An Artificial Intelligence-Based Framework for Fruits Disease Recognition Using Deep Learning

    Irfan Haider1, Muhammad Attique Khan1,*, Muhammad Nazir1, Taerang Kim2, Jae-Hyuk Cha2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 529-554, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.042080 - 19 March 2024

Abstract Fruit infections have an impact on both the yield and the quality of the crop. As a result, an automated recognition system for fruit leaf diseases is important. In artificial intelligence (AI) applications, especially in agriculture, deep learning shows promising disease detection and classification results. The recent AI-based techniques have a few challenges for fruit disease recognition, such as low-resolution images, small datasets for learning models, and irrelevant feature extraction. This work proposed a new fruit leaf leaf leaf disease recognition framework using deep learning features and improved pathfinder optimization. Three fruit types have been… More >

    Samra Rehman1, Muhammad Attique Khan1, Majed Alhaisoni2, Ammar Armghan3, Fayadh Alenezi3, Abdullah Alqahtani4, Khean Vesal5, Yunyoung Nam5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1179-1194, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035324 - 06 February 2023

Abstract Manual inspection of fruit diseases is a time-consuming and costly because it is based on naked-eye observation. The authors present computer vision techniques for detecting and classifying fruit leaf diseases. Examples of computer vision techniques are preprocessing original images for visualization of infected regions, feature extraction from raw or segmented images, feature fusion, feature selection, and classification. The following are the major challenges identified by researchers in the literature: (i) low-contrast infected regions extract irrelevant and redundant information, which misleads classification accuracy; (ii) irrelevant and redundant information may increase computational time and reduce the designed… More >

An Integrated Deep Learning Framework for Fruits Diseases Classification

    Abdul Majid1, Muhammad Attique Khan1, Majed Alhaisoni2, Muhammad Asfand E. yar3, Usman Tariq4, Nazar Hussain1, Yunyoung Nam5,*, Seifedine Kadry6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 1387-1402, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017701 - 03 November 2021

Abstract Agriculture has been an important research area in the field of image processing for the last five years. Diseases affect the quality and quantity of fruits, thereby disrupting the economy of a country. Many computerized techniques have been introduced for detecting and recognizing fruit diseases. However, some issues remain to be addressed, such as irrelevant features and the dimensionality of feature vectors, which increase the computational time of the system. Herein, we propose an integrated deep learning framework for classifying fruit diseases. We consider seven types of fruits, i.e., apple, cherry, blueberry, grapes, peach, citrus,… More >

A Cascaded Design of Best Features Selection for Fruit Diseases Recognition

    Faiz Ali Shah1, Muhammad Attique Khan2, Muhammad Sharif1, Usman Tariq3, Aimal Khan4, Seifedine Kadry5, Orawit Thinnukool6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1491-1507, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019490 - 07 September 2021

Abstract Fruit diseases seriously affect the production of the agricultural sector, which builds financial pressure on the country's economy. The manual inspection of fruit diseases is a chaotic process that is both time and cost-consuming since it involves an accurate manual inspection by an expert. Hence, it is essential that an automated computerised approach is developed to recognise fruit diseases based on leaf images. According to the literature, many automated methods have been developed for the recognition of fruit diseases at the early stage. However, these techniques still face some challenges, such as the similar symptoms… More >

Deep Learning-Based Classification of Fruit Diseases: An Application for Precision Agriculture

    Inzamam Mashood Nasir1, Asima Bibi2, Jamal Hussain Shah2, Muhammad Attique Khan1, Muhammad Sharif2, Khalid Iqbal3, Yunyoung Nam4, Seifedine Kadry5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1949-1962, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012945 - 26 November 2020

Abstract Agriculture is essential for the economy and plant disease must be minimized. Early recognition of problems is important, but the manual inspection is slow, error-prone, and has high manpower and time requirements. Artificial intelligence can be used to extract fruit color, shape, or texture data, thus aiding the detection of infections. Recently, the convolutional neural network (CNN) techniques show a massive success for image classification tasks. CNN extracts more detailed features and can work efficiently with large datasets. In this work, we used a combined deep neural network and contour feature-based approach to classify fruits… More >
