Nanohybrids synthesized by using chitosan as an encapsulating unit for polyoxometalates (POMs) and study of its biomedical applications is a fast-emerging field. In this research work, a lacunary polyoxometalate (α-K8SiW11O39) has been synthesized and then alkylsilane has been inserted into its lacunary position. It has been then reacted with 2-hydroxy-1-naphtaldehyde followed by copper metalation and finally encapsulated into chitosan by using the ionotropic gelation technique, in which the chitosan and the POM served as cation and anion, respectively. The bands in UV-Vis spectra at characteristic wavelength indicate that the organosilane is… More >

Abstract The Gannet Optimization Algorithm (GOA) and the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) demonstrate strong performance; however, there remains room for improvement in convergence and practical applications. This study introduces a hybrid optimization algorithm, named the adaptive inertia weight whale optimization algorithm and gannet optimization algorithm (AIWGOA), which addresses challenges in enhancing handwritten documents. The hybrid strategy integrates the strengths of both algorithms, significantly enhancing their capabilities, whereas the adaptive parameter strategy mitigates the need for manual parameter setting. By amalgamating the hybrid strategy and parameter-adaptive approach, the Gannet Optimization Algorithm was refined to yield the AIWGOA. Through a performance analysis of… More >

    Jongwook Si1, Sungyoung Kim2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.3, pp. 2893-2908, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.046081

Abstract In the context of high compression rates applied to Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) images through lossy compression techniques, image-blocking artifacts may manifest. This necessitates the restoration of the image to its original quality. The challenge lies in regenerating significantly compressed images into a state in which these become identifiable. Therefore, this study focuses on the restoration of JPEG images subjected to substantial degradation caused by maximum lossy compression using Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN). The generator in this network is based on the U-Net architecture. It features a new hourglass structure that preserves the characteristics of the deep layers. In… More >

    Perez Joan1, Fusco Giovanni1, Sadahiro Yukio2

    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 303-327, 2022, DOI:10.3166/RIG.31.303-327© 2022

Abstract This paper presents different methods implemented with the aim of studying urban dynamics at the building level. Building types are identified within a comprehensive vector-based building inventory, spanning over at least two time points. First, basic morphometric indicators are computed for each building: area, floor-area, number of neighbors, elongation, and convexity. Based on the availability of expert knowledge, different types of classification and clustering are performed: supervised tree-like classificatory model, expert-constrained k-means and combined SOM-HCA. A grid is superimposed on the test region of Osaka (Japan) and the number of building types per cell and for each period is computed,… More >

Abstract Bone metastasis secondary to breast cancer negatively impacts patient quality of life and survival. The treatment of bone metastases is challenging since many anticancer drugs are not effectively delivered to the bone to exert a therapeutic effect. To improve the treatment efficacy, we developed Pluronic P123 (P123)-based polymeric micelles dually decorated with alendronate (ALN) and cancer-specific phage protein DMPGTVLP (DP-8) for targeted drug delivery to breast cancer bone metastases. Doxorubicin (DOX) was selected as the anticancer drug and was encapsulated into the hydrophobic core of the micelles with a high drug loading capacity (3.44%). The DOX-loaded polymeric micelles were spherical,… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Because of the features involved with their varied kernels, differential operators relying on convolution formulations have been acknowledged as effective mathematical resources for modeling real-world issues. In this paper, we constructed a stochastic fractional framework of measles spreading mechanisms with dual medication immunization considering the exponential decay and Mittag-Leffler kernels. In this approach, the overall population was separated into five cohorts. Furthermore, the descriptive behavior of the system was investigated, including prerequisites for the positivity of solutions, invariant domain of the solution, presence and stability of equilibrium points, and sensitivity analysis. We included a stochastic element in every cohort and… More >
