-being. This research integrates these two sets of research findings by investigating the effectiveness of one goal planning intervention, the SMART goal program, on goal attainment, and thus need satisfaction and well-being, in university students. An experimental design across a one-week period was employed to test whether participants in the experimental group, who received the SMART goal instructions, better obtained their goal in comparison to control group participants who did not receive those specific instructions. Findings indicated that the… More >

Preoperative Feeding in Single Ventricle Neonates is Predictive of Shorter Time to Goal Feed

    Alyssia Venna1, Kathleen Reid2, Sarah Davis2, Jiaxiang Gai3, Yves d’Udekem1, Sarah Clauss2,*

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.5, pp. 505-518, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.021571

Abstract Background: Patients with single ventricle anatomy are at increased risk of growth failure and malnutrition. Amongst cardiac centers, there is little standardization of feeding practices in this complex population. We hypothesized that initiation of our center’s preoperative feeding protocol would result in decreased gastrostomy tube (G-tube) use, decreased length of stay and would not result in increased Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) rates. Methods: A single institution review of 52 patients who had undergone stage I single ventricle palliative repair was performed. Patient diagnoses were hypoplastic left heart syndrome (39%), atrioventricular canal (15%), and other (46%). Postoperative parameters such as time to… More > Graphic Abstract

“Goals Give You Hope”: An Exploration of Goal Setting in Young People Experiencing Mental Health Challenges

Jamie Penno*, Sarah Hetrick, Grant Christie

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.5, pp. 771-781, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.020090

Abstract The mental health of New Zealand’s adolescents is, by global standards, remarkably poor. Addressing such mental health needs is not only pertinent with regards to the quality of life of our young people, but also the health of our society as a whole, with current unmet youth mental health needs becoming future adult population health deficits. While an array of evidence-based psychotherapies are available as treatment, our knowledge of the mechanism of actions underlying each of these is lacking. We propose that the practice of goal setting as a therapeutic technique may represent not only a common element across these… More >

Abstract Recently many algorithms for allocation of power approaches have been suggested to increase the Energy Efficiency (EE) and Spectral Efficiency (EE) in the Distributed Antenna System (DAS). In addition, the method of conservation developed for the allocation of power is challenging for the enhancement because of their high complication during estimation. With the intention of increasing the EE and SE, the optimization of allocation of power is done on the basis of capacity of the antenna. The main goal is for the optimization of the power allocation to improve the spectral and energy efficiency with the increased capacity of the… More >
