A Novel Model for the Prediction of Liquid Film Thickness Distribution in Pipe Gas-Liquid Flows

    Yubo Wang1,2,*, Yanan Yu1,2, Qiming Wang3, Anxun Liu3

Abstract A model is proposed for liquid film profile prediction in gas-liquid two-phase flow, which is able to provide the film thickness along the circumferential direction and the pressure gradient in the flow direction. A two-fluid model is used to calculate both gas and liquid phases’ flow characteristics. The secondary flow occurring in the gas phase is taken into account and a sailing boat mechanism is introduced. Moreover, energy conservation is applied for obtaining the liquid film thickness distribution along the circumference. Liquid film thickness distribution is calculated accordingly for different cases; its values are compared More >

Abstract Conventional conductivity methods for measuring the void fraction in gas-liquid multiphase systems are typically affected by accuracy problems due to the presence of fluid flow and salinity. This study presents a novel approach for determining the void fraction based on a reciprocating dynamic conductivity probe used to measure the liquid film thickness under forced annular-flow conditions. The measurement system comprises a cyclone, a conductivity probe, a probe reciprocating device, and a data acquisition and processing system. This method ensures that the flow pattern is adjusted to a forced annular flow, thereby minimizing the influence of More >

Influence of Spray Gun Position and Orientation on Liquid Film Development along a Cylindrical Surface

Jiuxuan Liu, Yong Zeng*, Xueya Zhao, Hongbo Chen, Bin Yan, Qian Lu

    Abstract

A method combining computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and an analytical approach is proposed to develop a prediction model for the variable thickness of the spray-induced liquid film along the surface of a cylindrical workpiece. The numerical method relies on an Eulerian-Eulerian technique. Different cylinder diameters and positions and inclinations of the spray gun are considered and useful correlations for the thickness of the liquid film and its distribution are determined using various data fitting algorithms. Finally, the reliability of the proposed method is verified by means of experimental tests where the robot posture is changed. The

INFLUENCE OF CRITICAL PARAMETERS ON LIQUID THIN FILM FLOW OF CASSON NANO FLUID OVER ELONGATED SHEET UNDER THERMOPHOROSIS AND BROWNIAN MOTION

    N. Vijayaa,*, Sunil Babu Gb , Vellanki Lakshmi Nc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-8, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.23

Abstract Present investigation aims at scrutinizing the properties of heat and mass transfer phenomena of liquid thin film of Casson Nano fluid over elongated sheet under the influence of thermophorosis and Brownian motion. Casson Nano particle effect on thermophorotic force and on Brownian force is studied. Variables of similarity were induced to transmute partial differential equations into dimensionless equations and are resolved numerically by elegant method bvp 4c. Thin film thickness is calculated using MATHEMATICA for different values of critical parameters. Velocity profiles diminishes for higher values of Casson parameter and magnetic field parameter. The temperature More >

On the Modeling of Non-Classical Problems Involving Liquid Jets and Films and Related Heat Transfer Processes

    Ivan V. Kazachkov1,2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.5, pp. 491-507, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.06477

Abstract Non-classical subjects relating to the dynamics of jet and film flow and related heat transfer processes are considered. These problems, which are relevant to several technological applications, cannot completely be addressed in the frame of the canonical Navier-Stokes equations. The first example deals with the formation of a film flow as a result of the hydraulic shock of a vertical jet impinging on a horizontal plane. The effective thickness of the film resulting from the hydraulic shock is much less than the value obtained using the conventional approach (relying on the assumption of smooth flow),… More >

Liquid Spray Impact onto Flat and Rigid Walls: Formation and Spreading of Accumulated Wall Film

    Davood Kalantari1, Cameron Tropea2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 37-61, 2014, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2014.010.037

Abstract This study presents a combined experimental and theoretical investigation on the formation and spreading of a liquid film on a flat and rigid wall due to spray impact. A dual-mode phase Doppler instrument is used to characterise the spray while the average film thickness is measured using a high-speed CCD camera. The experimental results are complemented with theoretical expressions derived under the assumption that the spray is stationary. A new model for the prediction of the average wall film thickness is formulated taking into account the mean Reynolds number of the impacting drops, the flux More >
