Effects of Forest Types on Soil Available Nutrients and Carbon Contents in Coastal Areas, China

    Zirui Chen1,2, Jiale Liu1,2, Haijun Sun1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.10, pp. 2557-2569, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.056868 - 30 October 2024

Abstract Clarifying the soil nutrient dynamics caused by forest type variations in the coastal region helps scientifically to apply fertilizer to forest plantations and enhance the carbon (C) sink capacity. Pure forests of Ligustrum and Metasequoia, as well as their mixed forests, in a coastal region of China were investigated by collecting 0–20 and 20–40 cm soil samples and analyzing their differences in bulk density, water content, pH, soil organic matter (SOM), ammonium (NH4+–N), nitrate (NO3–N) and total nitrogen (TN), available phosphorus (AP) and potassium (AK), microbial biomass C (MBC) and N (MBN), and enzyme activity. The results… More >

    Yueqiang Yu1, Tingang Ma1, Suling Wang1,*, Minzheng Jiang1, Yanling Guo2,3, Ting Jiang1,*, Shuaiqi Huang1, Ziming Zheng1, Bo Yan1, Jiyuan Lv1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.1, pp. 333-347, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022296 - 10 August 2022

Abstract A calculation model of stress field in laser additive manufacturing of walnut shell composite powder (walnut shell/Co-PES powder) was established. The DFLUX subroutine was used to implement the moveable application of a double ellipsoid heat source by considering the mechanical properties varying with temperature. The stress field was simulated by the sequential coupling method, and the experimental results were in good accordance with the simulation results. In addition, the distribution and variation of stress and strain field were obtained in the process of laser additive manufacturing of walnut shell composite powder. Influence of Different Forest Management Techniques on the Quality of Wood

    Olga Grigoreva1,*, Elena Runova2, Alexei Alyabyev3, Edward Hertz4, Anna Voronova5, Viktor Ivanov2, Svetlana Shadrina6, Igor Grigorev7

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.12, pp. 2175-2188, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.016387 - 22 June 2021

Abstract The issue of accelerated forestry plantation with high-quality wood using the best soils in terms of productivity, fertilizers, and intensive treatment has become quite relevant due to increased demand for forestry products and higher requirements for environmentally friendly use of forest resources. This paper presents the results of a study on the impact of various techniques for treating coniferous plantations, including thinning, fertilization, and herbicide processing, on wood quality key indicators. The paper examined the wood density, correlation of early and late wood zones, and the cell wall thickness for 38-year-old pine trees grown on… More >

Chinese Relation Extraction on Forestry Knowledge Graph Construction

Qi Yue, Xiang Li, Dan Li*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 423-442, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014448 - 08 March 2021

Abstract Forestry work has long been weak in data integration; its initial state will inevitably affect the forestry project development and decision-quality. Knowledge Graph (KG) can provide better abilities to organize, manage, and understand forestry knowledge. Relation Extraction (RE) is a crucial task of KG construction and information retrieval. Previous researches on relation extraction have proved the performance of using the attention mechanism. However, these methods focused on the representation of the entire sentence and ignored the loss of information. The lack of analysis of words and syntactic features contributes to sentences, especially in Chinese relation… More >

Prediction and Analysis of Post-Treatment of Sustainable Walnut Shell/Co-PES Parts by Laser Sintering

    Yueqiang Yu1, Suling Wang1,*, Minzheng Jiang1, Yanling Guo2,3, Ting Jiang1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.2, pp. 351-364, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.012885 - 15 December 2020

Abstract In order to enhance the strength of sustainable walnut shell/Co-PES (WSPC) sintered parts, wax-filtrated post-treatment was carried out. The effects of treating fluid temperature, preheating time and immersion time on the bending strength of WSPC wax-filtrated parts were analyzed by single factor analysis method. To obtain an accurate model for predicting the bending strength of the WSPC wax-filtrated part, the experiments were involved by using Box-Behnken design (BBD). Main parameters, such as treating fluid temperature, preheating time and immersion time, and their interactive effects were analyzed through analysis of variance (ANOVA) and graphical contours. Effects of water deficit on urban forest growth in a dryland South America region

    Martinez CF1, FA Roig2, JB Cavagnaro3, MA Cantón1, AM Di Blasi4

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.82, pp. 151-160, 2013, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2013.82.151

Abstract Urban forests located in dryland regions of Argentina are sustained mostly by groundwater and water coming from thawing in the Andes. This is because the most commonly planted tree species have high water requirements and are most often exposed to water shortage. This study assessed the effect of water deficit on diverse growth variables in saplings of Acacia visco (native tree species) and Morus alba (exotic tree species), two common tree species in the urban forests of Mendoza’s Metropolitan Area. Saplings were exposed to different levels of water deficit under controlled nursery conditions during three growing seasons.… More >
